Porter Moser

I am sorry who exactly is the upgrade? We hired someone? Jon Scheyer?
The unfilled position will recruit just as much as Mullin did.
Hey I am fine with having no coach. Would make us stand out at least. Problem is might not have any players either.

This certainly hasn’t been pretty. Cluess’ contract I’m sure not helping.
Couple of things, Moser and family are having a legitimate hard time deciding. Job appeals to him a lot.

I think a lot of us thought job would have more appeal then Moser or Cluess but it doesn't right now.
Guarantee won't stop most on here from bitching about next hire and throwing out unrealistic names.
Both are upgrades over Mullin.

Mullin had to go he was not going to work out and he was not prepared to put in the work at all. And worse being a legend was going to make it harder and harder to get rid of him.

The names are not sexy but they are solid with a staff.

The bigger issue was 4 years ago, they could have gotten Danny Hurley and he would have worked his ass off here. Danny in retrospect would have been so much better.
I am talking about candidates so now you are only saying this because Mullin is being compared to a vacancy...
You really can't compare anything until someone you know agrees to come and coach here for $. I mean and if Scheyer you won't be able to compare as he has you know never coached before. So maybe we should keep ST Jean and his dry board around just in case it is Scheyer.
We were talking about candidates involved. If you want to play semantic games like that fine then do what you want.

I don't care.

Maybe Cragg is an evil genius and knows all the names Oliva throws out will reject the job, and he'll end up with Scheyer eventually.

Is someone a candidate if they have no intention of accepting? I think that is one for the philosophers.

Yeah because that is def a no brainer Scheyer. I know as much about what kind of coach you would be. Those holding
out hope for Scheyer haven't accepted denial yet as the last grieving step.

Probably fans should think twice from now on about complaining about coaches who bring us to NCAA tourney as last two have.;) ;)
On side note my son's CYO basketball coach last year guided them to the championship for 4th and 5th grade. Not sure he would leave for ST John's job but thought I would throw him out as a candidate.
I would take anyone over Mullin. It has made me think twice about calling for Lavin's head though. At least he tried most of the time.

Right now you have no one......is that better or worse than anyone?

I can't wait for your first "No one should resign" thread. Or "Fire no one"

Right now we should try to land whomever Oliva doesn’t want. Oliva seems like the kiss of death for our program.

Mike Francesa said when you want to hire a coach it must be cleared by the NCAA. Does anyone know if Pitino would be if we called? If the answer is yes he would be able to be hired, we are looking at bum candidates instead of a HOF coach who is from the NYC area. You want to make a splash and shut everyone up making fun of us right now? You hire Rick Pitino. Screw the moral BS. It's time to win...bigly.
You should draft a huge apology letter to Chris Mullin, Steve Lavin and all of us on here. Spent so much time bitching, you finally got what you wanted and somehow you are still bitching.
Dear Chris,

College coaching is a full time job and a lot harder than it looks. I'm truly sorry that our athletic department offered you this job in the first place. With no experience, or desire to recruit, you had little to no chance of success. They should have known better and not put you in a position to fail and tarnish your reputation.

Still love you though!

St John's fanbase

How's that ?

Right now I think NO ONE is doing a great job. He doesn't sit on tables. Doesn't delegate the dry board. He didn't hire his best bud to sit on bench with him. He doesn't hand out awful nicknames or self promote. He doesn't have an awful Boston accent or pay backup centers. He doesn't expose himself to the team. He is not Norm Roberts.
I say keep NO ONE!

Mullin should draft a huge apology letter to the fans for his ridiculous tenure here as a coach. He was never invested and it's now known per many sources out there in the media. He wasted our time and did not recruit. What you call "bitching" is demanding effort. It's what got Lavin canned when he stopped recruiting and it's what ended Mullin's tenure. Effort and accountability are expected of any other job that pays 45k or less let alone millions of dollars. I wanted Mullin to work out for us as badly as you did. We differ in that you care about the person/emotions over the program despite failure and I care about the program over the person. Why is it so hard to understand that you can want Mullin to step down and then also acknowledge the coaching search has been a disaster? I want to cut the dead weight. Oliva should be next. Sounds like you want it to stay.
Solution-
Before every game sell raffle tix to determine who will coach that night.
Positives-Schools not only saves money, it makes money.
Negatives-SJU misses the tournament again.

Situation getting ridiculous. Hire a coach already.
I had a similar idea - since the board keeps bringing up the need for assistant coaches and is in love with several candidates, hire four of them and let them rotate the coach title each game. Or maybe one keeps it until he loses and the next guy then is promoted. Will also solve the problem of needing to save money.
High risk, high reward for Moser. He’s now had a taste of the fame that comes with making the NCAA Tourney and doing well, but is stuck in a conference that only gets one bid. He’s also gotten a nice little taste of NYC media spotlight, appearing this year as an analyst on the CBS Tourney broadcast.

I’m sure from a purely professional standpoint, he’d jump at the opportunity to coach in the Big East, play at MSG and he could probably handle the double-edged sword of the media spotlight. But the family/personal considerations have to be huge coming from the Midwest with 4 young kids.
Job security has to be huge for a guy like him. Ain’t much of that here.

Last 2 coaches got fired after they made tourney. This program is not that kind of program and most of you should have just enjoyed yourselves. I understand / understood complaints about last 2 guys. Problem is school can't do any better. As we are seeing.
And even with Mullin faults would rather have Mullin and LJ and probably Simon than whoever we settle for and 7 walkons!

If making the tournament is the only measuring stick, then you are right.

But it isn't, so you are not.

Mullin made the tourney with us as the actual last team in and proceeded to get blown out by ASU even if the score didn't really show a pounding. They dominated. We were a wounded animal limping into the tourney on a horrid stretch. I read other fan boards of other teams and they ALL say Mullin is an awful coach and are shocked he wasted all that talent. The ONLY reason we even made the tourney is because we had a creampuff OOC schedule that inflated our W total. National pundits like Vitale called it out. We ate lots of cupcakes we did not get in on merit. Anyone with a slight sense of nuance knows this.

Good because not seeing a tourney for long time so we do need a new measuring stick. Nicest uniforms? Best cheers? Going to need a new stick

You are right things looking much better now

Zaun Jesus go take a nap already. You’re single handily killing this board with your non stop whining and bitching. It’s over. Move on.
