A game from hell, and i missed it--not televised on the Big Island. Kept checking my phone, then that was jinxed, so i relied on my laptop. That was also cursed.
Praying the team comes out for revenge against Marquette.
Let's go St. John's!

“To clarify on the final inbounds play by Seton Hall. St. John’s was about to steal the ball when the official ruled the play dead. On Inadvertent whistle, if there is no possession by either team, it goes to the “possession arrow.” I believe St. John’s had the arrow.”
So what you are saying is that it is even worse than I imagined as the rules were not applied correctly. Great. Officials don't know the rules.
Correct in that these incompetent refs didn't know what the fck they were doing but our staff obviously didn't have a clue either. Thus none of our coaches had the tools to vigorously challenge the call. This is yet another reason that the AD MUST push for adding an experienced COLLEGE assistant to this staff. Mitch must return to special advisor role.
This is a good point. SJU staff was WAY too passive while this was incorrectly sorted out.
The team did not blow the game. What did everyone think? Seton Hall would lay down on their home court in the Big east opener against an undefeated rival? The team was exhausted, primarily because of what everyone should have seen all along. No size, and the one guy we have with size and bulk doesn't rebound. Fighting bigger bodies wiped out the legs of the starters. Still, they battled back and deserved the win. The Heron and Ponds miss were the only 2 of the night. We were killed on the offensive glass, giving up 15 rebounds to a team that doesn't rebound. This team has talent, but was let down by a staff that couldn't find a big, serviceable body in 4 years.
We do have a big serviceable body who is injured and unable to play
If Heron hadn't become available late in the spring, we would have had another one
It's hard to pass on a player as talented as Heron so I don't blame the staff for that decision

Two back to back offensive foul, charge call on a 5 on 4 fast break and an offensive foul on a hand offf didn’t help . Four crucial missed opportunities and in my opinion, undisciplined fouls on our part by two somewhat seasoned players!

At least Fraschilla didn't pull any punches and pointed out the obvious error.
Unfortunately, he softened up after that.

Exactly why his honesty surprised me. Hey, I get mistakes are made (ie the inadvertent whistle). As I understand it now, based on FF's explanation the result should have been ball to SJU via possession arrow. Having plenty of time to discuss and not knowing rules is unforgivable and different than human error.

Why was the 3rd official left out of the discussion on the last call. I hope the league suspends these guys if they misinterpreted the rules.

With all due respect to my New Jersey friends in the board the stench of the air leaviint pru to the GWB is almost as bad as the stench of the refs shit job

They weren't passive! They were clueless! There are no college coaches on this team with the knowledge to argue the obvious. This would have not been called with a coach K, Jim B or any other respected college coach. Fraschilla caught it immediately.

He was too busy yucking it up with CM. Might have been more useful if he actually knew the rules himself and maybe added to the comedy of errors.
So inadvertent whistle go to possession arrow?
It would be if that was the call, but I don't think it was an inadvertent whistle. I think they called LJ for being out of bounds, when he was not.

Injured? Give me a break. He has no heart, there is a difference. He wasn't injured enough to miss pregame shootaround or to dance around on the sidelines. He'll be on the court against Marquette in less than 48 hours.
I think I was so furious at our guys for the previous 8 minutes, that what the refs did to us at the end almost seemed secondary to me. We didn’t deserve to win.
That sounds similar to my thinking as well.

That is an inadvertent whistle. You can't just guess what will happen.

Ugh. Gave that to them. Then that’s bs what the refs did at the end.
\

Yes the refs blew the call terrible by the refs. However, that game was lost by coaching. WE did not have any offense until we ran the play for Clark on the 3 and isolated Heron on the elbow. From the 6min mark till the Clark 3 our offense was pathetic. Kids where never put in a position to succeed. This game falls on coaching.
When Pro style offense stagnates you need to run something, anything to get them back in sync...credit to Willard...he doubled Ponds with the big guy every time he tried to drive and then threw that 1-3-1 at us.

My take prior to game was if we played defense and avoided foul trouble we would win. We didn’t avoid foul trouble and it hurt. Clark, in particular, had 3 very stupid fouls- Lowering shoulder on drive, trying to block a shot when you have 3 fouls and setting a hard screen when you have 4 fouls - all of which are macho moves.

Shame. We were the better team and in total control for 90% of the game. Hopefully some lessons learned.
