Porter Moser

As long as Oliva has this kind of power with our BB Program, it will always look like a dog and pony show. What a horrible way to run what could be a great program in the media capital of the world.

Before everybody has a s fit maybe Cragg is on board with Moser. How do we even now if initial reports are correct? You trust leaking sources or the press? Geesch let's let it play out.

Very excited for the guy who couldn’t cut it in the MVC and has made it to the NCAAs exactly once.

At least with Lavin and Mullin we were mediocre but nationally relevant. This has Norm years written all over it. Looking forward to fighting it out with DePaul for 9th place. Maybe a move to the A10 finally makes sense.

Cluess over Moser is a complete no brainer.

Yes, let’s hope Cragg is on Board with this hire if true. That’d be key to future decision-making.
But I do think Moser is the better choice.
Pillory me now but I think the Board will come around on this—if true and if Moser accepts.

Winners win. Moser had one flukey run at Loyola. Career record under .500 with a pretty big sample size. Couldn’t cut it at MVC and moved down a level where he’s won his conference one time and couldn’t repeat with the core group of players coming back. This reeks of mediocrity or worse.

RIP St. John’s basketball.

I do look forward to a new coaching search in 4 years and I hope different people are undertaking it.

Look at the bright side. Season tix will probably not go up much in price next year

I hope he accepts. He may not, being a Chicago guy and Loyola may counter.
Also hope. Cragg got a ‘sense’ as to his intentions.
The drama continues...

It would be in the best interests of the program if he stayed in Chicago.

What are you talking about? They are still in the MVC and he won the refusal season title this year.

Simple question- if Moser is such a good x’s and o’s guy, or recruiter, or both, why hasn’t he won more?

Good coaches win wherever they go. He has not. Career under .500 record. Flamed out at Illinois St. If he didn’t have one flukey run, no one would have even considered him for this job.

Twitter comes to Redmen.com Everyone gave even Norm a chance. Crapping on a coach before he even gets here. He was at the DePaul of his conference and finished first the last two years. Did you watch how his teams played during the final 4 run? Product on the floor looked a lot better than what I have seen Cluess put out on the court. But if it's Cluess will be totally behind our new coach.

I'm not crapping on him. I hope at 50 years old he turns in to something that he's never consistently been, and that's a winning coach. I don't care about his offensive sets, his defense schemes, his hard work, or any of that incidental BS. I care about his record. And his record, with a large enough sample size, tells me he's a .500 coach and that he's not all of a sudden going to become a .700 coach when he gets here. It sort of reminds of the Yankees in the 80s whenever they'd go out and get career .500 pitchers(Andy Hawkins, Ed Whitson, etc) and the delusional fan base would think that once those guys got here they'd all of a sudden become Cy Young winners, You are what your record says you are. Moser record is very very mediocre at best. Until he proves otherwise, I'll expect more of the same here. Oh and let me know if you want all the season tix next year, this hire(if it happens) is enough for me to give up mine.

He took a program that hadn't won 20 games since 1984 and won 20 games 3 out of the last 5 years including a run to the final 4, and back to back regular season conference championships. I'd hardly call that a flukey run. He built Loyola-Chicago from the ground up. He also has the #65 nationally ranked recruiting class next year. #65 for an MVC school is really good, and ahead of a lot of high majors programs. His recruiting class this year coming into an MVC school is ranked better on 247 than SJU, Marquette, Seton Hall, Creighton, and Providence.

You say if he didn't have one flukey run no one would have considered him for this job, but consider the fact that if he wins the MVC tourney this year (Loyola lost by 2 in the semifinal to eventual winner Bradley), and even wins 1 game in the NCAA tourney then he would probably be way out of our price range, and probably would have gotten hired by a Power 5 conference team.

Give the guy a chance jeez.

Porter Moser is Nate Oats 2.0. 3 of our last 4 coaches were flimflam men and carpetbaggers and the other one was in over his head. Let's see what a real basketball coach can do.

He's coaching Loyola in the MVC much higher rated conference than Iona plays in at a school the equivalent of the DePaul of the BE. Finished first last 2 years. Made the Final 4 at LOYOLA. Guess he should have made multiple final 4s at LOYOLA. Look no one knows for sure how any coach will work out. Prefer him over Cluess, not like any high profile proven winners at high level schools are a possibility. And BTW never accused you of crapping on him that was reserved for Matty Hoops.

2018–19 Loyola–Chicago 20–14 12–6 T–1st NIT First Round
89-50 50-40

4 of the last 5 he won atleast 18.
52-20, 27-9 the last 2 years, just is it possible that he's getting better players, and was really never a bad coach?

His recruiting still underwhelms me. 2 of his top 3 players were transfer (one a top 100 from Iowa State).
