Porter Moser
Honestly haven’t watched Moser enough to draw a conclusion on his coaching abilities, so I will go by his record. The guy has made 1 NCAA Tourny and had a slightly over .500 record in 15 years of coaching in mediocre conferences. Remove his miracle season and he’s a .500 coach in his career. This is the best we can do??? Really??? I’m sorry, give me Cluess “the winner” any day of the week.
His team was 2 points away from making the NCAA Tourney again this year. That is arguably a more difficult feat than winning the MAAC.

If you want to be the best and create a prominent program then you have to act like it and invest. The revenue will come when we start winning consistently and that is how you afford a proven winner.

How many people say they want a kia as a dream car? None. If you want a BMW then you but a BMW. This is bull shit.

Welcome to mediocrity.
^^^ Joke of a post

People acting like Tim is all superior to Moser.
Wow, dominating the MAAC is quite an accomplishment.
I never said Tim was the answer. We are thinking to small.
No, no,no I been saying I want RICK PITINO.
I always go huge, go for the best.
I want it all, I'm real greedy.
I don't want to win just the B.E, or B.E tourny.
Only thing I want is a national championship, I never think small.
I WANT IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Cluess has a 2.5 million dollar buyout it's a very big issue from where he is coming from at Iona. That kind of money goes a long way into hiring top notch assistants. I wouldn't mind either if the staff hired is excellent. Plenty of grad transfers still out there and staff with local ties to recruit locally is very important.

Fair enough, but then what do you think about a guy who was no better than mediocre in 14 of his 15 years in the Sunbelt, Horizen and MVC conferences? And downright horrible in a few of those 14 years.
Never thought I'd be begging for TIm Cluess, but here we are.
LOL A good one!

OK, you want to argue Moser had a miracle seaon, I'll argue that did Tim Cluess ever have a miracle season?
6 tries, and he's still 0 for

Clap Clap Clap, Tim rules the MAAC, he's awesome.
Lets get him.

What about Moser would lead someone to believe he can build a long term winner here when he hasn’t anywhere else?

I'll ask the same about TIM.
WHAT HAS HE DONE BESIDES BESIDES DOMINATE THE MAAC.

Please can someone tell me, what has he done?
Did he ever succeed in a major conf?
And, if he's all great, why hasn't another power conf school grab him?

I would love to understand this love fest with Tim?

It’s called “delusion”. There’s a lot of that going around on this board these days.

I like it. For no other reason than he has two first names and two last names. And since I am bad with names, I can mix and match it.

I'm at a crossroad, which way to go between the 2 'finalists' (as far as I know)?
Cluess is a local guy, a winner albeit in a 'low' mid-major conference and has deep roots as a Johnnie.
Moser is a coach with a less-than stellar overall record, but a successful and winning coach the past 5 years in a better mid-major conference.
Both work hard, both are involved in recruiting, both are solid coaches, with Cluess very offensive minded and Moser more defensive oriented.
Both play 8-9 guys (defined as playing more than 10 mpg)
Cluess has solid NY Metro ties; Moser does not, but is plugged into the Chicago scene and has recruited international prospects and a Jersey guy.
I think both would cost about the same, except Cluess seems to have a pricey buyout.
My heart goes for Cluess; my head calls it a 'wash'.
At this point, CD, the weather vane, says 'just do it already.'
Lol.

I agree that the Cluess buyout may be the deciding factor. But all things being close to equal monetarily, don’t see how Moser is a better choice than Cluess. And I’m lookin at this objectively. I simply want the best HC we can get within the parameters that the school has set.

Let's also remember he paid his dues at impossible to recruit places and when he was an assistant to coach Majerus this -
"Ranked in the top 50 Division I assistant coaches by Basketball Times in 2009, Moser was an assistant coach at Saint Louis under Rick Majerus from 2007 to 2011, including as associate head coach from 2008 to 2011."

It's safe to say we're not going to be hiring a clear cut "home run". That said, I am ready to get behind Moser. For the past six or seven years, my mantra has been....."I just want a hard-working, experienced basketball coach". It looks like we will finally be getting that. So, not my first choice, but I am on board.

Now we just need a strong, hard-working staff in place. Frankly, I think Moser would have done more with last year's roster than what we achieved. Let's embrace this guy. I have a gut feeling he does better than the last few guys.

Too close to Moose

He is not my choice! But looking further and at Loyola Chicago especially.

From 1985 to 2011 when Moser was hired:
- 6 seasons of 15 wins or more.
- Moser has 6 since.

- 1 season of 20 wins or more.
- Moser has 3 of his own.

I can see the case being made that he has grown as a coach and has the type of style to win in the big east. Plus his age and personality might be worth a few points. I will also say this, when typing in his name it got autocorrected to “loser” the first few times. Can’t be good.
