Orlando Sanchez

I still think that is jumping the gun. I think the SEC isn't that far off the BE. We are deeper but in the past 20 years the sec has six national titles to the be four. I think this sell is going to come down to the head coach not the team or the conference. This is, in my mind a real test for coach lavin because i think he has to outshine the other coaches

So, you wanna go back 20 years, huh? We might as well go back 30 years, if that is the case, right? It'll be tied with six apiece. How about we go back the last 10 years? It would still be tied at three apiece. You see how this goes, right? Folks can place a particular time on a disagreement to make it fit their agenda. Ten years being the most recent is a tie between the two conferences.

Most basketball heads, whether it's folks with a platform or college hoops junkies like most of us, knows the Big East is generally the better conference when compared with the SEC. The Big East is generally recognized as the best or second best conference in the country. It's been that way for several years running.

What do you some of y'all expect from a fan (especially, a huge fan who rarely views St. John's in a bad light like MCN), on a St. John's board, when comparing St. John's to a middle-to-lower tier school from the SEC? Everything doesn't have to be peaches and cream on here (nor do I expect it to be), but I can somewhat see where MCN is coming from on this one.

Will we land Sanchez? Who knows!?! But, I certainly like our chances with him.

A real test because Steve must outshine other coaches!! Like he's never done that. Why do some guys on this board post as though we don't have a seasoned , successful coach? He sure don't have a losers mentality.

Agree.... I know not to take recruiting for granted, as anything can happen. I guess it's also a mere footnote who Lavin has beaten out for kids in our 2011 class and 2012 (Sampson).

I will work on my wording but the gist of my post was that i think we win because of lavin not because of conference affiliation and not because our recent past outshines the other schools involved. If you want to go back through my posts i have never remotely eluded to us not having a top shelf coach and have never portrayed a "losers" mentality about anything SJU. I think we win because we have the best staff involved with sanchez, not anything else.

You might be right. Maybe, he visited Wisconsin before announcing.

Not sure about Georgia, but good job by the staff if we beat Wisconsin. Madison's a fun place to go to college. I also thought Xavier was on DJ's list.

He was scheduled to visit Kansas State. I don't think they offered or he never visited. Xavier and Georgia both offered..

He and DeJuan Blair were both teammates at Schenley High in Pittsburgh, but I don't think Pitt ever offered DJ.

Thanks for info that has ZERO to do with ORLANDO SANCHEZ!

This isn't Johnny Jungle -- we're allowed to drift off topic here. :cheer:

I know! LOL! It is just that one sees a new response and we hope it is a verbal or better and it turns out that someone is drifting into the twighlight zone comparing an apple to an orange.

Hopefully, we're rejoicing about a commitment from Sanchez around this time next week. :)

Off topic, but Pitt offered Kennedy and then rescinded that offer after some time. Presumably the offer was to attract DJ's good friend Blair.

Kennedy was one of Norm's best pickups...he was available late and in that sweet spot between 100-150 where there are some very quality players to round out a talented roster.

Does Lavin take a commitment from Bourgault this weekend if he gives one, or does he wait until he has Sanchez first?
