Our recruiting for next year

he isn't walking away from anything. it would ruin his reputation. this year is a bust...if come may we have the same roster, than i will worry, however it makes no sense to worry, speculate etc in the beginning of february...people need to chillax until april/may.

Good point; sure there have been disappointments and uncertainty - but remember the "super" mess Lavin inherited; remember we were becoming spoiled with so much good news so soon on all front (wins, recruits, publicity) and think about the time it takes to get any program rolling in the right direction;

As just one example, I recall PJ C. took what (?) a decade to finally get Seton Hall to the top? And we have so much more history and $$$ and the Garden and the NBA astute-staff going for us etc. Lets stay real. It's a process and we all need patience.

Lavin did not come here to lose or leave ship - "period end of sentence" etc.; he's a winner; he's magnetic; so albeit nobody (but the shadow) knows the future for sure but I say - we're in good shape in the long haul. I also would not want any other person to coach here than the one we are fortunate to have.

all the best

My +1 was not to Grant, but to the poster who fears he will jump ship. Maybe Lavin will right the ship, but I can't fathom all these posters who have such blind faith in him. They talk about him like he's some kind of profit. What has he done for the program to warrant all this blind faith?

People don't realize how close we are to being excellent. Don't go by our w/l right now. We have the first or second best freshman SF in the nation and a top 2 freshmen SG nationally. The rest of our roster is young also but promising in Greene, Pointer, Garrett, Gift and a too 50 PG coming in. People just don't get it. We add two more real good players to our starting lineup and we can be monstrous. We are that close to being a LOT better than people think. Yes his season we're thin and have some issues. Lavin can right it with a couple of signings.

I want Jakarr here, but if he doesn't want part of this, then that's fine. Lavin has worked his tail off for Jakarr. Again, there are still other prospects that can replace Jakarr that haven't been named yet. One particularly is quite good. Let's just give it time and see what happens a bit. We're 2 good prospects away from being excellent if nobody leaves and if we add 4 good ones, we can be dangerous.

Well, for one, he got more out of that team last season than Norm would have been able to in 100 seasons with them.

And he also managed to bring in one of the top recruiting classes in St. John's entire history, during his first full recruiting cycle.

A better question might be why all the blind hatred? The signing period is not for more than a month, right? Wait until then to bitch and moan.

And for everyone criticizing his modified schedule, feel free to post a copy of your degree from a reputable medical school on the site, and then perhaps posters won't be so dismissive. Or better yet, tell us about his surgery and where he should be, because you guys obviously have access to his confidential records.

I have an extensive medical background, and while I'd never share if I actually knew something, issues that aren't life threatening but rather difficult can complicate the postoperative course for quite a long time. The guy has coached one season. The complaints are really laughable considering we have six of the most talented freshmen we've ever had.

glad to see more and more people realizing the poor situation we are in. The blind faith being thrown around is ridiculous. Yes, Lavin is a known great recruiter but he has never dealt with a situation like he has now...not being able to coach.

Why so secretive about the recruit that hasn't been named yet?

Because people are talking out of their a$$. If there was some "mystery" recruit out there, there would be no reason not to name him.

Marillac says we'll be landing somebody this week. We certainly can use some commits...

MCN, can you tell me where marillac said this

You seem like a slightly less gay version of Rick Santorum with your campaigning skills. Keep up the hard work.

He suggested it on Johnny jungle. Don't know if it's true or just speculative.

Just know that some of them shouldn't be named yet. Youd think everybodynhere would want the best for the program. A real smart and talented big that hasn't been named is certainly at the forefront. Why do you assume that every recruit we are after has been well-publicized?

In this facebook/twitter/message board world, a lot of steam has been taken out of kids' announcements.

It is not uncommon for people in the know to learn the knowledge with the promise of not ruining what should be a big day for the player.

And bringing up that talented big man
S name would hurt how?

Not for me to decide. I just know a lot of people more important than me in the bball world know a name or two and they're not public yet. I figure not my job to start releasing exclusives as its probably that way for a reason. I just want some of the fans to realize that the names we're talking about are not the only guys. I love this school and program and I'd really hate to jeopardize what the staff is trying to do. I know some people want information at all costs, but I'm pulling for Lavin to build a long and successful career here. The names will come about.
