Providence, Fri., Dec. 20, 8p, FOX

Comment was only thing they do WELL, not only thing they do, in reference to offensive rebounds and forcing turnovers. The stats bear that out. Offensive rebounding team ranks 12th, steals 27. As for 3 point shooting, 263rd of all Division 1 teams. So English just going by the stats. We score off forcing turnovers and offensive rebounding better than most teams.
Disagree that those are only two things we do well and it's unusual for an opposing coach to make that kind of comment about another team, especially one he will have to play again. We won the game last night because of those two things and because we played some hellishly good defense in the second half way beyond just forcing turnovers.

What he should have said without offending is that those are the 2 things they do best.

Good post. If we hit our free throws around a 70% clip as a team, we'll be fine. We're gonna get to the line; we just have to make our freebies. Defense will travel and there will be games in which we'll hit our share from the perimeter. It's gonna come down to making shots from the charity stripe more times than not with this group.
Agree. And same w the FTs as with threes- just be average. The three guys who will shoot the bulk of our FTs are Zuby, RJ and Kadary, so we're going to have very few 19-21 nights. Just don't suck like last night.

I slightly disagree about the overachieving part. I don't really think this is a team of guys who are playing up a level and that this is a "moneyball" NIL operation. They're guys with a strong pedigree who have shown they can compete with the best. Just because we aren't going to win games with a more finesse style doesn't mean that we're overachieving. If our identity is physicality, offensive rebounding, sturdy defense, than we'll be a top 15-20 team in the country because we're so talented and big.

But I completely agree with the bolded part. There will be a time when we aren't able to come back in a game since the other team simply has shooters that hits shots and/or, we can't keep up. We really need Scott/Wilcher/Luis to be more consistent shooters.
We need to play balls to the wall defense for 40 minutes every game dk. If we do that , we’ll be able to survive some bad shooting nights against most teams that aren’t UConn and Marquette. Bad shooting nights will happen but the intense defense should always be there and it hasn’t been especially in the first halves of these games. This is what is unacceptable to me. I can deal with everything else. But , when see the lack of effort on defense not boxing out etc. it annoys the hell out of me.

I completely agree. But if we do that, we’re probably winning 16 conference games, and it would barely be overachieving.

English led George Mason to nothing in the A10, and couldn’t sniff the NCAA tournament with Devin Carter. Including losing to a historically bad Georgetown team in the first round. Now he has a 7-6 team. This guy stepped into a program that was NCAA annually under Cooley and has it trending downward. If he was the SJU coach the “Is English the Guy” thread would be at 70 pages.
While Cooley might be short of being a legend , you don’t ever want to follow a popular Winning Coach as he was at PC .

Love Deivon but think this team goes nowhere without Zuby
Love both and they are emerging as two of the leaders. Really want Dev to continue to grab that role.

It was clear last year Daniss was that guy more than anyone and when it’s your PG/lead guard all the better. I think Dev has the personality to do it.

Amazing finish but quite similar to last year's game at Providence where we also scored 72 points but in that game Providence had one more 3 pointer on one more attempt and won by 3. This year we controlled the ball much better with only 6 t/o's versus 16 in prior season's game.

More like crapping! Was not our money player tonight.
Smith was the most important player in this game. Everyone else was a step slow.....especially on defense.
Speaking of crappy play, Scott not producing so Glover needs some of his minutes.
Glover will get eaten up on the defensive side of the ball. Scott will not
