(POST-GAME) Seton Hall (MSG), Sat. Feb. 23, 8p, FS-1 / Sirius XM
Loved seeing us use all of our freshmen!! Roberts, Williams, Trimble, Earlington all got good minutes and all looked good enough to give us some good minutes and rest. Greg Williams has a lot of nice skills. Big, athletic guard who can really elevate and has some good instincts, even played a little PG. Mullin has to use these guys is there is any chance of us moving on. Even Earlington did some nice things which I’ll have to say surprised me. Keita was much more aggressive out there which I liked as well. Positive overall game.
Each of the 3 Amigos acquitted themselves well. GW played excellent defense. ME grabbed boards and doesn’t get rattled. JR showed post moves...he got blocked twice by a 7’2” center but demonstrated a willingness and ability to play with back to basket.

I know that Heron’s absence dictated some changes but certainly not the sole reason for the Amigos PT. Wonder if CM is thinking that we need their fouls and energy as part of a strategy to press and speed up teams that will, otherwise, try to leverage their size advantage.

Boy can Williams sky. Not sure yet if he has any touch shooting wise but certainly can slash to the basket.
Still confused as to why guys like Earlington and Roberts didn't get to perform earlier in season.
Enough already with our technical fouls. As the Hall climbed closer to us at the end I couldn't help feeling that Trimble's tech was going to bite us in the a...
Thought Figueroa had a mediocre game, bailed out however by Ponds and Clark.
Don't like hearing Heron's knee injury is chronic.
We take out Xavier on Thursday.
Think Mullin sent Fig a message when he obviously got out of control
What a fabulous and satisfying team win. Our bench came alive and we beat the Hall without Mustapha.
This game proved a couple things: 1) We’re a much better team than SH and a much better team when we can rely on a deeper bench.
That might be the most important takeaway from y’days victory.
If our bench can sustain that level of contribution the rest of the way, watch out for St. John’s.
Keita really impressed me y’day. He played very well and was very mobile. Got to think we sold the guy short, he has healed from his knee injury and perhaps the best is yet to come.
GW Jr. oozes with athleticism and grit, and Earlington is proving he belongs in the Big East and will be a solid contributor in the future.
And lastly, it was very satisfying to beat the Hall—finally!
But, I came away from the game with a deep respect for the grit of their players and how well coached they are.
Powell is a warrior as is Ponds.
Great game!
Thank you St. John’s!
I know they hate us and get why. But, fwiw, I like them and root for them, above all other BE teams, as long as it doesn’t impact us.

Had to work last night and just had the opportunity to watch the game. Knew the final score, but was still nervous when SH cut it to 6 near the end. Great game from start to finish. We live and die with our outside shooting. When we’re on, it hugely effects every aspect of our game. Having said that, we stayed the course last night even when our shot wasn’t falling. We played hard for 40 minutes. Something we haven’t done much all year. Great use of the bench by the staff, and amazing contributions by all of them, especially on D. In particular, huge contribution by Keita and a special nod to Earlington for his efforts. As always with this team, it’s one game at a time. But no doubt, some very encouraging signs in yesterday’s game not the least of which was Shamorie being back to his old self.

At one point LJ went into locker room. Then PT was sporadic after that

Seton Hall’s forum is a great read right now. Willard, Powell, McKnight, Mamu all getting ripped by their fans.
They are really in shambles over there. But I’m not gonna mock them, because I’m sure this site is a “great read” for opposing fans after every loss.
Just change the names and most fan forums are the same. Everyone would play better than the players and know more than the coaches.

Good point. I noticed that. Figured it was a bathroom break. Lol

The first 10 minutes should be saved as a highlight reel to show recruits. That was probably the best quarter that we've played all season. Loved seeing the freshmen contribute. If they get rotated and spotted a few minutes here and there sandwiched around media time outs, they can give our starters a quick blow and keep them fresh for the final push.

Don't mean to be a downer after an important win but I didn't like our strategy on offense down the stretch. Our team is just not good when we become stagnant on offense. We went into a "prevent offense" way too soon for my taste. Having Shamorie dribble the shot clock down and someone throw up a Hail Mary just doesn't work for me. We were fortunate to get the fast break leak out, etc and things worked out fine but I wouldn't have gone into a shell quite so soon.

Congrats to the team and coaching staff for reaching the 20 win milestone. I'm hoping we reach at least 25 before the season is over!!

I was waiting for all the "Mike Zaun goes MIA when the team wins" posts, but the truth is I was up in the Catskills on vacation so my reception was almost nonexistent! I kept checking my phone to no avail and then the WiFi was finally strong enough to load the final score and stats. Very happy we paid our red-headed step sisters back. MSG is our home and we are New York's Team. I saw at one point we were up 28-5...jeez! I won't get too greedy since we just got a very solid win, but it's concerning that we let teams back in even when up 20+ at times. We seem to go into longer lapses offensively than any team in the conference I've seen, but of course maybe I'm just biased since I watch us way more.

I didn't watch the game but if I had to guess, we probably got happy chucking and expected jumpers to keep falling and eventually stopped while refusing to drive. Great to see Marv show out on senior night and glad to see Roberts and Williams getting some time. I can't believe how immature Seton Hall's official Twitter was calling out St. John's directly. Yes SHU has had some good years lately, but they're a second rate program in every way except conference affiliation. Delgado also called St. John's his "kids" saying he dominated us in his time. Angel, you're a good player, but we never had any real bigs to challenge you. Nice job dominating us as we were rebuilding. Here's your cookie! Ponds fired back which was nice to see (by the way welcome back Ponds!). No one can do it like we do being the only true NYC major program in the nation. Having a large alum base in the NYC area doesn't make you NY's Team. We are in the very bedrock of NYC.

Looking toward Xavier, I know we don't matchup well, but I don't think they're that good. I watched them earlier in the season and they looked horrid and had like 6 straight turnovers. They didn't have any crafty moves at the hoop...they just made a bee-line straight to it which resulted in tons of blocks for opponents. Maybe they've gotten a lot better since then. Still, X is a very young team with much less talent than previous years and a new coach in his first year. We could put up a dud and come out ice cold and indifferent like we usually do after big wins or we can finally take advantage of a severely less talented opponent. It's not always matchups that decide games...PC got blown out by everyone but us. They are not a good team. We need to stop making bad teams look good. Congrats to Mullin on his first 20 win season...let's keep it going!
