Nuri Leaving

Seems like only yesterday we were all feeling sky-high and super-optimistic.I tell ya, I need to hear some good news about our program real soon, and hearing that Amir is coming here in a couple of weeks, while welcomed, won't be enough.

Think W.B. Yeats might have been thinking of this season when he wrote: "Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world ...The ceremony of innocence is drowned."

and is it going to be different at another school. their fans dont want to lose and will critize a player if they dont perform up to their standards. When you become an athlete or perform you are supposed to be able to deal with the negitivity by fans and press, it comes with the territory.

Nuri quit on his team and coach. if some negitive posts on a college blog makes someone decide to transfer, what would he do if he is getting blasted in the newspaper. People on this site didn't turn on Nuri, they were voicing an opinion on the performance, if I see a bad movie I will say so that doesn't mean I turn against the actors in the movie. Hey people get cheered when the perform well and booed when they dont.

Checked out the link to SJU Face book & couldn't find my way to Nuri's "wall". ( My PC ignorance I'm sure), but did read Nuri's apparent explanation.

Seems like he's taking the high road out of town sighting his admiration for Lavin and at same time closeness/concern for his mom (On a health issue roller coaster in Philly?) as A reason to jump ship.So he's continuing his already roller coaster ride through college hoop land.

I guess we just have to wait & see if more "FACTS" come out between now & beginning of BIG EAST season. I'm reading into some of the previous comments about 0-18 B E season, jumping ship, recruiting worries etc. THIS coaching staff is to solid for fans to look at the glass as 1/2 empty & jumping ship shoudn't be in the conversation.
The quality of the staff & style of play has to remain a draw for future recruits. As always-time will tell-till then hang in there. In the mean time get out there & support good HS hoops in metro NY-NJ-Conn.

Where the hell have you been Rich?

OK now lets go out and get someone that can shoot jumpers and free throws can play D and can handle the ball well leading to fewer turnovers. That would be pretty good for the team at this point in the season

Nuri is leaving, lets move on. the only three concerns I have at this point is, getting Garrett and Cummings in here in a couple of weeks, having Lavin come back healthy and getting some recruits in here for next year to go with the players we already have who I think have a ton of potential. even if we bring in guys like Darrick Wood, Malik Nichols and a bonafide center that will be ten guys for next year and not a bad team and it gives Lavin a year and a half after he's back healthy to work on top class for the 2013/2014 season.

Sources tell CBSSports.com that academics also played a role in Lindsey's departure. He's been inconsistent in the classroom.

Interesting...
Two thoughts on that;

1) Could be that this is really half the real reason he's leaving. He wasn't going to be eligible anyway, and then didn't like how Dunlap was using him

.

or

2) Lavin or the staff leaked this to CBS to do some PR-management. If it sounds like Nuri is leaving because he wasn't going to be eligible, that sounds a lot more like an individual problem then a program.

I don't want to think the staff "bad mouthed" a player, even a former one. Or leaked something that's untrue. But I also wouldn't put it pass Lavin if he felt he needed to manage the stream of bad press lately.

On #2: I've been known to reach for the "conspiracy theory" on some of my posts, but that thought never entered my mind. Nothing in Lavin's demeanor suggests to me that he would ever do anything like that. I guess you can't put it past anybody, but if true, that would come as a shock to me.

Yes as a few recent posters have eloquently - or not so eloquently - stated:

Let's give the kid a break!!! Let him go peacefully and then let's get on with our own lives and get on with enjoying the new era in SJU basketball.

Get well soon Coach Lavin!

all the best

Ditto. No need to bash this kid. We need to just grin and bear it, and move on while we wish him the best. We have no other choice.

I know one thing, nobody can ever call us frontrunners when we climb back up to the top, whenever that may be.

I was just saying the thought crossed my mind. I don't have any knowledge of it obviously. But it's either that or Nuri is bs'ing everybody about not being able to play for Lav, the beef with Dunlap etc. And that certainly could be the case.

Maybe I'm nuts but between the Rise stuff and Nuri someone might have to take the fall for both........

I know that this is so unimportant or even relevent at this time, but lets say he is in academic question and may not have been eligible for the second semester, what happens when he transfers? does he have to start from scratch? how can he be academically cleared by the ncaa? just thinking out-loud.

Redken on Yeats

Was he referring to British or Irish basketball at the time? nice quote, classy site, let's enjoy the kids we have, I like the talent etc. it's too late in the night to be negative.

all the best

I was just thinking the same thing. Nutty ... um, I mean brilliant minds think alike.

If his academics are a problem I'm more concerned if it will have a negative impact on our APR. I have seen transfers mentioned in press releases as 'in good academic standing'. Not seeing that here so far.

I really thought he would have done very well here. I think it is a combination of a lot of things and the fact that we are losing hasnt helped.

I was skeptical of the Lindsey hype all summer and fall. Never bought into it.

In the long run, I think this will be good for us. Sucks right now to be shorthanded, but from a talent standpoint, Lindsey was nothing special. Guards that can't shoot, don't pass and turn it over are dime a dozen. I am surprised he wasn't mentally tough enough to handle constructive coaching, but when you have buddies telling you how great you are and stroking your ego, it doesn't help matters.

Phil G was eating up his minutes anyway, and has more upside to boot. Rather see him play through mistakes and learn.

Funny this past Saturday a close friend asked me if I knew anything about all the unhappiness on my team and players wanting to transfer?

I told him he was crazy.

Guess he wasn't so crazy!
