Porter Moser

Couple things:

1) What is NM in the context of it gets posted on this board a lot and 'the computer' is hard for me.
Nevermind.

3) I was really kinda meh about Moser but when I saw Zag didn't like him, I knew he had a chance to succeed. Zag is a harbinger of failure.

Haha!
THANK YOU! It's been bothering me for months.

Awesome right.
I do not think Porter would be an epic disaster. That is a bit strong. He has proven some ability to coach. However, I don't think you can take him over Cluess.
I agree. Neither is a can’t miss and neither is a home run. We could have worse options. I guess my lean would be 60/40 for Cluess if those are my 2 options. Based on how low our program has sunk and due to all of our recent mistakes, we are now in a position to have to look for a diamond in the rough on the cheap. I will be open minded and wait and see what they bring to the table. Just hoping it’s not left overs.

I'm for Moser over Cluess, but I gotta agree there.
If Joe knows best then should have been AD
He was
And was a disaster
Well wtf is the top guy at SJU?
He needs to Joe to shut his f'ing mouth because you are not the AD anymore or to gtf out of SJU.
You kidding me, the old AD trying to have a say over the current AD?
Holy craps, only at SJU I guess.

If I'm Cragg I tell the top guy: "I thought I had full control of who will be hired, so why is the old AD having a say?
You better tell him to know his role by tomorrow morning, or I quit."
Go right back to Cameroon
If I’m Cragg and I’m not allowed to make this hire I leave immediately.
If Oliva is calling the shots, why bother having an AD?

Gonna say this and alot of people I'm sure won't like this.

If Joe (former AD) makes the decision over Mike (current AD), then how could sju fans respect sju?

Would be looking like a bunch of clowns there.

I would focus on the last 5 years as a head coach. I think some folks are worried Tim will be too similar to the previous coaching staff re. Offense and defense. Also, focuses a lot on the transfer market and with all the local ties never gets a top 5 all city player. I think, regardless of what was said, his buyout is an issue. That said, I would welcome him if chosen.

The one positive I'd say is whether it was last year during their miraculous run or this year during his CBS work is that Moser can talk. He can win a presser and interview. He reminds me of Lavin in having a way with words. Only difference is Porter speak hoops. Not in circles.
Put Oliva’s name in Transfer Portal
Just when I thought we might finally have a true AD,.........
St John's is truly a laughing stock
Shame on me, I should have known better after all these years

What is the draw for this guy? Of all the possible coaches this is one if the finalists for the job?
Wow what a joke.
Hopefully we get an answer by Friday
Thought Paultzman said sju will be closed on Thursday, Friday.
So would Cragg or Olivia still be there, sorry just not sure who's in charge.

I’m sorry to ask this but who is this Joe Olivia guy and why does he have so much say. I don’t remember this guy when I was in college. I’ve heard the name but never really focused on him.

I’ve convinced myself enough not to hate it. Recent success at tough spot plus what you mentioned. Would still like I know who else they have at least discussed.

What about Moser would lead someone to believe he can build a long term winner here when he hasn’t anywhere else?
I'll ask the same about TIM.
WHAT HAS HE DONE BESIDES BESIDES DOMINATE THE MAAC.

Please can someone tell me, what has he done?
Did he ever succeed in a major conf?
And, if he's all great, why hasn't another power conf school grab him?

I would love to understand this love fest with Tim?
0-6 in the NCAA vs 1,2,3 &4 seeds...you act like that's a disgrace.

16 seeds have one exactly 1 game in NCAA history.
15 seeds lose 96% of the time
14 seeds lose 85% of the time
13 seeds lose 80% of the time.

When you get fed to a top 4 seed every year then just getting to the dance is the victory. Sure it would be nicer if he'd pulled off an upset or two, but its hardly a major problem that he hasn't yet...unless you just want someone else as HC, then it doesn't matter what his resume looks like. You are always going to find fault.

As for the other two questions....well its damn hard to succeed in a major conf when you haven't coached in one. Might just as well say he's never failed to qualify for the NCAA's a the HC in a major conference. Neither point of view means all that much. The guy has won at EVERY level he's coached at what else matters?

If you know his story then you know why he hasn't been scooped up by a bigger team in a bigger conference. If you don't then you should do some research. Part of the reason he's at Iona and not a power 5 conference team is exactly WHY he's always been a good fit for St Johns.

Didn't think he was that close to Charles Minlend, but whatever.....

Seems like it's coming down to the 'cheapest' candidate, which Moser is, if we include Tim's buyout into his total cost which is the way to do it.
While that is a pathetic truth for a major university in a major conference to face it's because of the other $$$s we've had to and will have to pay out for coaches and it is what it is.
I'm also hoping this is not a 'face-off' between Cragg and Oliva.
If so, it likely means Cragg is a short-timer here and that doesn't augur well for future decision-making processes at St. John's.
I also would lay it out stark to Moser that he must be here 12 months a year and hands-on involved in the recruiting effort throughout the year. Otherwise, fuhgeddaboudit.
All that said, I like Moser a lot 'as a coach' and think he has found his 'formula' for success and has not yet peaked in the profession.
Whomever the choice, bring it on, one or the other, this week.
