Funny this past Saturday a close friend asked me if I knew anything about all the unhappiness on my team and players wanting to transfer?
I told him he was crazy.
Guess he wasn't so crazy!
I've heard the same and also didn't believe it.

Can someone explain this Rise?
Rise is the Philly prep school that Garrett, Pelle and Sampson attended during the Summer, in attempts to qualify. All 3 got A's in all three classes that each took. The grades were not accepted by the NCAA and they did not qualify to play this year. Since the coaching staff, presumably, was responsible for placing theme there, some feel that they should take heat for the end result.
They weren't qualified to play the first semester, garrett went on to get his grades and become eligible. the other 2 decided on a different route. What could they have done differently?
What could the staff have done differently????
Not send them all to the same summer school for starters.
Agreed but Lavin has to take the hit for that one. Regardless of who arranged them to go there no way Lavin didn't know about it and he has been around the game long enough to know what to do with these kids. Takes a ding on it and moves on to more rebuilding
Still our 3 were the 1st kids ever to not get approved out of Rise I thought. That's just unreal.
With Nuri who knew. Cant predict what just happened with him it's so crazy
Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out the back-door... C - O - W - A - R - D.
And insulting a young KID who may be confused and making a big mistake says what about your character? Calm down, it is only college basketball. He isn't a pro player. They are called amateurs for a reason.
I believe they were the first 3 to not get approved out of Rise which is something many still scratch their heads about. It is easy to criticize in hindsight but there was no reason for anyone to expect the NCAA was not going to accept the grades, Lavin was so confident he announced everyone would be eligible after seeing their grades. As I heard a high school coach in Jersey joke over beers "if the 3 were going to Kentucky the NCAA would have made them eligible after their mid-semester grades were released at Rise." Anyway, IMO, at the end of the day, Lindsey is a playground player who didn't want to learn to play the game the right way. He listened to the whispers that he had to put up big numbers to jump to the league; created a conflict with the coaches and he bolted.
One last point, if one understands recruiting, Lavin and company were way behind the 8 ball for this year with the whole team graduating, that is unheard of. They did a fantastic job bringing in talent at the late date they started recruiting but they obviously had to take some gambles to do so. We got a bad break or the NCAA screwed us with the ineligibles, whichever you like, but we could very well have played this year primarily with walk-ons or non-BE players. Barring the BE folding, we will be fine in the long haul.
It appears their is more to the story than meets the eye. He said all nice things about St John's the staff and the team, but Lavin seems to be in agreement with the move?????
Absolutely ridiculous that Lindsey did this...What a total messed up move. I mean come on, Lavin is coming back.
Some of these kids...
MCNPA- GREAT Post! & last line would be a real ++++++ IF a spot opens.
Lindsey had it in his mind that he would spend one year here and then leave for the NBA. That was all the talk before hand and Lindsey pretty much confirmed it. He proclaimed himself on his twitter as SJU's starting PG long before he even got here. Once he got, he started realizing he wasn't George Gervin and that the refs werent going to treat him like it was street ball. Other schools wised-up because he really can drive to the hoop and they closed down his lanes after a game or two and he was rendered totally ineffective.
What we were left with is a shooting guard that shoots like Chris Dudley at the line and from he outside. Lindsey subsequently lost minutes to Phil Greene who wasnt turning the ball over, has a nice jumper and wasn't handing opposing teams 12 points In fast-breaks on terrible turnovers and walks every game.
I think Nuri had the ability to be quite good, but the gap between how good he is right now and how good he thinks he is, is like the grand canyon. Nuri needs 2-3 years here before even considering a jump to the NBA. He subsequently blames everybody including Dunlap, Lavin's absence and the coaching being "too robotic" as to why he isnt as good as he thinks he is.
The kid doesn't want to learn how to play real ball like footwork, shooting-form, defense. He thinks he was born-ready ala Lenny Cooke and we know how that worked out. Fwiw, I saw a LOT of Lenny Cooke in HS as well as a lot of other players like DeMarr Johnson, Korleone Young and scores of others twice as good as Nuri that didn't make the league. Heck, Dwight Hardy and Marcus Hatten aren't in the NBA and are light years ahead of Nuri.
Bottom line is that the kid is delusional and chose to abandon his team putting himself ahead of everything. Sad part about it is that he's just another dope with some fools in his ear who is doing himself a massive disservice by choosing to leave because he was actually learning how tough D1 ball is and how much work he needs to do to be a pro.
Tired of kid's like this. I don't think he deserves a "free pass" here on the boards. He deserves all the criticism he gets. His past tragedies have nothing to do with the dumb and selfish choices he's making now. Good for Phil Greene though. He's already better than Lindsey and will get exponentially better with this season under his belt as our starting PG.
Lavin needs to get back in the office soon though and right this ship. We have a bright future, but we need a BIG recruiting haul this 2012 class and we're waaaay behind the 8-ball with Lindsey now leaving. We need at least 2 big men and 2 guards if not 1 or 2 more, and we only have one wing on board. Need Lavin back with his health questions behind him otherwise it will be a ton harder. Recruits need to know he's 100% and ready to roll. It's THE most important thing right now. I know he needs some time to recover, and I'm a clinician so I know fully how these things work. If he doesn't truly have complications and it is a stamina issue, he needs to come back sooner rather than later. The team is struggling without him, and the 2012 recruiting class has no chance unless he comes back to full strength and soon. Need to bring guys like Gathers back in the fold and may be at risk of losing other kids if it is viewed that our coach is not going to be here in full capacity.
P.S. moose, it's no secret that you're talking about Tony Chiles. He was the Nuri guy and I'm assuming th Rise guy. How about a swap for Barry Rohrrsen? ;-)

No joke MJ (the Myron Piggie debacle was a disgrace). I'm tired of the free passes the 3 of them get. I can't wait for the soon to come days where my teams in red take out one of those three in the tourney. I'm patient enough to wait for it, and revel in it when it happens.I believe they were the first 3 to not get approved out of Rise which is something many still scratch their heads about. Good post, Logen. I'll also add a couple of other schools to the bold quote.... UNC and Duke.
