(POST-GAME) @Georgetown (CAP ONE), Sat. Jan. 5, 1p, CBS / 570AM

Thrilled with the win, but up 96-90 with :57 seconds left, coming out of a timeout, how do we have Simon as the primary ball handler. A possession or two before that, he holds the ball too long causing a shot clock violation. Ponds has to have the ball in his hands. We stole this game but I hope we learn moving forward
The Hoyas were overplaying Ponds to try and keep the ball out of his hands. It obviously wasn’t what Mullin designed. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opponent for trying to win too.
After watching the last minute again, my eyes did not deceive me. Would love to give credit to Ewing for ball denial on Ponds, but that wasn't the case. Only Mosely was guarding Ponds and very loosely at the time Simon was fouled. Down 4 with less than 50 seconds to play, the Hoyas were going to foul.

Just a terrific game to be nationally televised. Georgetown was better then I expected and were missing Mac McClung. St John’s has so much talent and and resilience and tooked the part of an NCAA tournament team. Almost felt like 1985.

This was, what I call, a heart attack game. Fortunately, I feel better now.

Give Ewing credit, he had the right game plan.

I can’t add much to what has been posted. What a fantastic feeling.

I did have a feeling it at one point it was going to wind up like last year there but it didn’t (maybe because I wasn’t there).

I agree with espken regarding us not getting Ponds the ball and Simon having to be the one going to the line.

The excitement is building. “If you build it, they will come.

Go St John’s!!! Beat Nova!!!
Ponds POG obviously, but Figgy w 11 points, 9 rebounds, six assists & 4 steals. Thx Matt for this late addition
Absolutely! Feel ball needs to find him a bit more. He plays so well within the flow of the game I think they forget about him at times.
Simon continues his great play since BE season began.
he makes us really dangerous. With 5 legit weapons, it is just a matter of time before one or two start scoring.

Team is not perfect but it is as fun a team to watch as we have had in a long while. Lavin had two solid tourney teams but just from an enjoyable stand point for me would have to go back to Barkley last year.
One thing I've noticed is how engaged and supportive the entire bench is. That's a result of the culture of the team created by CM and co. Job well done there. They all played like a team today. Great effort. Exciting to see the whole bench making noise for the guys on the floor.
Mullin, St. Jean and Richmond have grown as coaches (yes, winning alters perception). One thing that has always been the case is the culture that Mullin brought. Results aside, kids don’t seem to fear taking big shots, seem really supportive of each other and all seem to like the staff. Nice chemistry.

So to anyone at the game- about how many St. John's fans were there? Georgetown fans?

On TV it sounded like a lot of both. Very surprised to hear that many Johnnies fans in DC.

14 points, nine boards, 2 blocks, 2 steals and six assists and 7-11 from the field. He brings it every game.

The Georgetown fans were wildly irritating today and shutting them up was awesome.

Shamorie Ponds’ father Shawn was sitting right near me, and some Georgetown fans started heckling him in the second half. Yelling at him over and over until Ponds dad told them to mind their damn business. Then they start laughing like a bunch of assholes.

When the final buzzer sounded I went right over and shook his hand immediately, he seemed so happy. It was a great feeling. The Georgetown fans were silent on the walk out, what an amazing day

I was rewatching that possession earlier as well, and there was a moment where Trimble had the ball, pivoted, saw an open Ponds, and just held it for a few more seconds until he eventually dumped it off to Simon who was then fouled. Just a mistake. It’s probably difficult cause you wanna trust all your teammates to make the free throws, but you gotta play the percentages and know who to pass to

I’m really late to the party but...wow.

Pardon my French, but what a win. I think I scared the people I work with. That steal, and eff the refs, at the end, what a Goddamned play. I love this team. How about that dunk by Williams during that run at the end of the 1st half? Very impressed. What a win today.

Should be15-0
Imagine how pissed we'll be if we go 39-1. We'll be the angriest fans of a national champion in any sport in the history of sports.

Didn't get to chime in on the game thread, but wanted to comment on Marillac's "Has anybody seen Greg Williams' conscience or sense of fear, because the kid doesn't have either this season."

It's even more impressive considering the tiny school classification he played in down there.

Funny, I had the same insane thought about being the National Champs with a 39-1 record having plowed through Duke and the Hall, both at least once.
I’d be too giddy to be angry.
Who would care about a refs egregious call in Conference Game #1, when we took it all ‘home’...to NYC?

Speaking of rankings, I don’t care if we are ranked. Better they overlook us and keep complaining about our soft schedule as we rack up quality wins. Let’s focus on beating Nova and moving the needle a little bit every time. Keep focused on the job at hand.

I agree.
Keep tacking it on.
All the disrespect fodder to our guys to show the hoops planet what they’re made of.
Keep it going...

Keep doing what we are doing and we will be at 20+ wins and counting real early in our conference slate. The rest will be gravy...
