Norvel Pelle

Good comments BUT I trust Coach Lavin et al to recruit kids you are either already decent students/people or can reasonably be expected to blossom thereto (to that level of maturity etc.).

Most of the staff's efforts will work out for the best - I just look at what we already have in the fold!

At the end of the game the students chanted "we want pelle!" and granted he was behind our bench and I'm on the other end of the court so I can't say this with 100% certainty, but we didn't get so much as a smile out of him, and he then put his head down in his hands and almost looked annoyed. Couple that with his tweet while at the game about being tired, hungry, annoyed, and I just don't understand what the hell is wrong with this kid. I don't wanna cut my nose to spite my face, I would obviously still love to have him here, but he's really starting to annoy me now and part of me just wants to part ways with this kid.

Maybe he is just annoyed with the fans, the comments, this website...everything. He is an 18yr old kid whose plans didn't work out as expected and now he has a lot on his plate. Maybe he still likes this school and wants to be here (hence his presences at the game last night), and just wanted to get out and do something and enjoy a SJU basketball game last night without being 'harassed' (my words, not his) by fans trying to convince him to come here. Maybe he is just a very low key individual who doesn't like/want all of the attention. Maybe he wants to make up his own mind about what he wants to do, and not have to constantly deal with all those people telling him what they think he "should" do....

And to all the posters on here who are getting annoyed with him and want to part ways with him.....let's be honest, the only reason anyone on this site even gives two sh*ts about this kid is because they think he can help Saint Johns University on the basketball court. No more and no less. If he committed elsewhere tomorrow, people here would throw him under the bus and do nothing but post negative things him. No one cares or gives any thought about Norvel Pelle as an individual and person.

I am pretty sure that he already knows that we want him here. For now, I think we should just let him do his own thing...if he re-commits here, great....and if not, we should be mature and respectful about it and wish him nothing but the best of luck. Can we please just stop all the comments, stop trying to analyze every thing he does or says, and show some respect to Norvel Pelle, the person.

Why are you telling people to stop commenting on potential recruits to this program? Isn't that what this board is for? It's about st johns basketball or so I thought? Maybe you should go somewhere else if you're not interested. Pretty obnoxious telling people not to talk about it though. Somehow we annoying him by sme of our students cheering for him at a game? He's dying to come here yet he verbally de-committed and re-opened his recruitment. C'mon, SJU fans have a stake in this and Norvel deserves to be every bit included in SJU basketball discussion.

Agree completely with MCNPA, that is the entire purpose of this board, to discuss SJU hoops and everything that pertains to it. Personally I care greatly what Norvelle says as he could have a huge impact upon the future of our beloved program.
 
 Norvel is 18 years old. If anyone here can figure out an 18y/o you must be 18 yourself. LOL!
The kid's hormones must be raging and if he doesn't decrease his tweeting he may go blind!
As far as the weirdness about him, Norvel should realize that St. John's has a tradition with weird players. I would send him videos of Metta World Peace and show him how he could follow in those golden footsteps and maybe he too could be a contestant with a hot dancer on "Dancing With the Stars" one day! 
 
It was mentioned on one of the sites that the young man was interested in majoring in art. so I'm not surprised that he is not your typical recruit couple this with being 6-9 or 6-10 and being 3000 miles from home as well as being 19 year old get him a pass from me

 Art was last month. This month, Norvel told us he wanted to get involved with law. I sent him the SJ's criminology link to look at the syllabus. :silly:

Our stake is as fans of this school and interest in the basketball program. I'm a season ticket holder and fan like everybody else. Nothing more. These boards exist because we're fans of the bball program and school. I suppose you're not interested in that. You certainly have a hankering for telling other people what to think about and talk about. Should we should not only stop talking about Norvel, but the rest of our potential recruits as well and juts get rid of the recruiting section? Maybe you should find another site that aligns with your interests a bit more closely?

I agree with Marcus. I am sick and tired of people telling other people what to post about and think that anyone who tells anyone else what is or is not appropriate to post about should not be permitted to post such inappropriate comments.

Consider this case here. A group of adults were quite reasonably psychoanalyzing a complete stranger based on his ebonic tweetings and quite reasonable concluding that he suffered from nascissitic personality disorder and other mental health issues that would prevent him from ever participating in division one basketball. Personally I think its a good thing that we learned this now that he has reopened his recruiting, as opposed to several months ago when he was still eligible and one of our top recruits who was going to lead us to a national championship, because it would have been a great disappointment to us back then, whereas now it serves him right. Then this Peanuts fellow jumps and and says hey maybe Pelle broke up whith his girlfriend or had a bad hotdog on the train or is reacting to some event in his life that has absolutely nothing to do with basketball, which is absurd, because BB is all this kid thinks about or knows about based upon my in depth analysis of his myspace profile, so much so that his every facial tic is an intimate expression of his feelings about his recruitment. Then Peanuts had the unmitigated gall to suggest that posters "show some respect to Norvelle" which is completely presumptuous and stupid. At which point Marcus quite reasonaly told him that his posts questioning the appropriateness of other peoples posts were so inappropriate that he should never post here agin, although since he did it in the form of a question maybe it's not so dissonant cognitively that anyone will notice the irony?

To recap:

Norvelle: seek counselling before it is too late.

Peanuts: get the hell out

Hmmm sounds like somebody else on these boards... Fun, you're just as guilty of immaturity as the rest of us. Your bread and butter is combing through the nooks and crannies of other total stranger's posts and googling your way to a psychoanalytical prose masterpieces. I do give credit. As mean-spirited and annoying as you can be, they really are masterpieces. Just don't pretend to be any more mature and reasonable than the rest of us. 

I get your drift though. Being trapped in the house with two toddlers, there's plenty of time to toil and ponder the tweets of our recruits. Overall, I'm just curious where Norvel is heading. 
 
Just out of curiosity, have the fans from here who have been following his tweets ever tried talking to him on Twitter, or is that against some type of recruiting rules?

 That is correct, the proposal is football only and move to Big West (from Mountain West) for basketball and other sports. Many SDSU fans are questioning whether or not this is even a good move.

FYI, SDSU just lost four starters and is considered to be in a rebuilding year, however, they just beat Arizona in Tucson 61-57. They started off the game with a 21-4 lead and Arizona could never get back in the lead. UA Shot 33% in FG%.

SDSU just broke UA's 22 game home winning streak and has beaten PAC-12 teams 7 straight times.

SDSU is now 6-1 and has upcoming games against an undefeated UC Santa Barbara team, an undefeated top 25 team in Creighton, and then a top 25 team with Cal. 
 
I'm here neither to bury nor to praise Norvel but I must admit that I find him an interesting and enigmatic young man.

At the St. Francis game I noticed this black-hooded figure sitting in the third row behind the SJU bench crouched over during the first half whose head was stationary and rarely moved left and right - the natural swivel of someone following the action on court.

At half time I was told it was Pelle. 

He stayed for the rest of the game and when I occasionally glanced in his direction his head remained both crouched and for the most part stationary.

I couldn't help but wonder what he was doing (unless he enjoys panoramic vision through his eye movements) at the game.

The only human being I know capable of offering a persuasive analysis of such idiosyncratic behavior is fun and I hereby appeal to him for an explanation.

Fair enough but not everyone was bashing him.
Many were wishing him the best all the while hoping he will sign with SJU.
Then there are of course the fans who are very disappointed he has reopened his recruiting.
But should they not be disappointed, he is the one player we desperately need to make us more complete.
