Remember, on this board you are only allowed to say positive things. Even if they lose by 50, you are considered a bad person for any criticism.

You know what, I 'm done responding to this stuff.

If you didn't expect a team with a 6 (yes, 6, please transfer Malik Stith) man rotation to have a 10 or 11 win season, then your expectations are either ridiculous or just flat out stupid.
Throw in the fact we don't have a guy who's over 6-foot-8 on the floor, and WITH A 6 MAN ROTATION, can't over persue or platy flat out persistent defense because HE CAN'T FOUL OUT OF THE GAME has no idea what they're watching.
Oh, did I forget to mention you're talking about 5 or them being 18-YEAR OOLD FRESHMAN?

God....enough of this bullcrap. Of course it's a bad loss. Christ, my 11-month-old daughter knows that. Keep things in perspective. Wow! We lost to a 11 man team, comprised mostly of juniors who had 3 guys over 6-foot-10. I know.....a real shocker.

This was a tough game to lose, but I think this pretty much showed what this team is lacking. A rebounder and a second shooter. Cant give up so many second chance baskets, it killed us all day. Now the good points, you can see how much talent is on the court, it is just young and inexperienced. On the last possession Villanova had the ball in the hands of senior ledership. We just dont have that guy who needs to take control in a game ending situation. But that will come.

Please all the naysayers, stop saying bad loss, pathetic loss, yes It was a tough game to lose, but they left everything they had on the court, when they have more depth and experience, that type of play will produce more W's then L's.

We need to stand behing this team win or loss.

Even the naysayers are fans. People, including myself, express frustration in different ways and sometimes they are going to say it was a pathetic loss or players sucked out there. It's not always the nicest thing to say, but let's be honest -- we just watched a team blow a 10 point lead in 6 minutes. It's hard to really butter that up with "they played really hard" and "they left it out on the court". At the end of the day, some fans just want to win.

Nobody who posts on this board is against St. John's. We all want the same thing. It's just that there are some who don't always feel like celebrating abysmal shooting, poor rebounding, and no defense against an equally poor team. Will the freshmen get better? Of course they will. They are going through freshmen woes, as everybody does (with the exception of Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant). But it is still a very frustrating process for someone who takes time out and spends money to see their team go through these struggles.

They needed a point guard, today more than anyone. Nobody has a good handle on this team, hopefully that will change with the addition of Branch and more experience.

no handle, you're definitely right about, but Greene was the 2nd best player on the floor after Harrison today. His best game in a Johnnie uni so far.

Good game. We will win these types of games in the future...whoever said "pathetic loss" is an idiot....they played hard all game and had a chance to tie on the last shot....not like they got blown out....you're a pathetic so called fan

rawdog.... The one who posted "pathetic loss" acts like he's a miserable person. I don't know, if he's seeking attention, miserable or both. You should see how he acts over on JJ. I'm embarrassed for an adult who acts in that manner.

lol...in what manner am I acting in? It's amazing how two words can make you so angry. I'm embarassed for your lack of manhood.

It was a pathetic loss. 10 point lead with 6 minutes to go, and we blew that. couldn't even execute plays at the end of regulation and OT. Pathetic, pathetic, PATHETIC.

You make it sound like a 10pt lead is so huge and no one has ever blown a 10pt lead before. Hell, Nova almost blew a 7pt lead with a minute and a half to go.

By the way, what D1 school did you play for? Or at what level/school are you currently coaching? You just seem to be knowing everything about the game.

Have you ever considered legally changing your last name to Naismith? It would suit you well....

It has nothing to do with saying positive things. It has to do with being able to critique the team and cite issues without the same dumb, over-the-top, harsh criticism of 7 first year players that are shorthanded in one of the top 2 conferences in all of college hoops.

Nobody who posts on this board is against St. John's.

Maybe, not. Some people who aren't expecting anything comes back to wail and whine about losses. Not to mention, the same drivel over and over and over and over about a youthful, shorthanded group, that happens to be playing in one of the top 2 conferences in college hoops, gets old. Quite frankly, most of the whiners usually brings little-to-no commentary.

If we made 1/2 of the foul shots we missed we would have won the game.

Good post...it's equally sickening to see posters throw around the "good effort guys!" and "atleast we played hard!" posts. That is how LOSERS talk. All that matters is W's...

We all realize these kids are freshmen, but that doesn't mean at this point of the season they should play like they did down the stretch today. It screams to a lack of fundamentals, bad coaching, and lack of offensive ability.

Yes, our kids played hard...but so does almost every team in america.

I turned the TV off at the end of the first half, because I thought they were giving up. Despite the loss they came back and competed, for that I was proud of them. They will learn from this, but the reminder of the year will be tough as many have mentioned.

It is one thing to have mostly all new players, but without a true point guard, it makes us tough to watch.

and that was the one thing that actually frustrated me, were the missed free throws...that's where the game was lost.. it's hard to control the rebounding with the size difference, however free throws are something that you can control...still love their never give up attitude and next year will be an awesome year. I think we will win a couple more games this year and i'll be happy with that

how is that any different from the same drivel that you spew on a daily basis? "These kids played hard !" "We will get better!" "Love the fight!!"

Those comments bring nothing to the conversation and are just as annoying as negativity.

Poor free throw shooting and rebounding cost us this game
A copule of more bigger bodies (ie: Pelle and Sampson) would have made the difference today

First post in a while, I had been away and haven't seen the last couple of games but I was there today. I am not going to harp on the things everyone brings up that are obvious (lack of PG, and lack of size), but some of rebounding is boxing out which we don't do. I also think the coaching is horrendous. I have said it all season, and people are starting to realize. With 24 seconds left and Nova no timeouts we foul their best free throw shooter whose trapped and double teamed? Then we take 23 seconds to take an OK 3 from a not so great shooter. Go for a quick 2 and set up the press or at least run a play to get Harkless or Green an open look.

Positives are Amir is starting to catch up and I see a huge future from him. Also D'Angelo, once he gets more help will be phenomenal. Harkless needs to be mroe consistent. The future is bright, just need to get some big bodies in here.

Completely agree with you. But St. John's is in a precarious situation right now. Nobody is arguing the fact that the team does not have the personnel to compete -- they lack a true pass first point guard, they do not have one player who can shoot the three point ball except for Harrison, and they don't have the front court depth to rebound and block shots. The fact that they are even competing with such glaring weaknesses is a testament to the effort being put forth by the players. But it's going to be very hard for Lavin to sell players like Sampson, Gathers, and Obekpa to sign on the dotted line if they are not seeing improvement by the players currently out there. And when you see Harkless virtually disappear on the court and Greene looking like a deer in the headlights with 20 seconds on the clock, doubt is going to creep in the minds of our potential recruits. What I'm really afraid of is seeing this team fall apart in the final month of the season -- because it's going to be hard to for Lavin to sell a top notch recruit on that.

can we vote this "illwill30" guy off this board?? such a douche bag that doesn't have an inkling of the game of college basketball and how it works. Can't grasp the reality of 6 first year guys playing, one who has only been playing 1 month mind you....he expects seasoned veterans by mid january or else the team and coaches suck.

You can take the "Looie" poster with him. There have been times illwill didn't know whether we were playing man or zone. So, that tells me enough about him. Not to mention, any post with a tinge of negativity in it, then he's all over it. He's trouble. You always have a handful of those types on message boards.

Some people are wired that way. They'll always see the negative even in the light of positivity overwhelming it. Whatever floats their boat.

They are in somewhat of a precarious situation. But, we (as, fans) have no control on what happens in the spring. I'm still of the belief we'll end up with a top 15 recruiting class. Not to mention, I do believe we'll see Lavin again on the sidelines before the season is over. I have no inside info on that one (just a hunch).

I also believe Harkless is capable of hitting from behind the arc. Lavor Postell didn't particularly shoot well during his freshmen year. Maybe, around late-December of his sophomore year is when you saw him starting to blossom. He even became a decent shooter during his sophomore season. I believe with an offseason you'll see some of these kids game grow the following season. Most freshmen aren't finished products, 'ya know?

Lavin and staff has their work cut out for them, but he was able to nab a top 5 recruiting class without the recruits witnessing the 2010-2011 team in action. Remember, those kids signed after St. John's were having poor season-after-poor season. I believe those kids wanna be reassured Lavin is fine before they pull the trigger. Most kids know about our staff and wanna play for a solid coach and staff.

We'll be fine. If we do not garner some of the kids who I truly believe we're gonna nab then I might start to wonder. Otherwise, I feel we're gonna be straight.

I'm always amazed at the quality of posters here after a loss.
Reminds me of when I lost a stckball game at the age of 10.
Do any of you ever go to a game?
Attendance today was 11,430.
You guys would have been embarassing exiting the Garden.
