Christian Braun averages 13 points a game and Champ allowed him to score 31, that’s  +18. We lost by 20. Champ was tasked with guarding him all night. That and CMA’s ridiculous substitutions killed us. I expected our bigs to have trouble with McCormick but I did not expect Champ to shit the bed guarding Braun.

Christian Braun was a four star recruit so maybe it makes some sense.

Agreed Andrew, but Champ is supposed to be a pro and Braun was still only average 13-14 a game. You can’t get eaten alive like that. I’m sorry.

St John's doesn't have talent to compete with better teams. We need more highly ranked players like AJ Storrs if want beat better teams on the schedule.

Our big men aren’t any better then Yawke and Sima.  I should have included Amar as well.

I said my part in the game thread but to reiterate: you don’t mess with the rotation when you’re playing well and you definitely don’t sit your best player when he’s absolutely scorching. That is on the coach.

I know these newer guys aren’t stepping up as of yet, but the coach has to answer to what he was thinking there. For MY first time, I’m seriously questioning Anderson.

Totally agree but no chance we were going to win regardless

Maybe I’m just nuts, but down 3 with about 12 minutes left…why wouldn’t I think we have a chance?

It was obvious from the flow. Kansas was getting easy buckets and killing us on the boards.  We weren’t getting many stops.  There was no way Champ could have sustained that shooting.  To be clear, it was a horrible coaching decision but I think we still would have lost by double figures.

Our big guys have no handle cant shoot 3s and yet they are high screening...standing poised at the 3 point line and never in position to do damage....li don't understand why they don't stay on the baseline all the time going back and forth across the lane...wheeler the only big with skills is looking to take 3s all day and never battles for boards...we have guards that can penetrate but no help with big guys on the baseline...very tired...I give...

I'm pretty sure CMA got mind bended by Osmosis from Norm on the other bench because sitting Champ when he was hot was absolutely something Norm did all the time

It would drive me bonkers. It was like he didn't have a creative bone in his body and slavishly followed some weird coaching script from four decades earlier.

Funny...Coach doesn't think so eventhough the score trend proves it

Mike Anderson on taking Champagnie out:

“I don’t think the game turned. We had some poor execution on defense…they hit a couple wide-open threes, something we’d been covering. That’s what you can’t have. They scored 24 points on second shots, you can’t have that.” #sjubb

Any thoughts about UBS arena?
They need to do something about the concession lines.

Near where I sat (section 108), there was a mini mall style food court (about 3 or 4 different options, where to buy things - one stand for chicken, one for pizza, one for burgers, and maybe one more).  Expect, they were operating it as one big line, and only when you got close could you break it up, and go on the line at the stand you wanted to go through.  I tried to slip through and get on a line at a stand that wasn't too long, but they had a security guy right there to stop it (I didn't fight it. Found somewhere else with a longish line too, but at least that was a one-shot stand).

I'd like to see the stat line from the point he took him out for the next 10 minutes. Coach knows a lot more about hoops than me but it was obvious the moment he took him out we folded

I agree the defense was poor, but has this coach ever blamed the offense for a loss (or praised them for a win)?  Ever?  Does he even pay attention to that side of the ball?  Certainly doesn't seem like it.

I thought Jarvis and Norm were too obsessed with defense when they were coaching us, but this guy has them beat by a country mile.

Just got back, oh boy what a major disappointment.
1- Interior defense was/is laughably bad. We are once again too small upfront.
2- Team came out in a coma or was star struck. Immediate hole chased rest of the game.
3- Champ had invisible first half. Showed in the 2nd too little, too late. He doesn’t create his own shot.
4- Great crowd adds to the letdown. We need to consider at least one probably out of conference game on Long Island every year. I don’t want out of the Garden BUT we have a good alumni base there. I don’t love UBS, parking rip-off, gates opened 20 minutes late. Near riot outside. But, 1 game a year…should be doable.

Unfortunately, what’s broken on this team is hard to fix. Middle of the pack in the Big East, here we come. I had so much hope it just kills me to say it.
