(POST-GAME) @Georgetown (CAP ONE), Sat. Jan. 5, 1p, CBS / 570AM

Anybody else cringe when LJ saved that ball from going out of bounds in the first half, expecting a whistle?

Really proud of the team, this isn't even a close game had Keita not been available, his stat line shows virtual nothing but we all know how huge he was.

One issue I did have, and it needs to be corrected, was the lack of switching on defense once the ball didn't go inside. Several times Clark and Keita ended up high, that's fine, but if the ball then moves to the other side, they need to take advantage and switch back while they can.

Favorite play of the game, amongst many, was Williams' baseline drive/dunk, really enjoying watching him develop.

Random observation - Happy to have him, but Heron needs to get off early to avoid pressing. Watching Shamorie, he knows that and plays accordingly.

I've been thinking the same lately.

Hey Dink, you popped in my head all game, knowing your Hoya dislike. A lot of ups & downs today man! Good for you in the end!
Thrilled with the win, but up 96-90 with :57 seconds left, coming out of a timeout, how do we have Simon as the primary ball handler. A possession or two before that, he holds the ball too long causing a shot clock violation. Ponds has to have the ball in his hands. We stole this game but I hope we learn moving forward
The Hoyas were overplaying Ponds to try and keep the ball out of his hands. It obviously wasn’t what Mullin designed. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opponent for trying to win too.

You can tell MH definitely still trying to find his niche on this offense. I think it’ll get better, reminds of an old Lavin motto, we could be “hitting our stride in February” this season

Happy for Trimble played well.

After all I’ve had to listen to 50 year old men yell and trash this kid at games this year at Carnesecca.

People need to remember these are kids , not getting paid shouldn’t be yelling at them
saying “Trimble you suck get off the floor “
Thanks Manhattan but a little perspective:

50 is not old just in between eras
I’d say many of we older posters are respectful and appreciative

20 year old kids often yell the same derogatory crap
( and of course it’s all colleges and their
respective fans not just the Storm)
IMO never nice to belittle anyone especially young kids

All the best
SS&G
Apologies, the gentlemen who say it are in section 4 and they are definitely in their 50’s ,

Echoing all of the previous posters on this thread…what a game!!! By the time the final buzzer sounded, the adrenaline was surging through my 60-something body like a tidal wave. So, I hope some random, stream of consciousness observations are understandable.

To wit, we have a FEARLESS group of kids who will run through a brick wall for their coach and their team. Chris Mullin has EVOLVED as a coach – truly a thing of beauty to observe. What a trip to see Mullin and Ewing’s teams square off, just like in the old days, when the two of them were on the court. The team’s improvement seems to have evolved in ORGANIC fashion, which as CM said, in a slightly different context, is genuine and authentic.

And they appear to have that special something that all great teams have - CHEMISTRY. Greg Williams can flat out play. He is symbolic of the team’s FUTURE. And as an SJU fan in the Philly area, I'm looking forward to this week’s game with Nova big time!

What a weekend for a St. John’s-Philly fan. GO EAGLES!!!

Minor point, thought Keita played intelligently, making right passes & doing little things. Sense his game will come along nicely
The three bench guys all did fine. We are not going to rely on it much unless something happens so if they can play like today with Keita and Williams with potential to play even better......
I think by the Big East Tournament Keita and Williams will be much better and we will be much better as a team. As good as LJ has been I think he will be better also.

What a stressful exciting win. That ponds steal leading to ally ooop better be top play on espn top 10
One of the best defensive plays I've ever seen for St Johns that wasn't ruined by a ref
Seton Hall ref would have called goaltending on Ponds
Moved up three spots on kenpom to #38
We started the day at 39. Only 1 spot for the road win seems off.

First off, what a special win. I have 2 takeaways:

1.In the Big East, every game is a battle and every road game a total war. You have to hang around and win these close ones, because there are plenty of them. This game was seemingly lost. We didn't steal it, we won it. Gtown played extremely well. They hit big shots, and have a lot of talent. We earned this win.

2. Once again, our lack of size turned what would have been an easy win into a furious struggle. Easy to say for many teams if they had this or that, a good pg or a great shooter, they could be special. For us, one strong rebounder and we are top 10, or top 5. Not a future pro, just a big, strong body that rebounds. Our talent level, and athleticism, is the best in the conference. I watch Heron and Simon and Trimble guarding guys with 4-8 inch height advantages, and a 30 or 40 pound weight advantage, and think there should be a medal for bravery pinned to our guys uniforms. Overcoming a nightly height advantage tells you how good, and how tough, our guys are.

I was reff'ing a HS game this afternoon, and a ton of people were following the game on their phones. Amazing the interest this team is generating! Let some know I was DVRing the game, and they never let on what was happening, so I was able to enjoy this great win on the road in the BEC by this gritty team. Lots they did right, and some things not so good, but I'll take it all day. Can't wait to see them Tuesday, and then live Saturday vs. DePaul.

I was glad to see our quickness make a difference. Govan sucking wind late in the game limited his effectiveness.
