Pitino

I highly doubt Pitino would actually require an apology from SDNY to come here. That was his way of saying "I'm innocent and a victim".

Tom Bradley is a great poster and even a 1 percent chance of Pitino is a breath of fresh air right now.

Am I correct in saying that there has not been one report even hinting at SJU having interest in Rick Pitino?

I mean, at some point this thread just has to die......right?

Why when there are still dozens of posts going up on the Moser thread this morning.

Thank you. This is what I'm talking about. Not one report. People online driving what they hear as facts or what they want to hear as facts.

And I would add I would LOVE to have Pitino. Love.

All we really need to know is this: is Pitino technically cleared to coach if we were to offer him a job? If the answer is yes, then I'd take him even with penalties which will wear off shortly. I'll take Pitino with 1 arm behind his back over a bum from Loyola who had 1 great year. This program is at a major crossroads where we can either be even worse the next 10 years or back to the top 25 regularly. The best bet of getting the ladder is Pitino. If he isn't cleared that's one thing and that will end this once and for all. If he is, we'd be morons not to hire him. Just remember Bradley, myself, and many others begging for this when another program inevitably hires him, survives a week of bad press, and then goes to the tournament every year with 5 star kids.

I NEVER thought I'd say this, because if you look back I've said some snarky things about RP, but given where we are at, and what I think he could do to resurrect our program, the school should investigate whether there is a chance.

That hurt to say.

My educated sense is Tom Bradley is legit and offers a credible narrative. Of course his ultimate desire re Pitino likely will not fly at SJ, but his sense of recent history and perspective are valuable in my opinion. It is too simple to conclude he is spamming.

If the trade-off for hiring Pitino was NCAA sanctions involving a 2 year post season ban I would still gladly make the deal happen. Find it very hard to believe any other coach will kickstart a meteoritic rise anyway.
Why don’t we start a go fund me page and the donations will go to St. John’s if they hire pitino?
Are there really that many of us johnnies fans for this to make a difference ?

Logic, and plenty of hard news, tells us that cheating goes on in the recruiting game. Then there are the legal perks that big time programs have at their disposal. The last 20 years have taught us all that winning isn't easy here. Probably for a lot of reasons. So can a coach linked to a program with issues come here, with his hands tied and less than superb facilities, and win like he did when he had all of the advantages that he won't have here? That may be what scares some coaches off, except those in line for a huge pay day by coming here, or those like Rick trying to overcome an image problem. Certainly seems worth considering.

Pitino was fired by Louisville in October 2017, due to Adidas paying off one of his players. Was he paid off under his contract?

He is in the Euroleague quarterfinal with Panathinaikos playing at Real Madrid... again I can’t stress enough how much of a step up that is from St. John’s smh.
His lawyer is available 24/7 and the school has it. Big push coming tomorrow to get Pitino an interview! Remember when UNC was sticking with Doherty and alumni, former players, and fans demanded he leave, even with a jacked class, as they wanted Roy to come home. Game on
In one post you speak as if you have inside knowledge and what you say is in fact happening. In another post you speak as if it's just your opinion. Which one is it? Seems as if you're just trying to CYA now because nothing you've said has come to fruition. When this is over, and if Pitino is not hired your iP address should be banned. You're no different than the losers on Twitter making up stories. In fact, you're most likely one of them.
And its people like you that make me question why do I even bother, if most of the alumni are now happy with MAAC level play, then they should get what they deserve. I love going to my UNC games. So why dont I just root for my adopted team and write off SJU like most alumni have done the past 10 years. Thanks for the food for thought
I'm in no way shape or form happy with MAAC level play. I was calling for Mike Rice after year 2 to be hired as an assistant, followed by any assistant every year after that, we needed to move on from Mullin and have. Pitino would be great. But there's a lot of similarities between what you say and what losers on Twitter spew as facts is my point.

How are Pitino's statements demanding an apology from the SDNY and saying Jackson should be hired any indication that he is planning on coming here though? What are your responses to those statements by Pitino?
First you want me banned and then you want me to answer your questions? Am I understanding you correctly? Do you really think I should answer your questions after you accuse me of lying and spreading rumors? Maybe a simple hi how are you doing? we have never met before and I was wondering how do you understand the tweets and comments Pitino has been putting out there concerning the SJU position. Wait.. why on earth is Pitino even commenting on the SJU position, he never worked here before....hmmmm Why did he call it his local University that he has great respect for...hmmmmm...The one thing I do know is that a Hall of Fame coach, who has taken 3 different schools to the final 4 a total of 7 times should have bigger fish to fry. Matter of fact he is what 6 or 7 hours ahead of us in Greece, and probably in Spain now getting ready for a game.. Why on earth would he be commenting on SJU? Why would he recommend Mark Jackson? When i spammed or lied or whatever you want to call it that Rick Pitino was interested, most on here called him anything but nice things. It's time I take my ball and go home...

How about everyone take a deep breath. We're all frustrated with this process.
Disagree, but Respect each other.

or at the very least disagree to respect each other. :)

Hey seriously, Knight, you do a great job of trying to keep things calm. Thank you.

Maybe it would be a good idea to sell our souls to the devil and hire Rick Pitino as long as we include a reasonable buyout clause. ;) :)

I have been a proponent of hiring Pitino since the positioned opened up. The choice has met resistance from many which may be representative of what has gone on at the school. Hopefully the examples of folks coming around to the idea is also happening at the school. Hiring Rick Pitino is a no brainer and by far the best solution to cleaning up our current mess of a program.

And Tom Bradley you keep preaching. We are not done until someone is hired.

I think in the midst of this you're missing the point where I've said countless times I want and would love Pitino to be here. The school needs him. I just have not seen a single report, reputable or not, that this is even being remotely considered by a single person at the school.

In fairness there were reports of people being interested in coaching here and evidently that is not true. So I am all for the fake Pitino hope.

Pitino yes. Morals issues, ridiculous. I'm all for Catholic institutions having the right to hire and make policy in accord with beliefs. 100%. Some schools now even have a requirement for professors to sign a contract not to teach anything contrary to Catholic doctrine. I'm fine with that. St. John's however does not do that and in fact I'd wager that significantly more than half of all of the staff in every aspect of the University are not living publicly or privately in accord with Catholic doctrine and some like my favorite theology professor when I was there, are living (started my first class telling us he was an atheist) and teaching in direct conflict with Catholic doctrine. I'd say easily most of my theology professors were teaching directly against Catholic doctrine some on minor issues and others on a crusade against the Church (infamous Jesuit priest even).
Unless that is any different, Pitino should be considered in the same way that any other employee is considered. Is the University not hiring anyone that does not believe or live in accord with Catholic teaching? If not, then poo pooing Pitino on some premise of morality is nonsense and major masochistic hypocrisy.

Work with his lawyer. Make it happen. He'll be rumored to be leaving every season but make his buyout pay for all the "sins" of the contracts made over the past 5 years. Win-Win
