Orlando Sanchez

this society of ours is too entangled in nonsense. is it really so hard to look at Orlando's situation and just show some dignity and common sense? the ncaa is pure joke at this point as it is. good luck to orlando, and i hope we get him for next year. imagine him with most if not all of this returning squad? and good for him regarding his academic standing, hope the school stands by that scholarship even if he never suits up. that would be a demonstration of doing the right thing, something the ncaa is hindered from doing anymore.

what if he assumed he wasnt going to get drafted. Can he not declare for the draft and simply try out for teams after the draft and pick the camp he wants to go to and decide then if he want to come back to school if he somehow gains eligibility ? Is that even possible ?

Not anymore. If he decides to tough it out and challenge the NCAA for another season and then loses eligibility he'll have to go NBDL or Europe for the rest of the season.

Its amazing that the Sanchez story has hit the papers in late February. Where were these reporters in NOV. , DEc , Jan ???????????

Great story; hopefully 3rd (4th, 5th what ever it is) time is the charm!!

I assume that, like most of us, they thought this would be favorably decided "any day now."

Edit: I meant to resepond to Matt105's post: Its amazing that the Sanchez story has hit the papers in late February. Where were these reporters in NOV. , DEc , Jan ???????????

Where was our AD? Working on the tan?

The last thing the NCAA needs is anyone snooping around anymore. I think it's in their best interest to just approve him to play.

Robbins blurb in today's Post. He has actually started to pay closer attention to this story. Maybe SJU hiring experienced lawyers in cases like this one has opened some eyes.

None of us know if Sanchez will ever play a minute for SJU. But if he does, every fan at his first home game should give him a standing ovation. He could have just packed his bags and left after all the NCAA nonsense. But as we now know, this is a very good kid and he will not quit.

Thanks kranmars.

"...Attorney Robert Orr of Pyner Spruill, who is representing Sanchez, said he is optimistic the NCAA will rule in his client’s favor by the end of the week...."

This is by far the most encouraging news up until now.

Good article and NATIONAL EXPOSURE.

Hope the NCAA finally gives this man the chances he deserves

As if the biggest crock of you know what needed more. From the article by Dana O'Neill

The bylaw that tripped Sanchez up, the one about his eligibility after the age of 21, has been, in effect, rescinded.

The change, however, didn't go into effect until August 2011, or a year too late for Sanchez who was grandfathered into the old -- and now deemed faulty -- legislation.

This should have given the NCAA the out to not look bad for once and do the right thing with no worries about precedence. I know it won't happen and that I am being too optimistic even dreaming about it but the NCAA could take the first step in fixing their horrible image by making Sanchez eligible immediately and only counting the Monroe years. Let Sanchez come back now for a miracle run at the dance and/or Big East Tourney and then let him come back next year for a full last season. Think about all the good "karma" and publicity the NCAA can generate to help repair their image.

Orlando is the exact definition to the T of a student athlete. A person that wants to use his basketball skills to get a scholarship to pay for his degree. With a 3.4 GPA, his head is in the right place, he wants that degree and basketball is the tool to pay for it.

Did Orlando Sanchez play in our first exhibtion game ? For some reason I think he played in that game. Exhibition games are not NCAA games .
