I would do 4 things in the next 48 hours if they have not done already:

1)Call Indianapolis and see what the status is with Pitino and possible Louisville sanctions. Does he have a show cause and if so it's been 2 years since he coached would it still matter? If the answer is no show cause or it has expired then call Pitino see if there is interest. If there is still a show cause or Pitino says no then...
2)Call Thad Matta. Make him a quick offer take it or leave it. Assume he says no...
3)Call Mike Rhoades of VCU. Been high on him for awhile. If he says no...
4)Call Cluess. Offer him 5 yrs 10 million, get the assistants lined up and go...

I hope Deacon Joe can avoid following in the footsteps of his favorite player and even though SJU is closed Thursday and Friday this week and work a little.

Although, if the Admin nixed Rice how would it be remotely possible they'd approve Pitino no matter what the NCAA's position happened to be?

The only assistant I would entertain is Dane Fife of Michigan St. Think he is going to be a high major HC soon.
 
I'd be fine with Pitino at this point. We just offered Porter freaking Moser $18 million, and apparently Cluess is blacklisted. There's nobody else I really care about, so sure let's get Slick Rick.

I know for a fact Pitino wants the job. St. John's just doesn't want him. Unfortunately, I don't expect that to change.
 
I wanted no part of rick when this started bc of the various issues he’s had but he is the only choice at this point unless the ncaa says no go.
 
FWIW he just tweeted earlier that we should Mark Jackson so I hardly doubt there is any traction here. He is in the Euroleague quarterfinal with Panathinaikos playing at Real Madrid... again I can’t stress enough how much of a step up that is from St. John’s smh.

Probably is no doubt, but he's also in Greece and not in the States. My guess is a guy like Pitino would love the attention that NYC would bring.
