Fun second half and OT. Nice effort by most of the team. Good improvement from the last 3 games...

Yeah, I'm glad I went out to MSG today. Well worth my time. Very fun back-and-forth game. Would have loved to have won the game, but you can't have everything.

I went to the game today with my son and agree that it was a lot of fun. A win would have been great, but they played the way we knew they could. Free throws killed us, missed layups in the first half didn't help, and we need to stop dribbling the ball into the corner and getting trapped. All fixable issues.

By the way, Illwill and Usguard are morons.

Gift is just no good, he is just is not very talented or skilled. His hands are awful and he has no moves when gets the ball down low. I think the rest of the team has a lot of potential. I really like Garrett. I just wish he was a better shooter. He plays good D and is pretty athletic. He just needs to work on his shooting, which I am sure he is doing.

He has had some good games, but didn't get many touches today. We don't have much interior passing in our offense just yet, so he goes long stretches without getting the ball. Part of that is also because he doesn't establish any positioning. I'm sure they will work on that with him going into next year. I think he can be effective with another big or two to take up space.

Totally agreed. Going to a game, you just don't want to see an 18 point loss or something like that. We win most of these types of games next year.

+1.

You know what, I 'm done responding to this stuff.

If you didn't expect a team with a 6 (yes, 6, please transfer Malik Stith) man rotation to have a 10 or 11 win season, then your expectations are either ridiculous or just flat out stupid.
Throw in the fact we don't have a guy who's over 6-foot-8 on the floor, and WITH A 6 MAN ROTATION, can't over persue or platy flat out persistent defense because HE CAN'T FOUL OUT OF THE GAME has no idea what they're watching.
Oh, did I forget to mention you're talking about 5 or them being 18-YEAR OOLD FRESHMAN?

God....enough of this bullcrap. Of course it's a bad loss. Christ, my 11-month-old daughter knows that. Keep things in perspective. Wow! We lost to a 11 man team, comprised mostly of juniors who had 3 guys over 6-foot-10. I know.....a real shocker.

This is an accurate post describing our current team.
Did anyone forget Nova has 3 MCAA?

Well, it's true this team is young and not deep and no PG.. However, they have played nearly 20 games or thereabouts...  Many of our fans are concerned that a lot of the team weaknesses now, are much the same as earlier in the year. poor shooting, very poor foul shooting, little or no rebounding, which everyone knew would happen.. That being said, the Lavin Zone as played by SJU so far, has not been a weapon or able to deny the 3, often with open looks to the opponent.. Either these kids aren't getting the Zone Defense principles or,it hasn't been implemented as well as it should by now.

When the team goes man, they pick up a lot of ticky tack fouls.. Probably because they practice more zone than man.

Anyway, Kentucky starts 3 freshman and 2 sophs.. They are 19 and 1.. While it's likely Kentucky could beat a lot of NBA teams, they have 2, maybe 3 lottery picks.. We do not.. But, they are nearly as young and inexperienced as we are. Their results are better.

I think Dunlap is a good Coach. Keady was a Great Coach, HOF.. So, I'm as puzzled as anyone why the team's improvement has not been more significant as the season has progressed..I think many Redmen fans share this concern and, that's more a fact than a negative comment..

I also think a drop dead shooter, even if that player comes off the bench, must be added next year.. A Kyle Korver type like L'ville has had for 4 years, to go with all the athletes. I'm concerned Lavin's list seemingly does not include such a recruit.. Maybe, it does but, hasn't gotten any attention on this site or others.

Good post. I think the lack of improvements is indeed the biggest concern.

BTW, the worst team in the NBA would beat kentucky by 30.

Reread your post.
Kentucky starts two sophomores who played in their system last season.
We don't have anyone like those two. Their 3 freshman were all ranked much higher than Mo and DLo, who are doing great.
Our starting pg who was our leading scorer quit after 9 games.
Now you understand why Kentucky which has much more experience than us has a better record.

What a ridiculous post.
Mo and Dlo while not perfect are great as freshman.
PG had a very good game today running the team even though he is a combo guard.
Amir is improving constantly.

I think we have very good improvement from 4 of the 6 new players.

the kentucky starters dont have much more experience than us, they just have much better players

They have 2 players that played 70 games between them last season, we have nothing of the sort.

Kids played hard against a not so great Nova team. It is what it is at this point. Lot's more loses for sure this year, but hopefully the kids stick together and improve. A good outcome for this year would be the kids don't give up and play better towards the end of the season and feel there is hope for better times next year. This program is teetering. Getting coach back on the sidelines before year end would help.

Thank you, RMN.. i did re-read my post.. If you re-read it also, you will note I'm referring to team performance not individual performance... Can you honestly say the team's performance is appreciably better than earlier in the season? Some of our kids have had great individual games, without a doubt..

St John's should have beat Nova Today and did not.. The team did not function when the game was theirs for the taking..

That's a concern in my book.

As for Kentucky.. The reference was clear as to experience levels, etc.. Which I still submit is nearly true.. Yes, the 2 sophs were there last year but, they still start 3 freshman, one less than us..Yes, their players are better but, they are still about the same age,etc as our guys.

And, my point was simply that many fans here are excusing poor team performance solely as a function of youth..I don't think that can be continued to be used as a way of explaining some team weaknesses that haven't improved,i.e foul shooting, defense, etc.

We aren't teetering. We have half the depth of nova and took them to OT. We'll be fantastic next year with branch and some top rated PF/C's. We have no bench to go to. Kids played hard and pretty well today. More experience and depth needed.

The team is better now than they were earlier in the season. The opponents are just tougher. We would still get spanked by UK but we would not struggle against Texas-Pan Am and we would beat Detroit-Mercy.

I am tired of hearing about next year. I still like this group and I think they can win significantly more games this year and maybe be the team no one wants to play in the BE tournament

There is no comparison to UK! It is a ridiculous comparison. Kentucky starts 5 All-Americans. Two vets and a deep bench. They are tall and talented and play at a different level on sheer talent alone. When the Cats recruit players ranked below 50 in high school they are called subs.
