'Nova Game Thread

So Dunlap is a bad coach? What did you expect him to do at the end, run over to Pointer and drive to the hoop? Give me a break, Or maybe Pointer just panicked.

First post in a while, I had been away and haven't seen the last couple of games but I was there today. I am not going to harp on the things everyone brings up that are obvious (lack of PG, and lack of size), but some of rebounding is boxing out which we don't do. I also think the coaching is horrendous. I have said it all season, and people are starting to realize. With 24 seconds left and Nova no timeouts we foul their best free throw shooter whose trapped and double teamed? Then we take 23 seconds to take an OK 3 from a not so great shooter. Go for a quick 2 and set up the press or at least run a play to get Harkless or Green an open look.

Positives are Amir is starting to catch up and I see a huge future from him. Also D'Angelo, once he gets more help will be phenomenal. Harkless needs to be mroe consistent. The future is bright, just need to get some big bodies in here.

I'm always amazed at the quality of posters here after a loss.
Reminds me of when I lost a stckball game at the age of 10.
Do any of you ever go to a game?
Attendance today was 11,430.
You guys would have been embarrasing exiting the Garden.

Some of 'em reminds me of this particular kid who cried two weeks in a row when I played little league football. He scored two TDs during week one (in a win). He cried the following two weeks (one of 'em was a win and the other was a loss) because he didn't score a touchdown.

Nobody who posts on this board is against St. John's.

Maybe, not. Some people who aren't expecting anything comes back to wail and whine about losses. Not to mention, the same drivel over and over and over and over about a youthful, shorthanded group, that happens to be playing in one of the top 2 conferences in college hoops, gets old. Quite frankly, most of the whiners usually brings little-to-no commentary.

how is that any different from the same drivel that you spew on a daily basis? "These kids played hard !" "We will get better!" "Love the fight!!"

Those comments bring nothing to the conversation and are just as annoying as negativity.

I rarely say such a thing. So, get your people right.

Greene had an overall very good game, Gift had an overall very bad game, D LO had an excellent game. This may sound cliche, but it is not the Ws that is important it is the experience and the growth of the players. I feel confident Lavin will get us a a couple of quality bigs for next year and this year will become a distant memory.

Remember, on this board you are only allowed to say positive things. Even if they lose by 50, you are considered a bad person for any criticism.

au contraire
Gift had an awful game.

Some posters believe you're supposed to hammer the team when being critical. I agree he had a poor game (certainly, on the offensive end). He was also the culprit of five charging calls today.

Well he is coaching a team that blew a 10 point lead at home, and looked terrible until the end of OT. He runs practice and they are still clueless at the end of games. He has had many tactical errors all season. Its time to call a spade a spade and realize hes not a good coach in games at least. Not everyone is.

He didn't board well either.

Just got back from the game...Very disappointed but NOT dismayed...once again our talent showed...We were attacking them and should have won this game (Nova is very soft). . .IMO we lost the game the moment we reverted to the passive offense. . .I don't think it was by design. . .just think a case of no PG...some of the kids got nervous and looked to get rid of the ball the moment they received it...

Missed foul shots didnt help either and I think Gift's stats matched his # (3) today -- 3 fouls and points, rebounds, assists totalling 3. . .

But, all in all, it was what you expect and want from freshmen -- flashes of brilliance that will ultimately become the norm. . .

This is the perfect post. Thank you for putting things in the proper perspective. This kids are young and will make mistakes. but you can see how good then can be and will be. This will be a special team, just give it some time.

So tactically who was to run a play Pointer or Greene? Both of whom are good ball handlers correct? You can draw up a play for those two, but could they execute it? I watched the Fran Dunphy interview at the end of the Temple/MD game, where he admitted he doesn't script plays at the end, because of his experienced guards, they can adjust to the other teams defense.

I am not claiming Dunlap is a great coach, but he has a pretty good track record according to some. He isn't perfect of course, but please don't assume the players are going to know what to do at the end of a game, especially since they are playing out of position. They aren't point guards, as they have demonstrated all year.

Respect your opinion, just disagree.

No I don't go to the games. I'm sorry I live in another state, and cannot make the 6+hr drive to every single home game. I know, I am a terrible fan and should be banned forever.

can we vote this "illwill30" guy off this board?? such a douche bag that doesn't have an inkling of the game of college basketball and how it works. Can't grasp the reality of 6 first year guys playing, one who has only been playing 1 month mind you....he expects seasoned veterans by mid january or else the team and coaches suck.

There have been times illwill didn't know whether we were playing man or zone. .

Now you're just making thing up....pretty sad on your part.

Not any more embarassing then our execution down the stretch today...

Oh, really? Those posts can be pulled up on JJ. There have a been a couple of occasions we were in one defense and you thought we were in the other. I'm done with this for today.

“I was thinking, ‘We’re down 10 because of our inexperience.’ Then I thought, ‘They’re way more inexperienced than we are.’ I didn’t say that to our guys. I just told them to tough it out and play each possession,” Wright said. “We have to learn how to do that. Our guys can’t be worried about the other team. We have enough trouble ourselves.”

Rich, I don't expect 7 wins, but I think a couple of more very important. 2-16 would be horrid. If our lottery pick kid could have hit a couple of free throws, we win. I would hope the kids think winning is life and death for all 40 minutes, and are rewarded with a few.

Pathtic What the heckly did dunlap say.t

Have you ever been to a game or do you just spend your time at home posting negative threads about this team every game?[/quote.
.
All my posts are not negative but when I see sub par performance feel the need to say so. Do not think I was the only board member who thought it. Also every game is not accurate but look at the record most games fit into it
