It’s weird to me, he’s got good fundamentals, he works his ass off, seems like a really good teammate and you can tell he’s trying to be a leader and a motivator out there but I have not been impressed with his smarts. 13 games with a brand new team is not the end of the story though of course, so we will see.
This is the video attached to every article on the game I've seen so far, with no mention of the "inadvertent whistle". If it wasn't for that damn ref every article would have a video of LJF saving the game.
It’s a photo of that last possession, not the video. The point I was making was that even after the refs screwed us, if we had done our job on D we still would have won the game. But we didn’t. So yes the refs screwed us, and yes we played like garbage for the last 8 minutes and handed the game to SH.

Some people also don't know what Keita will even actually bring to the table. He hardly played during his one season with the Gamecocks, so one can't even talk about his play at South Carolina. He also has a propensity to float around the perimeter on offense based on his high school highlights.

I know there's a very, small sample so far with him in a Johnnies uniform. During his limited duty, we know he can foul (he fouled out in 10 minutes of action in Game 1). All any of us know at the moment is he'll bring added depth.

Time will tell what he truly can bring to the table.
His height and 5 fouls alone will help. Woulda kept Clark in etc. I still think he’s probably a pretty talented kid. Just didn’t have a chance to show it this far.
That's all we know about him right now.... He'll be depth and 5 extra fouls.

He could very well be a talented player (he was top 100 player, so supposedly he has talent), but he was planted on the bench at South Carolina. I hope he shows out for us, but the only thing he did was foul in his limited action.

Again, time will tell what he brings to the table.

1. Played a very good first half

2. With 10 minutes left in the game, we stopped doing everything that got us the lead.

The Call
1. The clock did start
2. They adjusted the inbound spot, as if a play occurred
3. They allowed a substitution, as if a play occurred

It seems like the most prevalent explanation is an inadvertent (too quick) whistle. If that's accurate, the rules indicate that, if no team had control of the ball at the time of the whistle, refs should default to the possession arrow. This is the call that should have been made.

I do not like the official explanations (from Stu and refs). Seems like a cover up. Shame on them.

As Class of 72 and others have noted, there are coaches with strong knowledge of the rule book who may have made a difference here.

Stu Jackson's statement that it was a "timing issue" is insulting. That's just false.

Anyone know if Fun still writes those post game articles on that blog? I could sure use some of Fun’s wit right about now.

As I was freaking the fuck out the whole ride home I cant help but think this is one of the top 3 worst games ( as far as being angry ) in my years of SJU fandom
Don’t put the opponent in the double bonus with 9 minutes to go. Make your FT’s down the stretch. You win this game.
Seton Hall also missed 3 FTs down the stretch, so that probably evened out, IMO.

Contrary to popular belief few teams play 40 minutes of perfect basketball, usually 30 plus minutes of better basketball during an official game is enough to get a W

In hotel room next to Prudential Ctr and can't sleep and need to drive home six hours from now.. So brutal.

Nothing more to say on botched call, but I just can't get over getting manhandled in last 8 or 9 minutes. We did not play 40 good minutes.

Ponds trying to be ultimate disher is going to cost us. Then he tries flipping the narrative to be hero and botches it. Bad shots..Dont need him playing for scouts.

Williams needs more minutes over Trimble. Ponds and Heron for 37-38 minutes is too much.

PS - watching Simon in person in warmups at this game and Sacred Heart games. Never saw such odd sideways ball rotation. He twists the ball upon release. It's really strange. Least of our problems, I know.

Three straight years of losing basketball coached by his idol drove Fun into retirement for good. He lives on as FOAD in the formerly informative Johnny Jungle. Of course if it weren't for 5 or 6 redmen.com posters there it too would fold like a cheap tent as no one there says anything that wasn't posted on redmen.com already.
To Fun's credit, his last blog dolled out grades to players and coaches and I agreed 100% with his analyses.
Although he gave Ponds an A he pointed out his lack of fire in key games and his tendency to take bad 3 point shots along with turning the ball over too much. Tonight Ponds validated Fun's opinion. Fun also correctly noted, unlike my friend Marillac, that Marvin is not the power player we had hoped for and that he fouls way too much for an important player who needs to be on the court. As we saw tonight Fun was right in the Clark opinion.
What made Fun's critiques so amusing was his merciless evaluation of the coaches. His best years were in defaming Steve Lavin. The arrival of the $2 million coaching apprentice should have had Fun foaming at the mouth but alas he could not take the same hard position with our greatest player. His final grade for Mullin last season was a C+ but we all know had it been any other Joe Schmo coach it would have been a D.
So, to answer your question, the Dead Storm is DEAD and I doubt he even is registered to post here any longer.
You should be asking about another poster who would have made a loss like tonight's fun reading and that man is Mike Zaun. While not as eloquently profane as Fun, Mike would have honestly given an non Homer review.

True (team shot 83% 15-18). Although i expect our best player to knock them down. IMO

There were a few times last year, where he missed close free throws late. This is becoming a problem with him.

I know he has the heart to turn that around. I'm just wondering if he has the head, and the legs (since I think fatigue was a factor).

Damn, apparently the guy who hit the winner was an illegal sub and came in while they reviewed the “clock”

Seeing Willard celebrate the winner made me cringe. But I have to respect the guy. A lot of people thought he wasn’t gonna succeed at SH.

He also said we are the best team they faced all year

You want to hate the refs even more? They gave Seton Hall a gift three points late in the first half, when they granted continuation (which is not allowed in the college game) on a foul call. That's 3 points Seton Hall got, in a game they eventually won by 2.

Travesty, IMO.

Yes the last 10 minutes was bad basketball. Yes our guys took bad 3 after bad 3. That put SH in position to steal a win on our poor play.

But, the block by LJ slammed the door on their 1st try to pull out a win, which was a big time play by itself.

It gave the Hall 3.9 seconds to run a play to get a good look, which is what they eventually got with a kick out to end the game. I really thought without a kick out they make a short shot or we foul.

No matter how we played over the last minutes of the game, no matter what you say about coaching, LJ made 2 plays in the sequence in question that together make them one of the best defensive plays in our history to end a game. Quick hands to deflect the ball was one thing, but what followed was cat like quickness to follow the ball, great presence of mind to keep his feet in bounds. And incredible composure and court sense to tap the ball with purpose to a wide open Heron. Amazing game saver, and ESPN top ten play without the whistle

I thought the ref blew the whistle to call a foul on the contact. His arm went up to signal foul , his eyes were on figgy as he brushed a SH player, but did not foul. In a normal circumstance if he anticipated that figgy stepped out he would have run to the spot, pointed to where he thought he had stepped out, and made that call. Instead I believe he was ready to call foul, realized there was none, and sought the closest ref for help. I think the 2nd ref confirmed no foul and that figgy was in bounds.

The only thing I could think of was that at the point the whistle was blown lj was mid air without clear possession so they gave it back to SH.

Total irony is that for that entire sequence LJ was in complete control of his body, and had just executed one if the best end of game defensive plays you will ever see.

The rest is a joke. Yes, our defense on SH 's final possession was crap, and even if the ball didnt go in, odds are they would make at least 2 of bv 3 fts.

The joke of it was they added .4 seconds even though the ball appeared to drop in a millisecond before the buzzer.

I don't buy pinning the loss on our poor play over the last minutes. We were in a position to win, Figueroa came up huge, and we were robbed by inept refs

I had trouble falling asleep last night I can not recall the last time I was so pissed off over a loss. Yes we played poorly down the stretch and after 45 first half points only scored 29 in the 2nd, and yes Ponds was terrible but we were flat out robbed last night. What angers me is all the recaps you read don’t even mention that BS call like that play never happened. LJ made a tremendous play Heron would have run down the court and ran the clock out and we win. What’s the point of reviewing a play if you can’t reverse an obvious major blunder and then to make matters worse the guy that hits the shot was an illegal substitution and even if he had missed it they actually had the nerve to call a foul on that play after they had to know from watching the replay it should have been our ball unless we mauled someone I’d say we at least deserved some latitude on defense . I don’t know why that idiot blew the whistle the play was right in front of him and LJ wasn’t even close to being out of bounds but at the very least should have been jump ball and we had the arrow. Hopefully this BS loss fires them up for Tuesday can not start out 0-2 after the way last year went!
