Obekpa refused to play?

Chilub on JJ said he heard from a very reliable source that the odds of CO returning next year are slim to none. If true, That would be a big blow to us. The Delarussa bros are descent backups, but I wouldn't want to see one as a starter. If CO doesn't return, it would not overly surprise me.

If it's true that he refused to go back into the game, good riddance
Speaks volumes about his character
Let him flip burgers at McDonald's
He's a one trick pony - he won't block shots in the pros like he does in college
He'll never play in the NBA
I'm not even sure if he could make it in the NBA Developmental League

All fair points. But the big question is who will play C next year if CO doesn't return? I don't like thinking about it.

Maybe the border collie that was run over if the bitch recovers from her injuries.

Are there any junior college kids available at this late stage?

I always expected the younger De La Rosa to get much more PT than he was probably ready for anyway, so I think he will start. I actually posted previously that I wouldn't be shocked to see him start if we went with a big lineup and sent Pointer to the bench.

He's got a lot of flaws and flab, but he can catch passes and send them out of the post as well, so I think he would get the nod. Conditioning is the key. Get his ass to the beach and make him jog on the sand all summer.

Send Delarosa to the beach this summer and all you will have is a beached whale. It will take more than one off season to get him into optimal playing shape. Besides don't they sell hot dogs and knishes at the beach?

Yes, you are right. No fat person in the history of the world has managed to transform themselves over the summer. How silly of me.

From everything I've read, the kid has busted his ass this season getting himself in shape and I see posters on this board making fun of him. And you wonder why nobody wants to come to St. John's.

I haven't seen Adonis play in person, but I've heard nothing but good things. He's a big body who has a nice scoring touch and a strong passer. Even if he is a developmental guy, he sounds like a good fit here.

So in summarizing this page, we have one poster wishing a life of minimum wage jobs on CO and another making fun of a recruit's girth.

Once again redmen.com, you never fail to out do yourself.

CO andSamson are top talents that have been mishandled. See the results for proof

CO came in very raw, especially on the defensive side, and he is improving. Sampson was BE ROY and is projected as a future pro. Just because he wasn't one (or two) and done doesn't mean he was mishandled. Few kids are ready for the NBA by their Soph year. Look at Nick Johnson at Arizona. Did Sean Miller mishandle him?

when are we not going to pin EVERYTHING on the coach ? Yes there are times Lav is at fault, but when are we going to hold the kids accountable for their own play ? C.O. picks up quick dumb fouls as does Sanchez. Sampson has been up and down. Im fans of both these guys, i want both to stay. I think they both have gotten better, but with that, they are both at least a year away from leaving. Point being, i dont think every foul, every bad shot, every turnover, and especially everytime we hear a kid wants to possibly leave its Lavs fault. Stop the speculation and lets wait and see. Obekpa seems to me that he was such a team player all year, for him to leave his "team" next year would be a shock to me. If anybody leaves the program....they are dead to me. Nothing worse than bailing on your team.

You're completely off base here. Not EVERYTHING is pinned on Lavin. Only the negative things ;-)

If in fact any problem exists between CO and Coach Lavin the most effective intermediary might be D'Angelo Harrison who can speak from experience about the best course of action for a player to take under the circumstances.

There`s only one thing q.

Harrison never quit on the team.
Did Obekpa? Well I guess we`ll see in the first game of the NIT.
You`d like to think that if Obekpa did indeed quit on the team, that Lavin wouldn`t have CO on the team.
If he`s there then maybe CO didn`t quit.

Time will tell.

@StJohnsBBall: Practiced yesterday. New look for him. “@gionysports: Most interested to see if Obekpa plays tomorrow. #sjubb”

That is so cryptic! It could be read as "him practicing is something new" or "he got a new haircut" or anything really.
