Orlando Sanchez

Have we ever been told what exactly is the focus of the investigation? Is it possible the NCAA trying to find a way to rule in Orlando's favor? How long would it take to say no? They gotta know they look bad letting the kid hang.

I think they just want to hurt st johns and are looking for a way to do it. I dont trust that ncaa-

why are they trying to hurt SJU?

I don't think it's a matter of them trying to screw us, I think they just don't care because we aren't a Duke, UCLA, Cuse, or Kentucky. It's like Staten Island after Sandy. If you aren't one of the popular boroughs (or in this case popular teams), then you always have to wait longer. I would seriously consider litigation against the NCAA if he leaves, because the NCAA is diminishing our product and gave the kid false hope when he was cleared the first time. They are now wasting his valuable time he could have spent playing and he misses out on playing time, team chemistry, and experience that can eventually earn him money as a pro.

What would the penalty for playing him? I think he only gets one year anyway and is planning on leaving school soon anyway according to Newsman, so he wouldn't be too affected.

But what would happen to the team sanctions wise for playing an ineligible player? I think at some point I'd want to stand up to the NCAA -- someone needs to. I'd think I might actually put it to a vote of the players to decide whether they wanted to let Orlando play and face the consequences.

Any reason Lavin or even father Harrington don't speak out?

It's not Lavin's place to speak out. It's the job of our AD. However, the only thing our AD seems to be working on is his tan.

My failing memory has this vague image that the first Dominicano to play in the NBA was a STJ grad. Perhaps a phone call from him might speed the needed documentation from the Dominican Republic that seemed to be the issue holding up the NCAA decision re Orlando.

Mayube the school should sue

I think an article written by someone who would investigate the NCAA's unfair practices and treament of kids might at least get some unwanted attention. It would have to be written by someone who would press the NCAA for answers. I am not on Facebook (dont know why...just not) so not able to FB Rubin, Weiss, et al.

I am sure the NCAA would stonewall the inquirer but maybe we could get some action.

Someone on this thread indicated that they spoke to Sanchez. Too bad he didn't he didn't share the reason underlying the NCAA review.

while i agree that i live in the forgotten borough and had my house been in manhattan, i would have much more attention, i would be careful comparing the two. I am as angry as the next person that o hasnt been cleared but people around me are homeless. In the end this is a game and shouldnt be compared to a disaster.

Some writer has to pick this up and take the NCAA to task. He's living in a foreign country and both his parents are deceased. He is competely at the mercy of the NCAA.

It's more than just a game. What the NCAA is doing or failing to do is affecting -- by all accounts -- the life long dream and career prospects of a good kid. That's pretty serious stuff.

without question what o is going throug is serious. Never said that. My problem is comparing the 2. Go over the verrazano bridge and get off the first exit fr capadano blvd. Drive down te road and go as far as police let u. You would change your tune.

Lets just stick to the topic and thats how ncaa is screwing o. Stop silly comparisons. Wish is he is there when i am out in san fran.

Relax. SI wasn't the only place to get hit hard...so did LI and Jersey and the rest of the boroughs. No one is attacking SI or trying to be insensitive. I just made an analogy which I think is similar to our situation with the NCAA. Big names get to cut the line and get all the attention.

You are the one that turned the attention from Sanchez to "offensive" remarks about SI. First, "suck" is akin with the N word, then using the word god is offensive, now comparing ANYTHING is offensive. People need to grow thicker skin methinks. Sick of all of this "I'm offended" nonsense. I wish I was alive in the 1950's when this "right to feel offended" movement didn't exist.

Anyway, I'm already seeing Sanchez as not ever playing for us. Let's focus on Branch because we know he will be here. Hope for the best with him.

how is it that UCLA gets a decision (unfavorable) then an appeal then a decision on the appeal (favorable) almost immediately from the NCAA and this kid who has worked hard to better his life is in perpetual Limbo still weeks later?

I am the last person to defend the NCAA but I believe the delay is at least partially caused by the fact they are dealing with info needed from a foreign country.

Let me remind you the ORIGINAL quote that started this nonsense... It's like Staten Island after Sandy. That was from YOU. I am pretty sure you don't have kids but I have 3 who are old enough to be sad that they lost everything they had. So sorry if I am sensitive. As well as I am sensitive to 9-11 comparisons where I was a first respoinder. I love this site cause I can get lost in BASKETBALL and not everything else. Called me childish but sports is my release and I like to stick on topic until someone goes off on something silly like this. It hits home. I never said anything about the 'suck' chant. I say much worse at the games as long as kids aren't around. Just could use a little creativity I think was the point of other posters.

You should just be a mod then so you can filter posts and tell us what is offensive and what isn't. Would be easier that way. We all go through trials and tribulations...and yes you are sensitive to take that personally. I don't get offended when people make heart attack jokes even though my father died from one. I know that stuff happens to many people so it's not personal. One person can say something intended one way and it can be taken 100 different ways. I didn't mean it in the way you took it. So I don't understand the hostility. Freedom of speech really isn't freedom of speech anymore in an age of "offensiveness". Wonder what you would think of sailors and drill sergeants. Or did that offend you because you used to be a sailor and a drill sergeant too? :S

I would think we'd forfiet any game he played in...but more to the point we'd be incurring the rath of the almighty NCAA onto every future case that goes before them.

The NCAA Clearinghouse should have done their due diligence when Sanchez enrolled in JUCO.
