Orlando Sanchez

how is it that UCLA gets a decision (unfavorable) then an appeal then a decision on the appeal (favorable) almost immediately from the NCAA and this kid who has worked hard to better his life is in perpetual Limbo still weeks later?

L A Times published a story that indicated a possible scandal at the NCAA concerning the UCLA recruit. The next day a favorable magically verdict.

I just feel frustrated and sorry for Orlando......I cannot imagine what is so complicated that they could not move more expiditiously.

It's getting ridiculous at this point. Remember when we were thinking we'd probably have him by the 2nd or 3rd game? It's now going on #8 tomorrow. I wonder what the hell they can be waiting on. It's been a month and they can't look at some paperwork and come to a conclusion? Lavin said SJ did everything on their end that was asked. I really do think the major schools like UCLA, Cuse, Duke, UNC slip by a lot of sticky situations because they know having them good is good for NCAABB. There are double standards...the cool kids (UCLA, Duke, UNC, Cuse) will always get served first.

Don't understand how the NCAA can justify this long a deliberation. Seems cruel to do to a kid who has limited college shelf life...make a decision...yay or nay...

Watching Sanchez on the bench last night breaks my heart; come on we're talking about a young athlete who's time is ticking away. If the problem lies in the Dominican Republic can't a St. John's rep go there to speed things up and try to secure any relevant info. How about St. John's attorneys putting some pressure on the NCAA. Afterall, what did UCLA do? This is not fair; could be Sanchez last season.

The NCAA is, has and always been a fraud. If you are one of the club you are in. Of course we will hear a hundred excuses, paperwork by the kid, the school etcetera. What is amazing is that this kid (like others) was recruited by many other schools. Shouldn't this be vetted BEFORE kids get to this point (maybe missing half a season) for which he might be eligible? In this day and age there must be a better more efficient way for the NCAA to fairly judge these matters. It is embarrassing. Business as usual.

i spoke to orlando and a friend of his tonight. orlando was on the verge of tears. he said there's nothing he can do. a friend of his told me orlando will probably sign in a couple of weeks to play in europe. he'd rather make money playing there than sitting perhaps forever on the end of the bench.

i'm sickened by this...but not more than orlando.

You just randomly went up to him? Where did you get this opportunity? And can we file any kind of lawsuit towards the NCAA if Orlando leaves because it was their fault they botched this?

So it is 2 weeks at most and it is over.

At the rate the NCAA is going with this, we can nearly guarantee he will go play somewhere else. The NCAA can take 2 weeks to turn a doorknob.

I would not blame Orlando one bit if he left and went to Europe to play. This is unacceptable by the NCAA and they need to be called out on this. What good does this do for Orlando's future and his family keeping on the sidelines? The NCAA is as corrupt as they come.

I got nothing but contempt for the NCAA !!! they yank young kids around like their toys and then they let their member schools make a complete mockery of College and College sports. Who's making college sports ugly , the schools or the athletes ?

This is beyond outrageous. At what point does the NCAA have to be accountable. They are holding us and Orlando accountable, but they seem to be above reproach. I hate to keep piling on, but I never thought Jamal Branch would be playing before Orlando. What a drag!

wouldn't an article of this injustice by a NY writer like Rubin or even the loser Robbins help our cause. If only the NY Times was really a NY paper (not the Conn. Times) an article by them might help the cause. Any reason Lavin or even father Harrington don't speak out?

My failing memory has this vague image that the first Dominicano to play in the NBA was a STJ grad. Perhaps a phone call from him might speed the needed documentation from the Dominican Republic that seemed to be the issue holding up the NCAA decision re Orlando.

Have we ever been told what exactly is the focus of the investigation? Is it possible the NCAA trying to find a way to rule in Orlando's favor? How long would it take to say no? They gotta know they look bad letting the kid hang.
