I honestly think we miss the continuity more than anything. They’re still playing like guys who don’t know each other too well. Too much hero ball. I know everyone waxes poetically for these guys who left, and I get it to a certain extent, but those guys, really, didn’t win anything. They were just as frustrating most of the time as these guys have been.MainMan post=445128 said:I think…. now hear me out….. Totally agree. It wouldn’t have turned out well that way either.
NCJohnnie post=445140 said:Whether or not he should have left Champ in is a legit debate; all coaches make mistakes. But talking about firing CMA based on his body of work with SJU to date is simply nuts imho.
david cross post=445144 said:I like coach and think he has brought stability, but the results and actual performance has been dissapointing. This game was extremely depressing and the difference between plays and execution was not even close. We don’t have an offensive set that challenges defenses.
Maybe if we did Smith or Coburn would knock down some shots.
If we lost by 5 or 7 or 10 it would have felt a hell of a lot better to me than that debacle. Plus, I wouldn’t be questioning the coach’s sanity.newsman13 post=445138 said:RedStormNC post=445134 said:NCJohnnie post=445132 said:I would no longer root for St. John's if they brought in a sleazebag like Pitino, which they won't. Maybe we've forgotten CMA was coach of the year in our conference. Really kind of silly to talk about firing him when he hasn't lost a game we were favored in this year. If he doesn't make the dance, time to put him on the hot seat, just a tad premature right now imho.
Not premature to question the talent upgrade from last year though...
He lost at home by ~ 20...when we blew a run that got us within 3.
So if he let the starters in and they got beat because they ran out of gas...what would everyone say?

Champ is a big question.not a strong rebounder ,and his games has not lived up to his rep Don’t see him making the NBA ,he could have been the guy to put the team on his back and have a great game to help pull a win out what am I saying I don’t know just really disappointed.I can only hope we can pull out some wins in confr for consideration to get to the NCAA
Seems like as fans we are always in this position early in the season
Champ couldn’t guard Christian Braun tonight, how’s he going to guard anyone in the NBA???
otis post=445155 said:Be truthful .... are you really surprised that St. John's get blitz tonight ?
I have come to anticipate disappointment as a St. John's fan.
Not really but to give up 33 points in the last ten minutes was horrendous.
Except he said it before Anderson was contacted.Andrew post=445124 said:Maybe Repole was onto something when describing our coaching search.
Mean Gene post=445158 said:Christian Braun averages 13 points a game and Champ allowed him to score 31, that’s +18. We lost by 20. Champ was tasked with guarding him all night. That and CMA’s ridiculous substitutions killed us. I expected our bigs to have trouble with McCormick but I did not expect Champ to shit the bed guarding Braun.
Christian Braun was a four star recruit so maybe it makes some sense.
