Man, what a kick in the balls it would be to miss the tournament after all your NET work.
Adam, why so negative? Thought you said we could still make it at 8-10?

The most frustrating, underachieving, and disappointing team I can remember us having.

I've got nothing, because if you can't find something nice to say. . . .

I don’t think CM doesn’t care or that he is done, I read his comments as him being at a complete loss to explain what is going on. Not saying that’s a good thing... it ain’t, just saying that’s what I think is going on with him.
Well if the head coach can't explain what is going on who can? If he has no idea what is going on he certainly is not going to be able to fix it. Seems pretty obvious to me that no matter how many years he is given he simply doesn't get it.
I hate to say it, but Chris Mullin sounds like an idiot.
You're the freaking head coach for crying out loud, if you're not in charge then please by all means chris, STEP DOWN.

We absolutely can still make it at 8-10, especially if we win a BET game or two. Granted, we aren't making it easy on ourselves by losing to Xavier/DePaul by such large margins. We are killing our NET by losing by 9/10 points (caps at 10 points) to such mediocre teams. No way we would've dropped 10 spots in NET had we lost to Xavier by just a couple points. We can't give up at the end of games even if we have no shot at winning.

That said, I've said all along that if we go 8-10 with a BET win we'd probably be in Dayton, and I've also said that would be a disappointing season unless we go on an NCAA run.

8-10 may squeak us into Dayton but that was never the goal.

All along I knew the team would not make things easy and our NCAA hopes would come down to the last couple games. How we've responded to prosperity and hardship screamed "bubble" team to me. Our first 4 Big East games, the stretch we were all focused on before the season started, solidified what type of a team we were.

Going forward, our success or failure will pretty much be a coin flip. At the very least things have been interesting... for better or worse.

And, I get that the first Seton Hall "loss" is water way under the bridge, but how different does it look at 9-8 instead of 8-9. Jeez.
(But, I suppose its like that bad call in the second inning of a baseball game where it can't be used as an excuse, because there was so much time make up for it, but man does it suck).

You guys gotta stop talking about the seton hall game. You’ve all seen how this team performs after a big win. If we win that seton hall game we probably go out and lose to Marquette. The loss to seton hall pushed this team to win one of their impressive wins of the season.

Additionally we always talk about the near miss recruiting or guys who have left here who could play, as if we would still have everyone who is presently here, plus those guys.

I'm sorry, but it appears to me that many posters here are entirely disconnected with reality. I know we are mostly all alumni of the university, but let's be honest with ourselves - it is not a desirable school/program. The campus and facilities are completely run-down. While it is cool to play at the garden, it is not the same as having the on-campus atmosphere - which even CA lacks. The school still feels largely like a commuter school. And the degree-prestige is mediocre. Whereas at other large state universities, student-athletes live like royalty. The facilities are pristine, the campus atmosphere is intoxicating, there may be other sports to build buzz, and a degree (or opportunity to eventually get a degree) means more. In NYC, no one cares about the St. John's student athletes - they get lost in the hustle-bustle. Which, in this insta-fame era, is not what these students are looking for in the 1-2 years they hope to play college ball.

At least Mullin brings relevance to the program. It's a reason why most of our best players have been via transfers or JUCO transfers. We can sell Mullin's play-style and attitude, and the big-stage as a way for these once highly-regarded athletes to change their reputations. Gathering these reclamation projects is the only way I believe we will be able to succeed - and this will not be easy without the figurehead at the top.

We got robbed w SHU, but we fouled the last play against VCU and could have lost that game. I’m not optimistic agaist X, a big team trending, in a hostile environment. That’s not to say we can’t beat them. But, the real disturbing fact is we are trending in the wrong direction.

I don't care if Mullin has the best play-style and attitude in college basketball, you can't sell a coach who can't make the NCAA Tournament.

Then I guess it’s a good thing they’re going to make the tourney this year. Deserved or not.

Just curious: when was the last time you were on campus? The Tobin school makeover is dazzling, D'Angelo Hall has stunning views of the stadium below with dozens of quiet study and gathering places for students. There are fountains and reflecting pools, a new baseball stadium, and a lacrosse field over the parking garage.

My son went to BC and the dorms there are no better. Athletes are intermingled among other students so their dogs aren't palatial.

There is a pretty new chapel on campus, and the library's 3rd floor is now the home of the school of professional studies , replete with a homeland security lab that can simulate national disasters.

My guess is you havent been on campus in quite some time. The campus is now very nice.

Some of what you said is true but I don't agree that "Gathering these reclamation projects is the only way".
The degree prestige is also absurd. Top players never graduate. Kentucky and Kansas are blue blood gold standards. They not prestigious academic institutions. The football schools do have better facilities and monetary support but Gonzaga is very similar to St. John's and Villanova.
As much as this irks some here we just don't have a good coaching staff. Period.

So true. We will need to play our top game similar to our first one against Marquette. Can't let the crowd take over. No lapses.
