You should draft a huge apology letter to Chris Mullin, Steve Lavin and all of us on here. Spent so much time bitching, you finally got what you wanted and somehow you are still bitching.
Mullin should draft a huge apology letter to the fans for his ridiculous tenure here as a coach. He was never invested and it's now known per many sources out there in the media. He wasted our time and did not recruit. What you call "bitching" is demanding effort. It's what got Lavin canned when he stopped recruiting and it's what ended Mullin's tenure. Effort and accountability are expected of any other job that pays 45k or less let alone millions of dollars. I wanted Mullin to work out for us as badly as you did. We differ in that you care about the person/emotions over the program despite failure and I care about the program over the person. Why is it so hard to understand that you can want Mullin to step down and then also acknowledge the coaching search has been a disaster? I want to cleanse the dead weight. Sounds like you want it to stay.
Last 2 coaches got fired after they made tourney. This program is not that kind of program and most of you should have just enjoyed yourselves. I understand / understood complaints about last 2 guys. Problem is school can't do any better. As we are seeing.
And even with Mullin faults would rather have Mullin and LJ and probably Simon than whoever we settle for and 7 walkons!
Mullin made the tourney with us as the actual last team in and proceeded to get blown out by ASU even if the score didn't really show a pounding. They dominated. We were a wounded animal limping into the tourney on a horrid stretch. I read other fan boards of other teams and they ALL say Mullin is an awful coach and are shocked he wasted all that talent. The ONLY reason we even made the tourney is because we had a creampuff OOC schedule that inflated our W total. National pundits like Vitale called it out. We ate lots of cupcakes we did not get in on merit. Anyone with a slight sense of nuance knows this.
You are right things looking much better now
You're right...that girl should stay with her abusive boyfriend. I mean, what if she has to go back on the market and start dating new guys? That's a hassle. Eh, just take the abuse. This is essentially what you're implying.

If making the tournament is the only measuring stick, then you are right.

But it isn't, so you are not.
Good because not seeing a tourney for long time so we do need a new measuring stick. Nicest uniforms? Best cheers? Going to need a new stick
Point...meet 'we are sju'...sju...meet Point. You seem to have missed each other earlier in this conversation.

Terrible analogy
This would be like a guy breaking up with girl who only puts out once every 4 years and then dates a girl who castrates him.

I am not quite sure it is fair to call the coachiing search a disaster. This is a process. Perhaps when Duke hired Coach K, all those years ago, there would have been people calling that search a disaster if the process was scrutinized to the same degree that this process has been. Social media and immediate gratification culture of today's society does not give long term analysis and patience its proper place.

For all anyone knows Moser, Cluess, Scheyer or whomever we hire will be the right choice. It is easy to be negative given our post Lou Carenesecca history, but at the end of the day we will hire someone and my hope is that when that hire is made the program thrives and is wildly successful. Trust the process, as murky as it is, someone will come here.

When the Yankees hired Joe Torre the optics were terrible, "Clueless Joe" he was called. A few years later he was Genius Joe the man with the Midas touch. Patience is the key here. Let us see how it plays out before we deem the whole thing a disaster. I for one will remain hopeful and stay positive.

As someone who has followed the post-Louie coach searches, I never thought anyone could foul things up more than Fr. Grifty Harrington and his pals, but Pres. Bobby and Joe Oliva are making it a horse race. This is how they hire and fire people in the Bizarro World.
Donating money to the school only enables these idiots.

Excellent post Ghostzapper. Some of the contradictory reports being put out by the media make it pretty clear no one outside the process really knows where things stand and exactly what is going on. Best to wait and judge the result. I do agree with whoever said a coach needs to be in place by the weekend though.

I brought up Joe Torre in the past, and others here mentioned Bill Belichick. Both good examples, but remember one thing about the pros: Roster makeup is about 80-90% of the reason for success, and in baseball especially, it's usually somebody else who's picking the players. Guys are under contract in the pros, so if you fire the coach, or manager, player continuity is usually not affected too much. You don't get that same deal in college ball.

I do agree that we should wait to see who the hire is before we deem things a disaster (or a success), and even if you don't like who the new coach is, that person deserves our 100% support, once he is on board.

Ghostzapper and SJU61982 recall a now infamous NY Daily News Back Page. It will be a few years before we could say whether it's truly parallel scenario, but it's a good initial comparison. I am hoping Moser accepts in the next few hours.

Similar “habits”

If he says no it won't be because of money.

They have made a very generous offer that Loyola cannot come close to competing with.

Desperation. Yikes.
I’m thinking about this and wondering why in God’s name Moser would even want this job? He’s going to uproot his entire family and move them to one of the most expensive cities in the world to work in this circus atmosphere? He has to know that if he doesn’t meet with success in a relatively short period of time that the fan base and the media will be calling for his head. He will be placed under a huge microscope from the moment he arrives, especially since most of the fan base wouldn’t be happy with the hire. Regardless of our past failures, expectation will always be very high here. And this being the media capitol of the world, nothing gets overlooked. And it’s not like the shool is opening the vault for him, so not really getting how this move makes sense for him.
Agree Monte. I think there's a solid chance Moser may reject SJU's offer. An event 1/2 the Board would cheer. Lol.
When he got his hefty $$$-bump last year following Loyola's FF run, he waxed poetic about being a 'Chicago guy' and having deep roots there.
Question is, if that happens, who would #2 be?
Would it be Cluess, or would Cragg opt for someone else?
Scheyer, Odom?
I think Tim would still accept an offer from us, but is his buyout just too much for SJU to disgest?
Dunno, but just hope we have a new HC by tomorrow.
Sounds like he may not want the job.
lmfao now this shit is funny.
We might not even be able to give the job to most coaches.
Maybe show you what most coaches thiink about sju, now we go to cluess, and he might say fu to sju.
This coul;d get bad

Obviously SJ made a conscious decision that they will invest only so much into the BB program. Now we can expect mediocrity from here on out. Looks like we can expect records like 14-14 and 7-9 as our averages as we move on. Not a lot to cheer for.

Slater saying it is an 8 y ear deal for Moser on the table. Sounds like a lot but as always the buyout is the big number.

It’s easy to look like a genius when team owner continuously restocks the roster with future Hall of Famers. And I’m a Yankee fan
