(POST-GAME) @DePaul, Sun. Mar. 3, Noon, FS-1 / 970 AM

I’m as down as most others here.
Our team seems to have crashed into the ditch at the worst possible time and I expect a dismal finish.
That said, this rising frenzy about getting a new coach seems unrealistic and mindless ranting.
Unless Mullin resigns at season’s end and I doubt it—he’s going nowhere.
Let’s think about ‘best’ options at this juncture.
Our late season meltdown gives our AD major leverage to demand changes to the Staff.
Therein lies our best hope to restructure internally and be competitive next year with decent recruits on board and top guys like a Figgy and Heron returning.
At any rate, that’s the way I see it.

Glad I posted previously that we can't allow Strus and Ulobji to score 45 points that they produced in the first meeting.
Keita is horrible, shouldn't be in Mullin's plans. Hey who knows? Shouldn't have been recruited in the first place.
Can't complain about the refs. Certainly can compliain about our defense.
Still not happy that Ponds takes himself out of the offense early.
Maybe we'll surprise ourselves against Xavier. Nah! Forgot they have big men too.
Beginning to look like we need to advance far in the B.E.Tournament.

What's so unrealistic. Mullin signed either a 5 or 6 year deal. Which means he's entering the point where you have to either extend or agree it's time to part ways. I'm sorry but he has not done anything close to deserving of an extension.

By the way can anyone find any confirmation on 5 or 6 years? I wasn't able to.

I don't doubt that you heard this from someone. But from afar it just doesn't seem right. After the Nova win, Heron remarked how that game was the most remarkable atmosphere he's ever played in. He was highly, highly engaged in the Seton Hall W and the X loss while out with the injury, and he has been seemingly happy all season. He's had a good year, greatly improving his 3-ball game from last year. And we received a 2020 commitment from a kid who is living with the Heron family who had nothing but positive things to say about the staff. So unless something literally changed in the last few days, that just doesn't add up to me. If anything today his frustration seemed far more about the injury and foul trouble.

Btw, this isn't a knock on you (if not clear) or a view that folks with some connection to the program, however remote, should refrain from posting things that are not public. Hell I come to the message boards for that just like Moose said.

What are you basing that on? Do you have even a scintilla of fact to support that statement or are you basing it on what you heard from Paultz earlier in the year?
Issues with Heron and father may not be very pleased with things. Hard to see him staying under those conditions IMO.
Everyone operates under the assumption that another year of ball is good for development. Welp not on our team. Ponds was better suited as an NBA prospect coming out as a soph than he is a junior. Heron went from NBA hopes coming out of Auburn to having no hopes.

Alarming observation is the regression of players. Ponds has regressed, Heron and most notably Simon. Simon game in and game out, makes coachable mistakes. Yet they arent coached out of his game. He honestly has no clue what to do with the basketball and his teamates havent a clue what he is going to do with it either.

Why would any player think another year here would do them any good?
. Simon has played poorly in more than a few games . I disagree his Weaknesses are correctable by Mullin or any other Coach . Sean Miller at Arizona didn’t think so and Simon didn’t play much there in his 1 st year nor , if he stayed he wouldn’t have either . Justin does some things well , very well but, few of them have to do with putting the ball in the basket . It’s a chronic weakness . As for Ponds, I believe he is playing hurt .Heron too! Can’t blame injuries on a Coach . Clark is a foul prone defender , weak rebounder and a good streaky shooter . Good Competitor , nice kid and we all like he played here .. But, we needed more than he has in his game .

Why do you question everything that well respected posters hear? Honest question not being difficult. I look forward to coming to the board to see what others who have inside connections have to say about the team. Certain posters have access to information. Whether it be from players directly, their handlers, coaches, reporters, others in the athletic dept. From Day 1 it was widely known Heron was here for a year. Once things are so certain its tough to turn back from there. Once these kids are set on things it's ingrained.
You are also well aware of the PM rumor mill we’ve always had around these forums. I’ve told someone something I thought would happen that got back to me as a fact from another person like a week later. Once something gets out it gains in confidence and is around perpetually.

I have no doubt that Heron thought he would stay a year and get drafted. That’s not his reality now though. He wouldn’t go in a three round draft this year. Unfortunately our players tend to be guided by things other than reality so he may very well be gone when he doesn’t get a combine invite.

Wonder how hard Simon worked on his weaknesses this off season. Heard he worked with Mitch on his shooting form (unfortunately like a boxer who tries to change his style when in action he usually reverts back to his prior form). He should have been dribbling up and down the court about 5,000 times a day because for a 6'5 player his handle is to put it mildly is less than stellar.

I think Simon's play is a reflection of his coaches' lack of defined roles for his players. Can't do everything.

Please can we stop blaming the refs. I think most new from the beginning that this team was weak,no big man no SF to rebound at best we rightfully belong around 6or 7 th in the league. As far as going to the NCAA dance hate to say it we really don’t belong.Every team in the tourney will exploit our weakness which we all know and we will be 1 and done unles we can put a few great shooting games together which hasn’t happened over a yr yes I blame staff for not having a good center, also just perhaps staff is not good at picking out talent other than 4 or 5 .s. And you do not have to be a physic to know the high rated players are usual good it is getting and devoloping 3and4s or seeing something in a player that others do not makes for good recruiting that aside brings us to the gleaming deficiency of out coach and stall.
4 yrs expected better and should have recd better. To wait another yr without the powers to be in our school without at least putting staff on notice is just pandering to star power if they say 1more yr if no better results we part ways ok ,if not they are not being Fair to the school and to the fans At this yr 4 we should at least not continuously be embarrassed we all bleed Red but when will it stop

Why does that make people want to keep quiet?
You share something if you feel like it, if posters demand more detail, you share it only if you want to. Then if people get mad then so be it, get mad, it doesn't mean that i'm now gonna share if i don't feel like it.

People worry to much.

Because why would you want to take heat when you can just keep quiet next time? Many people are currently doing so sitting on things most likely. If posters would just say "oh, that's interesting if true" instead of "what crap are you basing this on?" type attitude, more would come out.

Simple coaching decision that sums up everything: Simon is the designated inbounder when the ball is under the basket! Is there a worse passer on the team? SIMON SAYS NO Is there a guy who tries to force the ball in places it doesn't belong more than Justin? SIMON SAYS NO Is there a player who tries to pass to unskilled teammates, who couldn't possibly receive the pass, more than Justin SIMON SAYS NO!
Why does LG never seem to get the ball when we have our longest droughts?

Simon’s issues are not correctable by anyone. I noticed it immediately before he ever played a minute here and have been vocal about it. He will never be a good shooter or dribbler. He can get a little better but the issue issue is coordination and body control. He’s always out of control and playing too fast.

The issues can be mitigated by a more defined role.

I actually think Simon is a decent passer.

He might not get drafted you are right. But getting paid to play wherever might be better in his mind than being at SJU next year.

I'd post it, and if people ask that, i'd be like "i don't have to explain anything to you, it's what i heard and i'm putting it out there.
Take it as you want it, but i'm not going into details..

It's that simple Mike.

Heron has NBA potential so it would be a shame for him to not stay for his senior year. Nigel Williams-Goss was a second round pick and had to play in Serbia for $100k.

Big East may only get two in. Tough finding 36 at-large teams worthy of filling this field.

The real sign of deterioration is that we shot over 40% from 3 the last 2 games, and still lost. Mullin goes into the presser and talks about how our guys don't carve out space. The truth is that he didn't recruit a well balanced roster, and is paying the expected price.
