Again, I touched on it before, and said it in the game thread. This was the perfect game for Soriano. He was thriving on both sides of the court, he was constantly bodying his defender. The ball should have been put down to him. Every. Single. Play.

You can blame the players for that, but as a coach…it’s your damn job to see a mismatch and EXPLOIT it. That’s your job. Tell your guards to get him the ball.

That’s the game there. Talk about Champ. Talk about missed free throws. Talk about not doing a man/man press at the end (also on coach). Talk about not calling a play in a half court offense most of the game (also on coach).

If we go through Soriano, this is a double-digit lead and builds his confidence moving forward. Instead you just sit there and let them do isos and weaves 20-something feet from the basket. Unbelievable.

I don’t see it.  Soriano had one of his better games today but he’s a below average Big East interior player.  Aside from being slow and unatjeletic, he has essentially one post move

They weren’t playing a BE team. They were playing a 3-7 team. He was playing the best I’ve see him play. Was getting the ball in the post no problem (when they bothered with that kind of stuff) and was feeling it defensively as well. The coach needs to recognize a weakness and exploit it. I don’t know how “you didn’t see it,” it was plain as day to me.
Agree that he's a below average Big East player, but also agree with you that he could have and should have been used more often and more effectively today.

When you score 22 damn points or whatever in the second half in your home court against a crap team ummm that’s on a lot more than toughness

This game left me with the same feeling I had when SJU lost to St Francis on the night they changed Alumni Hall to CA with so many SJU ex players in attendance. It was embarrassing. You could look over at Norm and just know it wasn’t going to end well.
At MSG vs a very bad so called major going thru turmoil. There were no more than two players from both teams that appear to be div one players. The only reason to play the rest of the season is to play the freshmen and sophs who may show some improvement. To give any minutes to Wheeler or Smith is a waste of time. This team is not going anywhere.

Hey Mike - maybe you should answer why your players are playing soft.. or the players you brought in don't have it in them to be tough.

A little accountability on the part of the coach for poor defensive strategy especially on the very last play of the game, lack of plays, poor substitutions, not going with the hot hand, bringing in the entire team as they are all of his recruits , the mass exodus last year of seasoned and experienced players, Wheeler once again thinking he is a 3 point shooter and playing a mile from the basket, Mathis playing soft , as can be seen the list of coaching deficiencies is long , would be nice on his part. My respect for him would certainly increase if he would shoulder a little of the burden but I am not sure that is in him.
why the hell he was ever extended without a post season invite is beyond comprehension. It reminds me of little league ball today where every kid gets a reward just for participating and showing up. Is that what SJU has become ?

Maybe you didn't hear RMN, he was extended so that recruits wouldn't think he was a lame duck coach(even though his original contract was nowhere near expiring), so that he could bring in a higher level of talent. Haven't you noticed how many top recruits we've gotten in the mix with since the extension/raise  was given out?

He keeps saying we need to be tougher, but is he explaining to them what he wants? Some guys just interpret that as being more physical.  Some guys interpret that as getting down the court faster.  The first thing I'd do, if someone told me that, was ask for specific examples, in a respectful manner, of course.  Then, when you tell me specifically what you didn't like, I'll know, and try to correct it.  I'm sure he doesn't want to get into specifics through the media, but if he's not being specific with the individual players one-to-one, they may not know what he's looking for.

Players need to take a good, long look in the mirror and decide what they want to get out of this team and this season.
Another post where you only blame the players and let Anderson off the hook.

The coach is a bigger problem than the players.
Was Anderson perfect today? Not at all.   But last time I checked, Anderson wasn't the one who shot 50% from the free throw line.  Anderson wasn't the one committing fouls 50 feet away from the basket.   Anderson isn't the one that makes the same type of turnovers game after game. Anderson isn't the one that has started games with 0 to no intensity or excitement, which unfortunately, has been a common theme this season.

And when the game is on the line, and you need one defensive stop to get to OT, and you can't do it. Yea, that is on the players.

So yea, while Anderson has his flaws, this absolutely goes more on the players than in does on coaching

Anderson coaches the players that are part of the team that he assembled, and the team is downright abysmal in nearly every aspect.

The coach must stand first in the mea culpa line.

Plus 1 million this is what I’ve said the 2 hours worst loss since st Francis

I should have said lol but someone said you can say anything after this game so I did but you never have a sense of humor
but perhaps you can tell me all the good  things we did  in this game .  I realized champ  was not playing but it was still bad
But I know we could have a diff of bad but most posts were not positive .On to our next game hope it is better

Bama, dont I feel bad,my wife disagrees  with most things I say .So  I do not take anything personal. However, I usually agree with most of your posts

Don’t know what else to say.

One of the most boring 2 point games I can recall. Very low energy effort on part of players and staff.

Sat there dismayed the entire game knowing that this was going to come down to the end and fearful that our defense would let us down (assumed it would be a last second foul shot).

Not sure if it is a point of emphasis but forcing guys East-West to kill clock is Bball 101. Dunn would have turned that guy 3 times.

Once again, we’ve dug a hole…last years turnaround is evidence that you can turn things around. However, I am concerned that a number of these guys, like Wheeler, Smith, Coburn et al are at their ceiling. As a result, a turnaround will require major changes. At minimum…

- Wheeler being told to play foul line in and don’t ever take another 3.
- Switching by bigs has to end. Soriano’s switching is a major reason why we fall into these trading basket jags.
- Team needs an edge that it had last year. They fell in love with the preseason kudos and need a dose of reality.

You made 2 consecutive posts and the second one was simply "so right" so I was just joking with you that you were agreeing with yourself hence the winking emoji. As with the refs today in regards to us taking the ball to the basket: "No harm no foul" (maybe should have quit while I was ahead because now I risk you thinking I insulted you again) LOL/media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png
