Orlando Sanchez

All this talk about Hooper, and Jordan and no mention of Sanchez...I think he will help on the boards, which is always needed. Has anyone seen him play? What are his strengths?

Here's some video of Sanchez..

In the JUCO game he's #33 in yellow, in the summer league games he's wearing #24 in Orange.

I think we should expect a solid 6'8/6'9 rebounder that can block some shots and infuse a little skill down low and on the break. He'll be a great pick-and-roll guy with his big body and ability to stick open jumpers (shot like 26% from three at Monroe).

Guys on these boards like to get a little carried away with mysterious players and perceived diamonds in the rough. He's not an alpha scorer...he's not an 18 and 10 guy, but I am hoping for a Brownlee-like impact. I am hoping for a guy that fills some needs and makes others around him better.

If we get 7-8 points, 7-8 boards, and between 1-2 blocks, I would be a very happy fan. Anything more is pure gravy.

I agree with you!
He will be rusty in the beginning but the potential to a have a double double every night is awesome

I expect BIG things. let's remember, he is literally a man playing against boys. He has got to be hungry and P**sed off after having to sit this year. He could be a monster in waiting.

From what I've been told Orlando is THE most talented kid in the team.... I think we get more like 12 and 7 out of him......can't wait for Thursday

we are going to be in the top ten

I think Sanchez can be that athletic PF we need. Good in the glass, can score a bit inside and out. We needed another skilled guy up front alongside jakarr that has height and open court ability. I think Orlando fits that bill. People shouldn't get crazy with the expectations, but I think he'll be a bit better than the average HS PF for us.

Fom the little I heard he. is a next level player If the doe not score in double figures I would be disappointed

I think that is the wrong approach for Sanchez. We have two big scorers already with Harrison and Sampson. We also have two to three guards that can get some offense off the bounce...a few able shooters in Bourgault and Hooper...we need a big man with skill to crash the glass, throw around some muscle, set screens, and hit open shots. A little skill in the open court would be awesome as well. Sanchez does not have to score to have a huge impact.

" Set screens?" Wishful thinking.

The beautiful thing about this team is that with Jordan and Sanchez we don't need double double production from either. We have an extremely capable 2 guard to shoulder the scoring load, a good SF in Karr to hit from the top of the key and a glue guy like Dom who will do the dirty work to win. One thing I've noticed are how consistently good teams are always constructed well and finally we will see one next year. On providence Sanchez may be a 20/10 guy but at St. John's all we need is a 10/8 and we could be looking at a final 4.

Last season I watched O warming up before games dropping in threes, but the most impressive thing was watching him, Gift and Hooper sitting on the bench and shooting baskets, O made like three in a row!

They set screens, but a 190 pounds screener who can't hit threes is alot differerent than a 220 pounder that can hit threes. No need to respect Sampson out there, no need to even pay attention to Obekpa, but they better stay with Sanchez.

+1 Makes a big difference. Especially if our guards can get the ball back to him when they get trapped.
