Porter Moser
Yeah, sounds like he wants a raise to stay put.
Sounds like he may not want the job.

Probably a raise that he wants but he could also just want to make it appear like he’s not selling out immediately and wants to hear what Loyola has to say so he looks better when he bolts. I assume the former but you never know.

Too bad they couldn't have kept the lid on this until they knew he was going to take the job....
Can't blame him. But that would leave us in a lurch and not looking good at all. How long will Tim Cluess be willing to hang out there (if we are willing to pay his buy out in the first place)?
Not a done deal. Moser is a lifelong Midwest guy, with 4 school age kids, living in a nice affluent suburb in Chicago. SJU is potentially a high reward situation for him, but high risk as well on the personal front.

I would think Moser has to make a decision within the next 24-48 hours. The good thing about Cluess is that he can hit the ground running. No new house to worry about, no worries about moving the family and kids.

This is a tough one, I could go either way with either of these guys.

Spurned by Iona and Loyola Chicago LOL. Jesus. I was just thinking maybe we caught Porter at a time when he's at his peak coaching the past few years before he really gets discovered. I used to think many would kill for this job but this coaching search has revealed a lot about where we stand as a program. Many want to keep away.

Ok. I will take the job if nobody else wants it. I am under 50, don't have a buyout, went to high school in NYC and I don't have to move. Oh and I have been in a lot of area high school gyms over the last 35 years. Five years/ $5 million. Where do I sign up?

Weren't spurned by Iona

Let's face it this is no longer a great job. We will do well to hire Cleuss or Moser. The top notch coaches do not want to come here.
Did hear that it was his job if he wanted it. Seems to be the biggest hold up right now
Yesterday he was definitely the next coach, which is it ?

Give the guy time. Guy literally got offered yesterday. Coaches always have to think about logistics. As a SJU fan I’d just like to see somebody in place soon. I’d be fine with Moser or Cluess. Both have advantages and negatives.

Safe to assume hes got some solid intel into what’s going on. He was offered the job.
Frankly I would expect Moser will turn the job down. Cragg better be careful before Cluess decides he doesn’t like being used as a measuring stick. St Jean might end up with this job after all.
Good coaches win wherever they go. He has not. Career under .500 record. Flamed out at Illinois St. If he didn’t have one flukey run, no one would have even considered him for this job.
Twitter comes to Redmen.com Everyone gave even Norm a chance. Crapping on a coach before he even gets here. He was at the DePaul of his conference and finished first the last two years. Did you watch how his teams played during the final 4 run? Product on the floor looked a lot better than what I have seen Cluess put out on the court. But if it's Cluess will be totally behind our new coach.
I'm not crapping on him. I hope at 50 years old he turns in to something that he's never consistently been, and that's a winning coach. I don't care about his offensive sets, his defense schemes, his hard work, or any of that incidental BS. I care about his record. And his record, with a large enough sample size, tells me he's a .500 coach and that he's not all of a sudden going to become a .700 coach when he gets here. It sort of reminds of the Yankees in the 80s whenever they'd go out and get career .500 pitchers(Andy Hawkins, Ed Whitson, etc) and the delusional fan base would think that once those guys got here they'd all of a sudden become Cy Young winners, You are what your record says you are. Moser record is very very mediocre at best. Until he proves otherwise, I'll expect more of the same here. Oh and let me know if you want all the season tix next year, this hire(if it happens) is enough for me to give up mine.
COME on Monte - get over it - you will NOT give up your tix - you are a SJU fan for life - like most of the rest of us - like it or not
Go Storm
and if Moser is the man - GO Moser!!!
all the best
Wanna bet SSG? If it’s Moser I’m out, if it’s Cluess I’m in. I’ll still root like hell for the team regardless.

This was what I worried about. A Chicago guy, with a young family.
Totally agree with NCJohnnie and others; wish we could've kept this 'zipped' until his decision.
He faces a Faustian choice: the Big Stage & $$$'s against probably a raise at Loyola and a nice, stable, life...waiting for the DePaul or Creighton job to open up.
Lol.
Here's hoping.

Will the Three Stooges (Bobby, Joey, and Mikey) just hire Cluess already and stop making this program look 3rd rate. We are becoming an embarrassment by the minute.

Agree he should have adequate time. But in this context that means 24 hours. These decisions are made quickly when the match is right. We can't afford to let this linger on.
2014–15 Loyola–Chicago 24–13 8–10 6th CBI Champions
2015–16 Loyola–Chicago 15–17 7–11 8th
2016–17 Loyola–Chicago 18–14 8–10 5th
2017–18 Loyola–Chicago 32–6 15–3 1st NCAA Division I Final Four
2018–19 Loyola–Chicago 20–14 12–6 T–1st NIT First Round
89-50 50-40

4 of the last 5 he won atleast 18.
52-20, 27-9 the last 2 years, just is it possible that he's getting better players, and was really never a bad coach?
Look at how he did in-conference. IMO that’s better indicator.
