Porter Moser

This whole thing is an embarrassment. Starts from the top down. Need to cut the head off the snake.
Probably fans should think twice from now on about complaining about coaches who bring us to NCAA tourney as last two have.;) ;)

Sounds like it’s time to cut out losses and figure out a way to land Cluess or get another good candidate lined up somehow that wants to be here. This certainly hasn’t been pretty. Cluess’ contract I’m sure not helping.
Couple of things, Moser and family are having a legitimate hard time deciding. Job appeals to him a lot.

I think a lot of us thought job would have more appeal then Moser or Cluess but it doesn't right now.

I think Moser will accept the job. The word is that he feels that he has hit a ceiling recruiting at Loyola. Also, after his FF appearance, the big offers really never came.

I hope he takes the job and I think he will ultimately be a very good hire. Hopefully we know by the end of the day. I am sure SJU and Moser have agreed on a deadline for him to accept or decline.

Guarantee won't stop most on here from bitching about next hire and throwing out unrealistic names.

My guess is if Moser declines or wasn't offered, Scheyer is the guy. But ?????
Mike Francesa said when you want to hire a coach it must be cleared by the NCAA. Does anyone know if Pitino would be if we called? If the answer is yes he would be able to be hired, we are looking at bum candidates instead of a HOF coach who is from the NYC area. You want to make a splash and shut everyone up making fun of us right now? You hire Rick Pitino. Screw the moral BS. It's time to win...bigly.
You should draft a huge apology letter to Chris Mullin, Steve Lavin and all of us on here. Spent so much time bitching, you finally got what you wanted and somehow you are still bitching.

I learned that lesson about the St. John's job, when Paul Hewitt turned us down 9 years. Georgia Tech wanted him to leave. Their fans wanted him to leave. He knew he had a 99% chance of getting fired if he stayed at Tech one more year. Yet, he still turned us down in the end.

Since then, my expectations for where we can get a coach from have always been muted.

We shouldn't know that Moser is on the fence, or even that he was offered the job. Whether he takes it or not, it's already embarrassing. What happened to Dawkins, Odom, Rhodes? If you can put Hsu and Borman with one of them, or GSJ I think we have a shot. Right now the mom and pop in Queens looks like grandma and grandpa at the memory care in Jersey.

I think they should just pull a page from Bad News Bears part 2. Hire the janitor make up a fake backstory like he is the winningest D2 coach in history-no one will bother checking it out and then just let players coach themselves.

Both are upgrades over Mullin.

Mullin had to go he was not going to work out and he was not prepared to put in the work at all. And worse being a legend was going to make it harder and harder to get rid of him.

The names are not sexy but they are solid with a staff.

The bigger issue was 4 years ago, they could have gotten Danny Hurley and he would have worked his ass off here. Danny in retrospect would have been so much better.

I am sorry who exactly is the upgrade? We hired someone? Jon Scheyer?

Solution-
Before every game sell raffle tix to determine who will coach that night.
Positives-Schools not only saves money, it makes money.
Negatives-SJU misses the tournament again.

Situation getting ridiculous. Hire a coach already.

See the problem is like that old tree falling in a forest question. Can you hire someone if no one wants to be hired?

What Mullin was given and then at the same time allowed to piss away is extraordinary.

Part of the reason this is not a great job anymore is because of the last 4 years. I don't want this to be a dump on Mullin thread but he did a very poor job and that was evident 2 years ago. It wasn't going to work. People can argue about those who trashed him constantly as being unfair and getting their just desserts and that's fine, but the fact is just as many people made excuses for him about his staff, recruiting strategy and roster and those people were equally wrong.

It's fine to offer someone like Billy Donovan like we did the last time around because it's not publicly embarrassing to get turned down. You swung for the fences and fell short. But if you are going to offer Porter Moser, you sure as shit better know he's 100 percent taking the job.

Cluess should up his price and add a year to his demands if the search circles back to him. I didn't think he was the right guy for the job over other names, but he is too good to be someone's bridesmaid.

I am talking about candidates so now you are only saying this because Mullin is being compared to a vacancy...

The unfilled position will recruit just as much as Mullin did.

You really can't compare anything until someone you know agrees to come and coach here for $. I mean and if Scheyer you won't be able to compare as he has you know never coached before. So maybe we should keep ST Jean and his dry board around just in case it is Scheyer.
