Bad loss today, no question. The most frustrating thing about this Jekyll and Hyde team is they play down to their competition. It's how we can look like world beaters against the top of the league and pedestrian against the rest that makes it incredibly frustrating.

Looking at the bright side: we still have a significant opportunity to finish 9-9 and be the 3rd seed in the BET with a tough but winnable game v. Xavier after 6 days off. Should give Ponds and Heron an opportunity to heal up a bit. And were conformably "In" on every pundit's bracket.

All is not lost. It would sure be nice if our opponents best players would stop having career nights against us.
I agree Mickey, mathematically that’s true. The problem that I see is that it seems this team has taken on the lackadaisical , laid back personality of our Head Coach. That’s the way they play and that’s the way they act. You can hear it in some of the lost game comments I’ve read after previous games. Unfortunately, I just don’t think this team wants it bad enough. They all seem like great kids but they just do not have that killer instinct that a really good team needs. As I said earlier, at what point do become embarrassed by their performance and show some guts and pride? I know about the refs and all that but the fact of the matter is this is s low basketball IQ team that makes too many mental and unforced errors. That lack of focus and determination comes from just not wanting it bad enough.

If that's the case then please no more big name coaches., give me a hungry up and comer.
My biggest fear is we really blow this year then Mullin resigns, were back to square 1 AGAIN!
A worse fear is that he stays and we continue to regress! Next year figures to be worse than this year.

Depends on who you bring in. Besides, I only view Mullin as mediocrity anyhow. We may have a year here and there that might get fans giddy, but I don't sense anything positive to be sustainable with him at the helm.

We're wasting time. Unless he can pull a rabbit or two outta his ass per recruiting, then cut the chord.
Would have or would like to see what Mullin could do with a staff of 2 recruiters and an experienced solid X and o assistant as he is a good figure head to have as coach ala Joe Lapchick.
After today, are we still NY City's team?
Yes, DeBlasio's team.
After today, are we still NY City's team?
Think Fordham might give us a run
After today, are we still NY City's team?
Right now I’d call us “New York’s shitty team”

I have doubts he'll take well being told he needs to hire two new assistants and remove anyone from his current staff. I think he'd step down before allowing that to occur.

Besides, who knows if he'd allow the X 's and I'd guy to coach his game, and not Mullin's way. I also feel Mullin needs to get his ass out there on the recruiting trail and beat the bushes. If needs all that, then damn the figurehead, lol.
What will it take for these guys to feel totally embarrassed by their performance? The problem is the team has taken on the personality of their coach. Laid back we’ll get’em next time attitude. This team lacks Balls!! Plain and simple. You guys like Artest, Grant, Glover and Postell would ever allow themselves to be pushed around like this. That team didn’t have a lot of size either but they had balls!!
. You forgot Erick Barkley, arguably , one of the best PG to play his 2 years for us . And Reggie Jessie. . This team has No Barkley . That team had 3 NBA players , Artest, Barkley and Postell. This team , likely just 1 .That team had way more talent . Also too, I and many others overrated the individual talent of this team . Our 5 Starters all have various good skills but, each one has weakness too. The weaknesses at the Individual level then added up to Team Weakness and the pluses were not enough to offset being more than a hopefully .500 team . Of course, Mullin will receive all the blame but, the Players have to be responsible too. But, doubt many posters will want t to hold the Players accountable . I don’t want to add up the individual Weaknesses because it involves naming that player . The more Astute posters know the weaknesses of each player . Remember too, BE Coaches had us as a 4 or 5 th place team , which is about where we are . It’s disappointing to accept that fate but, it’s really pretty correct .
I must say, I actually thought Mullin was going to bring star power in terms of recruits. If Matt is the one that's bringing in the talent via transfers/juco, Mullin's coaching isn't cutting it. I think his style could work if we actually had a legit roster. It's ridiculously obvious that you need somewhat of a balanced roster in regard to positioning. Even if we somehow make it the tourney, we're getting smoked 1st round. Real teams expose fake teams. This whole situation drives me nuts.
From viewing this site, it seems Mullin and his staff, with the exception of Matt , don't recruit. The freshman center for Depaul is from Long Island and WANTED to play for us. Apparently the 40 minute drive was too much of an effort for the measly millions Mullin gets paid by us each year.
Question is what can we do to insure our next head coach isn't just another celebrity who will take our money without working , nor an up and comer who will just use us as a stepping stone.

We played well. Scored 83 points on the road. Played against the refs, too. And we've been doing that since the Seton Hall debacle. And our second leading scorer is hurt.

Last year we were DePaul - defeating top teams late in the year.

Point is: let's not descend on Mullin like a horde of internet locusts. Angling for the departure of Mullin is a BAD IDEA. We cannot continue this cycle of coach-killing every 5 years. We are bringing sellout crowds to NYC for our games.

Well to damn blanking bad if Mullin doesn't take well to being told that.
If he doesn't like it, then please step down, it will be 4 years of nothing if they don't make it this year, and with this exact staff, with the exception of Slice going and Mitch coming.
We need change, and it doesn't matter to me who the coach is.

Some might be in awe of the icon and act like a little kid, like omg that's Chris, we can't do that to him.
Me? I don't have that problem.
You put aside the name, and just like any profession you evaluate the job that he's doing as coach.

The thing is that I feel Mullin is trying from a coaching standpoint, but too stubborn to realize his flaws. Probably feels he knows more about hoops than anyone else, which is probably true as a player. However, that doesn't make you a good coach. The recruiting issue is definitely a big problem, you need to be seen and hit the HS gyms.

What does having NBA talent has to do with gumption and balls? None! Talent? Yes. But not gumption and gonads.

This team was picked anywhere from 2nd-4th by MOST prognosticators. You were also one of the posters hollerin' this was one of our best teams in many years, but now moving the goalposts when your predictions are going down the toilet. All to not admit you were wrong. But more importantly, to not place any blame on Mullin.

DePaul scored 59 second half points, 36 by Struss alone. Pretty hard to blame the refs for that.

We played well? I must have been watching a different game.

Bobby Hurley would be hungry enough and he would have a real staff that would not be outworked. Can't teach DNA or pedigree. I have yet to see a SJ team truly get better and better as the season went on with clear progression for most players with improved chemistry. All I've seen since 2011 is no chemistry and lots of athletes but few basketball players and zero good coaches. People have to realize this is our ceiling with Mullin. Barely treading water is our ceiling. This is what I sensed early on though I was killed for it. We may very well lose out including the BET and then look back on the Seton Hall game we should've had as the one that kept us out of the tourney thanks to the refs. In a weird way though, they could be expediting Mullin's departure so maybe that lands us Oates or Hurley. I still think Mullin walks away regardless of outcome after this year.
