Orlando Sanchez

Visiting Auburn this weekend per Twitter.

I always thought Auburn was an odd choice of school in the running.

Calipari coached him on the Dominican national team. Aurburn head coach is Tony Barbee. One of Cal's disciples and best buds. This one scares me a little.

Ahhhhhhh! I forgot about Tony Barbee. We should always be wary of the competition.

Not to mention Barners are not the cleanest of schools.

 “@AdamZagoria: Monroe's Sanchez, Bourgault Going on Visitshttp://t.co/wqivAuqI #stjbb”

IMO we remain in great shape for Sanchez

I like that we're receiving the final visit. We gotta feel confident about our position, as long as he doesn't commit (to either Auburn or Providence) prior to visiting us.

I hope there is some truth to this rumor....

Hearing St. John's is going to be "tough to beat" for Monroe JUCO PF Orlando Sanchez. Red Storm can add as many as 7 players this spring.

I hope so too. Adding 7 players is great. Our style require us to be athletic and deep as a team. This years depth will be sooo much better. Sanchez has that length and athleticism that we're looking for. It will translate to what I think can be a very good team this season if all pieces come together. More than half our team could be top 60 players.

Per Rivals.com Auburn site on his visit which just ended. Said he liked the visit and enjoyed Auburn and as we know trips mid-week to Providence and then to SJU and will then make a decision:

"The coaches are great. I talked to them and they told me I was everything they needed on the team," said Sanchez. "They said they wanted me to come to Auburn and plan to win, and I like that because I don't like to lose.

"Auburn is pretty high because every coach that you talk to says the same thing, but Auburn says something different."

Sanchez is scheduled to visit Providence and St. John's in the coming weeks.

"After those two visits, I will make a decision," he said. "This is my first visit and it went very good. Auburn is a good place. I'm looking for a city where the people are really friendly, like at Auburn.

"I'm also looking for a chance to play. I can play any position on the court, whatever position the coach wants me to play. And I dunk everything. I like to get penetration and dunk, and I pass a lot, too."

Really?

So they told him to go to Auburn to win. Not to lose, but to win. Imagine that.

Did they tell Orlando that Auburn basketball is a black hole and that winning just doesn't happen there? Guess not...

There's no better place for a Dominican to feel welcome than friendly Alabama. Smh! Make sure you always carry your Green Card.

1986....St. John's seeded#1in the west...one game doesn't make a program but Auburn has the one up on us in head to head matches. Admittedly Auburn has been a blaxkhole since smith left and person went pro but they had some good teams in the 80's with barkley and person. Now if you talk the last decade i think we might actually have as many ncaa appearances as auburn has and an nit title

You say that like we are the absolute epitome of basketball success and winning.......
Actually, it looks as if Auburn had a better record than us last year. If you are going to make comments like that about Auburn, you better say it about us as well, cause we have had something like 2 winning seasons in the last 10 years.

I would love sanchez here as much as anybody, but don't come here and point out all the negatives of another program, especially when we are just as guilty if not more guilty of those same flaws.

I'm gonna assume MCN is looking at it from an overall standpoint and where he believes our program is headed versus Auburn's. Not to mention, Auburn plays in a conference which isn't that good. Whereas, the Johnnies plays in one of the top 2 conferences in the nation.

I still think that is jumping the gun. I think the SEC isn't that far off the BE. We are deeper but in the past 20 years the sec has six national titles to the be four. I think this sell is going to come down to the head coach not the team or the conference. This is, in my mind a real test for coach lavin because i think he has to outshine the other coaches

A real test because Steve must outshine other coaches!! Like he's never done that. Why do some guys on this board post as though we don't have a seasoned , successful coach? He sure don't have a losers mentality.
