St John's doesn't have talent to compete with better teams. We need more highly ranked players like AJ Storrs if want beat better teams on the schedule.

Just going by rankings from Rivals, Kansas used 8 players that received 4 stars. St. John's? One. Montez Mathis. The only players St. John's has that would be in the Kansas rotation would be Posh and  Champ, and likely off the bench for one if not both.

The transfer rules really hurts a program like St. John's. They can't reload every season like the usual suspects can.  I'm not surprised by the loss, but disappointed that our transfers all looked overmatched. The stats don't lie. I am happy for Champ, who looked like an all-american in that 6 minute or so second half run. Also happy for Dylan, who played with a lot of determination.  He really is fearless, and has room to improve. Posh is Posh-a unique type of player and point guard. Just not much from anyone else tonight.

Very, very disappointed and agree, with many, that subbing out Champ was a big mistake, I am a CMA supporter but he needed to read the room and understand that we had worked way to hard to get to a 3 point deficit. Call time outs if you need to get him rest.

Actually very impressive that Champ, Posh and Wusu triple handedly kept us within shouting distance. End result aside, these guys are warriors and need some help. Don’t know Pinzon’s recovery status but he should have gotten more minutes based on energy alone.

Talking about energy, think we need to take pulse of Smith and Coburn. First loose ball that Smith got to this year was late in game and is probably the reason why his time is limited. This kid has talent and needs to look in the mirror.

Wheeler needs the same talk-to that Moore got last year. At this point, assessment is that he is very soft and needs to reined in immediately

After 1st 2 games, i was amazed how a talent like Coburn fell into our lap. No longer amazed.

It will be better for everyone's sanity if no one mentions Wheeler's name again this season. He will provide next to nothing stats wise. He keeps demonstrating that.

How can Soriano be almost 7 ft tall, have a history, even if lower competition of being able to get rebounds and play 10 minutes and not get 1 rebound.

I was highly suspect of his ability to help this team on offense, but can't believe this guy can't find a way to even grab one rebound or any other form of defensive contribution?..

even Stanley and Nwiye were able to grab two boards each in same or less minutes.

Not ready to give up on Soriano just yet, because I swear I've seen him look not awkward near the rim with regard to footwork.

I think Smith will come around and give us something, but maybe not low double digits like some posters may have been hoping for.

At this point I'm really just assuming academic stress is affecting all aspects of Coburn's life. Unfortunately, he's on scholarship for an aspect of his life that we desperately need. /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Watched first half at home and then went to dinner with friends in from out of town. FYI Elios on 2nd Ave and 84th St, excellent! Anyhow, watched 2nd half and  looked at box score. Kids did, more or less, what I expected. Yeah, I hope scored would have been closer, but we hung with a much better team for as long as we could. Once again, we have 2 high level players and a bunch of mediocre role players. The front line showed what they were capable of against better comp. That won't change much. Soriano is ok, the others(Wheeler, Stanley, Nyiwe) are pretty much non factors at this level. We  have gaping holes, especially down low, and I don't see that changing over the course of the season. Still hoping we can string together enough Ws to dance, but less and less confident with each passing game.

Hopefully this ends up incredibly wrong, but it's as good an assessment as any so far.

Obviously, this was a miserable showing.  The team has a long way to go, but it's no use suggesting we burn it to the ground.

My biggest takeaways......

Sadly, we did not solve our size problem.  Kansas nearly doubled our rebound total (46-24) and pulled down an almost unheard of 18 offensive boards!

Without Wusu, we probably would have had some loooong scoring droughts.

Coburn seemed to take a lot of Steph Smith's minutes tonight.  That would not be my choice.

Hopefully Aaron Wheeler can find his game.  Right now, he is completely lost.

Omar Stanley is one of a very few bright spots.  Kid is going to help in conference play.

Lastly, I know this won't be popular, but give a little credit to Kansas' defense.  They were in our shirts all night.  Yes, we played like dirt, but the Jayhawks do D-up.

When one of our few bright spots is averaging 3 pts and 2 bds, against mostly cupcakes, you know we're in dire straights

Good article Jaden. With all due respect to CMA, I don't think it's about the team needing to gel, I thinks it's about the team really lacking talent. Can he get this team to overachieve like last years team did?  I have serious doubts.

Going to have to change the expression of a doubting Thomas to a doubting Monte based on your recent posts. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

Well, my Dad's name was Thomas and my son's name is Thomas, so there ya go

First I would like to meet the CEO who is at the arena. Thousands of people kept outside then 45 minutes before game time we had to rush thru doors to magnetometers.
second what do you expect from this team after we lost 7 or 8 players who left. I would still like to know the real reason for such an exodus. In return we got some experienced players but plabuts from low end programs. Siriano is a nice kid but he cant rebound or play against division one players. We get a lot of hype but that doesnt score points or defend.

For a team that was supposed to be know for their defense, I think the left it in Queens.

There is a reason Anderson was fired from his last job. Time to search for a new coach and send Anderson on his way. And why did 8 players jump the team last year? It's the COACHES !!!
