Porter Moser

Give the guy time. Guy literally got offered yesterday. Coaches always have to think about logistics. As a SJU fan I’d just like to see somebody in place soon.
This was what I worried about. A Chicago guy, with a young family.
Totally agree with NCJohnnie and others; wish we could've kept this 'zipped' until his decision.
He faces a Faustian choice: the Big Stage & $$$'s against probably a raise at Loyola and a nice, stable, life...waiting for the DePaul or Creighton job to open up.
Lol.
Here's hoping.
This was always going to be a problem with going after a guy who has no connection to NY, he's not coming home so the family issues complicate things.

The other issue that he has no reason to stay long term if successful.

This does need to get wrapped up today with Moser and by Thursday if he says "no".

One of many reasons you don't wait until 3 weeks after your season ends to begin your coaching search. Your options are narrowed further in an already thin market. This is the last high-major job open, and SJU can't afford to be in that position. It's not an attractive enough job and is a candidate to get used as leverage. Needs to be closer to first job filled in a cycle.

Administration should have been ready to bring the Mullin situation to an inflection point the weekend after losing to ASU. Then either get the search started the following week before the Sweet 16 has started, or get the existing staff in order and ready to start spring recruiting.

The season ended a month ago tomorrow, to take this long to move on from a coach and hire a new one is ineffective and while possible, I'd be surprised if there are any valid excuses.

Would be very “SJU like” if Moser declines & Tim C says “never mind, Iona has been good to me” :)
You're becoming a local legend in Chicago.
DePaul will open up soon.
Think of your kids man!
Finally a coach who reads redmen.com.

Now it is being said that Moser loves Chicago and has teenage kids
Family may not be willing to relocate to New York
If that's the case, either he turns down the job or gets an apartment in NY like Mullin
I can see Cluess sticking his middle finger up if SJU comes back to him
We are consistent - we find creative ways to F up this program all the time
Long time overdue to make changes at the administrative level
We're not a big time program - we're a joke!!!!!

A guy like Moser saying "ehh I don't know" to us should immediately result in us rescinding our offer. Obviously in reality that would be stupid since other coaches wouldn't like that, but that's how disrespectful it is IMO. You coach at crap Loyola Chicago in a mid major league making less money and a Big East school offers you the job and you act like you can do better at Loyola? Is this really where we are? It should be an absolute honor to be offered a Big East job coming from his crap school.

If I were Cluess at this point, I’d tell SJU to take a flying F if they come back to me if/when Moser turns down the job.

I think it says more about our program and the attractiveness of our job than it says about him. Unfortunately.

I’m sure he doesn’t have to feel pressure from fans following a tourney year. They love him at Loyola. Our Babe Ruth didn’t get 5 years.

Good coaches win wherever they go. He has not. Career under .500 record. Flamed out at Illinois St. If he didn’t have one flukey run, no one would have even considered him for this job.
Twitter comes to Redmen.com Everyone gave even Norm a chance. Crapping on a coach before he even gets here. He was at the DePaul of his conference and finished first the last two years. Did you watch how his teams played during the final 4 run? Product on the floor looked a lot better than what I have seen Cluess put out on the court. But if it's Cluess will be totally behind our new coach.
I'm not crapping on him. I hope at 50 years old he turns in to something that he's never consistently been, and that's a winning coach. I don't care about his offensive sets, his defense schemes, his hard work, or any of that incidental BS. I care about his record. And his record, with a large enough sample size, tells me he's a .500 coach and that he's not all of a sudden going to become a .700 coach when he gets here. It sort of reminds of the Yankees in the 80s whenever they'd go out and get career .500 pitchers(Andy Hawkins, Ed Whitson, etc) and the delusional fan base would think that once those guys got here they'd all of a sudden become Cy Young winners, You are what your record says you are. Moser record is very very mediocre at best. Until he proves otherwise, I'll expect more of the same here. Oh and let me know if you want all the season tix next year, this hire(if it happens) is enough for me to give up mine.
COME on Monte - get over it - you will NOT give up your tix - you are a SJU fan for life - like most of the rest of us - like it or not
Go Storm
and if Moser is the man - GO Moser!!!
all the best
Wanna bet SSG? If it’s Moser I’m out, if it’s Cluess I’m in. I’ll still root like hell for the team regardless.
You can’t give up your tickets! I haven’t met you yet at the Garden!

That is a very real concern, and not something that I would or could blame Cluess for. In a way, it is disrespectful of how he's been ignored and/or put off.

I made the same point on the Cluess thread, but then someone reminded me of the buyout.

$2-$3 million for a MAAC coach is an insane buyout. I don't care if he didn't have an agent--how could he could agree to that? If this doesn't shake out and the buyout was the issue, he has no one to blame but himself. Sorry.

I know nothing, but I think it was the buyout. That bucket of $Bucks$ for a mid-major HC, along with the Mullin buyout, may very well have made Moser a more attractive choice.
Unfortunately, Moser may turn us down, something I've been concerned about when I first heard his name was in the mix.
Now thinking, IF Moser does say 'nyet', we may well go to Scheyer.

I’ll still be there, I’ll just bum seats off the guys in 114 lol Look forward to meeting you one day Tony.

It's my understanding his name was in mix for UNLV job, which also would have meant uprooting his family. Have to think that before he came here Monday for serious meeting with school on job he at least had preliminary discussion with wife and kids on potential move and didn't get no-way no-how feedback. Of course that's different than making the actual decision to move with a real offer in hand which he is no doubt discussing with them today. Agree that is a decision school should have required him to make in 24 hours (e.g. by start of business tomorrow). We'll see but for sure will be bad look if he says no.

It will be very disappointing if Moser does not take the job, especially after comparing his hire to Ben Howland.

So, let me practice another one. Ryan Odom could work. He has coaching DNA, a demands his teams play defense...
