Orlando Sanchez

Just my two cents:

From what I have heard from a couple of in-the-know people at St. John's, it will be a long shot for him to become eligible.

If so, then why redshirt Gods Gift?

I hope they are proven wrong because the same group said he is a difference maker from day 1.

When they say "differance maker", are the talking about on the defensive end and on the glass?

Trust Moose when he says the staff is blowing smoke ........ He was not a difference maker at Monroe or the DR National team......so we are basically down a big mobile guy who would have improved the passing and rebounding on this team that does neither well.

The Dominican team had NBA players all over the front court. Even making the that team was a statement. And he wasn't a difference maker at Monroe? He averaged over 11 boards and almost 4 blocks as a frosh!

I was being sarcastic. Orlando is the player that can make an impact without scoring 20 ppg and its a damn shame he isn't playing.

Frosh? LOL!!
He was 22 and now we are worried he may be 25 or 35 or that he may have been a frosh in 2006 somewhere. LOL!
He supposedly is a very good rebounder and has great court sense but his absence and lack of due diligence by SJ really pisses me off. No wonder Cal showed no interest......he may have known something we did not.

if by cal you mean Calipari.... hahaha i wouldnt let Cal anywhere near STJ, a snake like that. Its not that he had no interest in us, it was the universities management worried about their image and a having a clean program that had no interest in him.

When I was in school, as the story goes Carnessecca (who still has major say) was completely against him, and firmly put his foot down.

I gather the poster meant no interest in Sanchez.

I gather the poster that Carnesecca had no interest in CALIPARI because he spread rumors that Carnesecca had cancer that was completly false.

No, Cal only takes top 10 kids. Even with all those top 10 kids, Uk just fell out of the top 25. Sanchez is quite a good player. I wouldn't underestimate the effect a mobile 6'9" PF could have considering his passing ability as well. Anybody who thinks we couldn't really use him now is nuts. He's a shoe-in starting caliber kid at PF.

What I don't get is why the NCAA doesn't seem to be accountable to anybody. Is there no time limit for them? Unless information was withheld from them that was crucial into their investigation, or whatever you call what they are doing, why is this taking so long? Sanchez signed months ago. I think I should apply for a job with them. Perfect for my life after retirement. A case load with no deadlines. Who runs the show there? Barney Google?

since he has already missed half the season if they decide that he has 1 year of eligibility left can he be redshirted and play a full year next year?

Yes they can and I think once we hit Big East play that is what we will do unless Sanchez wants to play. I hope he does get two years.

Not if the ruling is the age and the "clock" - 5 years to play 4. IF this goes past this season, I'm afraid they'll rule he's out of all eligibility.

The question is where did his college education begin and where.

If ruled eligible, he will probably only get what is left of this year. The situation, as I see it comes down to several factors.

If he started going to a Trade School in the DR prior to coming to the US, did that time start the clock on college? If it did, how long was did he attend? The age also is tied into that. The fact that they need to obtain records from a foreign country probably does not speed up the process.

Difference maker, star, stud or whatever, for selfish reasons we could use him. But more so, I hope the kid can get a chance to play at this level for him, because it is obvious it is something he wants to do.

Put someone from the staff on a plane go down get the info for the NCAA

doesnt every staff have such a designate? Like the director of bb ops or a grad assistant

It's proving to be a very poor decision by Lavin not to activate God's Gift. The team needs his rebounding, defensive presence and toughness.
