Why all the talk about Calipari? He's failing to win with 5-star players in the SEC. Why would anyone expect he'd win with 4-5 star players in the usually tougher Big East

A risk in taking a 70 yr old coach. Not interested in a very short-term guy who might retire after 3 yrs. Only take Pitino If he has both the health and the desire to stick around at least 5 yrs. Otherwise, go after Kelsey.

Greg is not Big East ready at this point of time but he is doing a solid job at Niagara

The Big East is up there and that’s with strong brands like Georgetown and Butler being down right now.

Perhaps but as of late, overall, I wouldn’t say the Big East is a stronger conference.
As of late? Big east has been ranked higher in RPI 8 of last 10 seasons!

Great call. The Big East has actually ranked very highly in RPI every single year since they split to the current iteration. In fact, they usually rank higher than most of the power conferences each year.
Only conference better than the Big East this last decade is the Big 12 based on RPI.
Cal's approach has always been more about the Jimmy's and Joe's than the x's and o's so if he can't significantly recruit at STJ it could indeed be problematic.
It can be assumed that Pitino would bring along a high quality staff and should be asked about a succession plan in negotiations to alleviate those concerns.

I didn’t think of him but if it came to that I would be ok with it. He has won at the highest level. That has to count for something.
