Obekpa refused to play?

i dont know what to believe, but if he "refused" to go back in, well, sit him for NIT, just like the lesson Harrison was taught. If he wants to go to D_League, good riddins because there are players there 10 times better than him stuck there ie: Brownlee & DJ Kennedy. Bottom line is that Obekpa HAS gotten better here and continues to improve. He needs to stay here and grow, he can be an awesome player if he stays to his Sr. year.

No, don`t sit him for the NIT. Get him OFF the team. You quit on the team, and possibly cost us a game in the B.E. then get the hell off the team you SOB.
We don`t need a pos on the team if he quit.

I'm saddled with the sad curse of being an SJU fan to the end. So just like I try to find a way to watch them play Wagner in November, I'll find a way to watch them play whoever in the NIT.

Wish it was the big dance, but if the best we get is a little twirl I'll still take it.

Yeah, have fun with another year of the NIT.
Lets see if Lavin could come through on part 2, picking up any good recruits in April.

Well here`s our annual saying: "MAYBE NEXT YEAR."

Thanks to the moderator who added the question mark to the thread's title.

I'm sure it makes all the difference, especially to the poster above who just called Obekpa a son of a bitch and a piece of shit.

I'm going to run with the idea that Obekpa did NOT refuse to go into the game yesterday, despite the fact that I was told that there was some sort of argument on the bench.

Having said that, if any kid on any team I ever coached would refuse to go into a game as important as yesterday's, with the whole season hanging in the balance, other than for injury - I'd be done with that kid forever. I don't care if it was Chris Mullin.

There is a great friend of mine who coached HS ball for years. A long time ago, Scottie Pippen refused to go into a game because the Bulls mapped the last shot for Toni Kukoc (who incidentally made the shot). the next NCAA season a player on Providence, God Shamgod, mimicked an NBA player by doing the exact same thing. I causally asked this coach what he would do if one of his players did the same. He decidedly said it wouldn't happen. I pressed him and said, I'm not asking if it would happen, I'm asking what you would do if it did happen. He got a little angrier, and said "I SAID it wouldn't happen." So I pressed and clarified myself saying "How could you say it would never happen?. It did, just twice in the last few months, in the NBA and college?" His response, now red faced and angry, "Cuz I'd stick his head in a toilet if he tried that." I laughed at his answer, and still mad he said "You think I haven't done that before?" Old school.

Did you see the bottom line? "We don`t need a pos on the team if he quit."
Did you see the "IF".

IF he quit on the team, then he is what he is and needs to be kicked off the team.
MainMan, do you like quitters who possibly cost our team?
I have no regrets saying what i said, if it`s true. If not then nm. Just going by what posters are saying here.

You're right. You used "if." And it does make a difference in a public forum.

So I think you're a mf'ing ahole if you drove drunk last night and ran over a border collie.

I have no evidence to supports this. So if it's not true, nm.

LOL You`re a funny one.

i dont see Lav making an exception for Obekpa if that is the case....we will see. Bottom line is, and i'll say this 1,000 times, winning the NIT is a thousand times better than going home after a quick loss. There are only two winners in March, yes its the NIT, but you'll see, there will be some legit teams in the NIT and winning it would be a really good thing for our program. I consider that an accomplishment if done. You'll see.....mark my words fellas

At this point do not feel there is enough time for him to develop offensively .Anyone leading the nation in blocks should also be up there in rebounds and with his foul shooting he is a liability

I Think any personally damaging statements or name calling should not be posted unless it has been factually authenticated and even then done with caution

Ok yep it`s outrageous. So if he quit then no biggie. Keep him on the team, so possibly if he did quit vs. PC, then maybe he`ll quit again in the NIT if he gets TIRED. HELL YEAH.

Beast, didn't know that you and Mike Rice were long-time buds.

PM me and I'll tell you who. He coached a bunch of college stars, and a few future NBA players, including some guys we know well.

I heard this same thing today from a source who is at the tourney and came to the site find a thread about it.

I am not saying he did or didn't...and the question mark is fine.
What I am saying is that there is speculation that Obekpa refused to go in the game yesterday.

So, the thread, although with a question mark, is very relevant.
Who knows what happened, who knows if it would've made a difference.
But there is enough chatter that it deserves a thread.

Where's Obekpa going? He is not even close to sniffing the NBA.
He has so much work to do on his offensive game.
Talking about any of these guys leaving early is a complete joke.

Wow, well we know this guy could never coach St. John;s. Why Frachillla just dropped his drawers and it was a No No.

An almost-naked Fran Fraschilla holding his privates ... isn't that as cruel as it gets?

It would seem that reporters always looking for controversial stories, and some of them reading posts here, would have seen this speculation. By now, someone must have called Lavin or someone in authority to respond. The fact we aren't reading about in the media, in a city full of cynical reporters, suggests it is baseless.... Or else our PR team must be really top notch of they can kill even the hint of an inquiry about it,

Makes sense.
