(POST-GAME) Seton Hall (MSG), Sat. Feb. 23, 8p, FS-1 / Sirius XM

Great team effort but the story is Ponds snapping out of his slump and coming up with big basket after big basket to stop their momentum.

Keita giving us 6 points and 4 rebounds was huge. We’re not asking much here...if he can continue that production and be a mediocre rim protector we can really make some noise.

It was great seeing everyone. Once you meet and talk to members of Redmen.com, you feel their passion for St. Johns basketball. Just hope we are still this happy after Thursday's game. Let's go Redmen!!!

Fun night, great atmosphere and seeing Weatherman, OLV, some other 114 folks, Moose, JMattera, Panther was a plus! On to Xavier!

Loved seeing us use all of our freshmen!! Roberts, Williams, Trimble, Earlington all got good minutes and all looked good enough to give us some good minutes and rest. Greg Williams has a lot of nice skills. Big, athletic guard who can really elevate and has some good instincts, even played a little PG. Mullin has to use these guys is there is any chance of us moving on. Even Earlington did some nice things which I’ll have to say surprised me. Keita was much more aggressive out there which I liked as well. Positive overall game.

Just a great win. Must say I wasn't optimistic when I heard Heron wasn't playing but the kids came out on fire especially on defense.
Ponds & Clark (16-28 between them) both had the slump breaking game we were all hoping for. Also great minutes from the bench, especially Keita, Williams & Earlington (10 blocks between them). That can only make us stronger down the stretch. Keita has shown decent shooting touch from mid range.

Admittedly not too crazy about Keita, but he certainly made plays at opportune times last night on both ends of court. Earlington is great kid and happy he had such a solid outing in the bright lights, something he will always remember.

Maher, keep wearing your stinky clothing.
Maher needs to up his game - no showering until April 9th, and we’ll be cutting down nets!
Nathalie says thats not happening :)

Was watching Earlington on defense last night. SH bigs had no luck trying to muscle him in close. Nice to see a BATTLESHIP out there for us for a change.

Glad to finally get to meet the Red Mafia at the Garden. Great group that live and die with each bounce of the ball.

Last night was another display of great fan support and participation. I know there have been other past years when demand for tickets was greater but those years were when SJU were rated much higher in the preseason.
The fan support this season appears to have risen substantially without a great pre season ranking. Whatever the reason it is great.

Wtf?!
It was like no other game this season, way to much to explain, Heron out again with the knee.
Really? I felt like I’ve seen this game five times already.
Respectively disagree, got a triple double off the bench in a meaningful game, Williams, Keita and Earlington, had 11 points, 11 boards and 10 blocks and missing our second best player and won, so yes like no other game we've seen all year! Thanks Tommy O

Sharif Fordham and Mo Diakite in house last night;

Could be another Brust. Wouldn't that be nice.

Game to game it is hard for me to predict how this team will perform. I headed into this game with trepidation and then when I arrived at the Garden and heard Heron was not playing I was extremely concerned about our prospects of winning.

Then the game started and we burst out of the gate and went up 28 to 5. Most importantly Shamorie was playing really well, Clark was hitting threes and not accumulating fouls and Simon was shutting down Powell with stifling defense. Additionally Seton Hall was turning the ball over at an alarming rate and could not hit a three pointer. From there they changed defenses and went to a zone press and tried to work their way back in as they had in the first matchup.

The surprising difference last night from the first matchup was the effective use of players who had not been contributing all that much previously. It was one of the big reasons we did not run out of gas, were able to rebuff their late run and seal the deal.

Sedee Keita was hurt and did not play on December 29th but was absolutely terrific last night. He battled on the interior strongly (blocked 4 shots), defended the perimeter on switches really well, made a couple of open shots, grabbed some big rebounds, made great decisions with the ball and did not accumulate fouls at all in 25 valuable minutes. I think with a year of rust from sitting out and the early season knee injury slowing his progress we had not gotten to see the best of him yet. If last night is any indication there will be some really significant upside moments to look forward to from him in the future.

Marcellus Earlington was also a presence in eleven effective minutes. He blocked three shots and defended really well, grabbed a couple of rebounds, showed strength on the interior, displayed Big East level of athleticism and skill and fit right in to the team concept and flow. It is refreshing to watch him finally emerge from being glued to the pine to getting meaningful court time and validating his abilities to be a rotation contributor here now and in the future.

Lastly Greg Williams Jr. was really good. He displayed a very high level of athleticism, blocked three shots, handled the ball well and played the best defense he has all season during sixteen significant minutes of court time. Williams is another who has a big upside and will hopefully be a presence in the program for years to come. He has shown flashes previously, but I thought last night was his best sustained moments on the floor this season.

Hopefully the bench's contributions will give the coach more confidence to call on them down the road, so that they can help us to finish off the season in style.
I'm very happy with the win just like everyone else. However not to be Debbie downer, but our horrendous rebounding trend continues. We allowed 17 offensive rebounds and were outrebounded overall 41-27. It's a bad sign for our upcoming 3 games....
Would be interesting to see what our +/- was here when Keita and Earlington were on the floor together yesterday
