I don't think it's as much a matter of waiting to see how we perform this year. Any of their people around them have to know we'll likely win many more games.

I think It's more a question if they want to be somewhere else, and see what chips are falling elsewhere. We're like a fall back or safety.
Great, so the only way we’re landing kids is if they determine there are literally no other viable options? That’s quite an endorsement on our ability to sell. Yet people are on here like “I’d be ok with Kofi, precious and a guard but I’d RATHER have Aidan, Precious and a guard” LOL.
Maybe if we can have the team hold Bishop down while on campus until he gives us a verbal, will help Coach close on our first 2019 high school recruit. :)
I do not believe we should be above resorting to false imprisonment at this point, need to start thinking outside the box.

I will continue to have my doubts until we can actually #close on somebody. The mere fact is that 12 - 12! - 2019 high school kids have signed to Big East teams so far, with us securing a grand total of 0. Xavier has a 4-man class already. Why are we unable to #close the deal with any of these kids when they've known us and this staff for 3 or 4 years already? Nobody likes to hurt our feelings until the very end - that's what happens when you can't get out of the #FriendZone. Seems to me they aren't going to sign here until they see if we can win this year, or they would have already signed - so I'd get comfortable, will be a while until anyone signs on the line that is dotted. And by the way, our ability to win rests quite a bit on Heron's status, and as I've stated, I have no doubt we found a way to screw that up.
Shocked this is your position, have never heard it before. Yikes! :)
For someone who gets worked up over repetition, you sure do repeat that others repeat things...a lot. Does that count too or are you on a different standard? I respect you Paultz, but you seem to be a lot more snarky than I remember honestly. I agree with Windy and he makes total sense unfortunately. Paultz, please don't find a post where I agreed with someone and claim that I agree too repetitively!
Windy & I kid each other a lot on & off site. I enjoy him actually. You, not so much.

The staff has focused on some really big fish, and a lot of them haven't decided yet. There is a lot of competition for those players, and it should be clear that SJU isn't the favorite when battling the big fisherman with a lot more attractive bait to dangle. Which is why the staff is smart enough to play the transfer and J.C. game, and do it very well. Meanwhile, we need a 5 star player to lead, be it Kofi or Precious. Then everyone can quiet down until the first loss of the season. Then you can go back to staff bashing.

Reminds me of the scene in Goodfellas where Billy Batts is breaking Tommy's balls nonstop then when Tommy says enough, Billy says relax I'm just joking with you. Tommy tells him there's a lot of people around so not everyone knows that. You're Billy in this regard. I'm not here to be enjoyed, I'm here to post about SJ but people including yourself derail things by breaking my balls too much and others personally attacking and it goes almost completely unchecked and that's why I have to address it repeatedly myself and call it out. Thanks to the few of you who have stood up for me in the past, it's a brave thing to do on this board honestly knowing the dynamics. Just remember, I'm not the one posting wise guy gif's directed as insults/mockery towards posters and I'm not the one making personal attacks. I just respond to them.

Ah, a ray of 'hope' to smite the 'nattering nabobs of negativism'!:
Today, a rookie 247Sports predictor cast a 'foggy' vote on Al-Amir Dawes' ultimate destination!
It's now 75% UCONN and 25% 'Foggy'.
I take that as 'progress'!
One downer is James Bishop is still 100% 'locked' to LSU.
Well, we can't have 'everything--now can we?

Thanks Ray
Takes a lot more heart and hope and brains to boost rather than bash - whether one is boosting or bashing one’s own kids, family, job, team...
Go St. John’s!
Go Ponds, Simon, Clarke, Keira, Trimble, Figueroa, Willians, Roberts, Dixon, Wright, Earlington, Caraher - did I
miss anyone?

No one has signed with anyone as they can’t sign Letter of Intents until the early signing period which runs from November 14 - November 21. Prospects have given verbal commitments which is as good as the “paper it is written on.” Basically a verbal is not binding and prospects can and have changed their minds as some have done this year.

Even if we were to get a verbal commitment, any St. John’s fan should know it means nothing. You need at least two hands to count recruits who gave us verbals and backed out so we still would be nervous until the recruit actually signs an LOI. And even then we are usually still worry until the recruit actually steps on campus and starts classes.

The fact that 12 recruits have given verbal commitments doesn’t bother me except if we were recruiting any of them and we were on their final list as we are still in the running for several highly regarded players. When they are ready, they will commit somewhere (hopefully three to St. John’s) and it will be on their time, not on any posters from this or any other site.

The staff is evidently is working hard and hopefully it will pay dividends.

Hard to say we never close when you look at our roster. Matt is a top tier recruiter, whose specialty is the transfer market. He has definitely shown an ability to close.

The problem is that this is not a one man job.

Mike “Just keeps rambling” Zaun “and Zaun”

My wife doesn't post here, so the board is supposed to feel like an escape from a pain in the ass who can't let things go.

Our #closing ability is clearly limited to high school kids, not transfers. I didn't specify that but yes that is clear.

Someone also made a fair point earlier that 12 big east kids didn't sign, they verbally committed. Still though, when is it our turn? I actually thought someone a few days ago made a great point I hadn't thought of - that we aren't even chasing some of the kids with the realistic view we'll land them, rather we are "setting them up" for potential transfer acquisition down the road a la Heron. That would be quite an interesting strategy and perhaps not totally without merit given the transfer climate, where the rules will only continue to loosen allowing for more movement. Still seems to me we need to have at least some success with the direct to high school route as well but I don't really know what i'm talking about to be fair. Lastly, why the piling on of Mr. Zaun? I am fairly new to semi regular posting so perhaps i don't know all the history, but I say Let Zaun Be Zaun.

I used to post like 5-6 years ago and I admittedly acted like a fool and I was very disrespectful and said stupid things I later regretted on here. Not to use it as an excuse but I was in my early to mid 20's at the time. Got banned but thankfully Paul gave me another chance which he didn't have to do. I'm now 29 and I'm one of the most passionate SJ fans you will ever meet.

I have tried extending an olive branch to the guys on here, but it seems only 3 or 4 are willing to let bygones be bygones. All I do is try to discuss SJ hoops on here, but rather than people offering on topic rebuttals I look forward to with other POV's, they are calling me out nonstop ball-breaking with wise arse gifs/pictures, snarky comments, personal attacks, and say I repeat myself every post I make it seems. Have I repeated myself? Of course, so does literally every last guy on here. But there's a certain fervor to single me out on this forum and alienate me as I'm held to different standards which is very annoying. The reactions you will get on this forum seem to be based on who the poster is rather than the content of their posts. I too come here for escape and genuine discussion, but I have people coming at me left and right constantly and I've never been the type to just sit back and take it. Enough with the ball breaking and double standards. If you have something relevant to say about one of my posts, I'd love to read it even if we disagree. If you are just out to pile on with the other guys targeting me and talk about repetitive posts, then hit your damn scroll button. There shouldn't be high school cliques on a sports forum for grown men.

I am not informed enough to comment intelligently on any of this, but it would seem to me that if genuine remorse is shown for past misdeeds then bygones should be bygones. None of this stuff is nearly important enough in the Grand Scheme of Life to ruin anyone's day. Life is just too damn short. This should be fun, even for us Negative Nillies.

Some people aren’t harsh on others because a lot of the people here have met personally and are friends or have been posting so long they are friends. There will be a point you end up meeting some of these guys at Carnesseca or wherever and I pretty much guarantee things start changing. In the meantime if someone comes at you with a comment you don’t like just give it back to them but in a jokingly way showing it doesn’t bother you. If someone says they don’t like your posts just say something like “ you are revoking their free uber ride after the next bad loss “ if someone tells you to go on medication just ask them which one are they on that they can recommend. Etc etc. you will make them laugh and others and the other stuff will stop dying down . Just my opinion
