Orlando Sanchez

If the NCAA drag their feet into December around the time Jamal is qualified to start, and is declared eligible, does Jakar count this year as a 1/2 year? If he is not eligible can GG be called in for 1/2 year this year in his place? Hypothetical questions, of course.

Jamal only gets 2 1/2 years of eligibility because he transfered midway during his freshman year and will play after the first semester ends, sitting out a year. If he sat this whole year out, he would have a full 3 years of eligibility like Matt Brust did in 1985 when he left UNC midway during his freshman year. Bootsie Thornton also came into the school as a Juco graduate midway through a season, but sat it out and then played two full years.

If Sanchez (you stated Jakar) is declared eligible in December or anytime before or after, it would count as a full year. He could be redshirted to save the year but I don't see that happening due to his age which means if he is only granted one year, he couldn't redshirt anyway.

Gift can play at anytime this year, but once he steps on the court, he uses up the full year, even if it is for less than a minute. Exception would be if he was injured in the first couple of games (usually five or less) and that injury was serious enough for him to miss the rest of the season. He could then petition the NCAA for a redshirt year due to the injury at the beginning of the season.

According to the new NCAA regs, if you play in a single game, you have used up a year of eligibility
When Jamal plays in his first game, he will have used up his sophomore year
If GG plays anytime this year, his senior (and final) season of eligibility will have been used up

Does anyone know what the investigation into Sanchez involves?

Baldi mentioned that it had something to do with Orando starting a trade school in the DR after his parents died. He also said he heard the NCAA was waiting on death certificates from his parents. If this is true, maybe it is what Orlando was referring to when he mentioned something he thought he was doing right three years ago might come back to haunt him. Perhaps that started his five year clock?

Sounds horrible, right? To drag a young man through that again.

Absolutely despicable to have all of this hung up over his parents' death. Do they want Sanchez to get DNA samples of their bodies too? Jesus. Give the kid a break in such a traumatic situation. NCAA has no mercy.

They just pushed a couple of kids in Shabazz and Anderson through who have plenty of dirty laundry, but can't seem to get to our kid. I hope for Orlando's sake the NCAA declares him a junior, because they arent giving him much of a senior season if that's all they are going to allow him.

My thoughts exactly, if the NCAA is gonna take their sweet ass time, they should declare him a JR. It would be criminal to take so long and only give him a 1/2 year

I didn't mind, at one point, if they had declared him a senior, as long as he was on the court by the first couple weeks of the season. For instance, if he's deemed eligible in mid or late-December, and he's declared a senior, then I'm gonna be a 'lil perturbed. Not only would it be an injustice to our team, but even more of an injustice to Sanchez.

I'm now hoping he's declared a junior, if the NCAA screw around 'til the latter part of December. At least, give him 1 1/2 years, instead of a half year.

Humanity, logic and consistency are not the strongest of suits for the NCAA,

Sanchez wants to play as soon as he can He will be in the NBA next yr

Sanchez is nowhere close to being in the NBA next year unless he gets on the court and shows something. NBA doesn't draft JUco forwards based on message board rumors. At this point, the NBA is a pipe dream for Sanchez regardless of whether he wants to be there or not. Only way he is getting drafted in the next few months is if he gets cleared and averages big numbers. IMO, Orlando's best chances are if he is declared a junior and plays here 1.5 seasons. It's too bad, but it is what it is.

If you are UCLA, UNC, Duke, Cuse, etc. you can get away with murder. This just seems cruel and unusual. Why would they need death certificates?
