Have to be 3 years out of HS school class to enter draft NFL rule upheld in court. Maurice Clarret OSU running back challenged in court and lost. No one has tried to challenge since.
So you're saying the court wouldn't let him play professionally in the NFL because he night get a boo boo at such a young age, but he can get paralyzed, a la Darryl Stingley, 3 moths after his High School graduation. And neither the COURT nor the parents have a problem with this.
What a country.

Did anyone see the pregame before the Michigan game today ? They went on a tour of their new team facilities in including locker room. Holy cow it was mind boggling. They have a golf simulator in it ( for the football team )

This is the mindset what we are up against when we compete against Power 5 conferences for players.
Well that's hardly worth it. Having spent my entire life in the northeast (New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts), we've never dealt with this. The schools up here here educate. We've always been surrounded by the finest schools at all levels. My kids and grandkids wouldn't know Friday night lights from Saturday Night Live,

It's the only game in town that helps attract the alums to pony up. Someone I worked with went to Oklahoma and told me about the "donations" he saw when he was working in athletic office. The good old boys would help feed the players by donating steers for the team to have the finest beef. Also donations determined seating (and being able to buy them).

Big deal. I heard our new facility will have 2 of these

Here's a recent example of dual names:

Wow, those are sweet. The world is not a fair place.

Yeah, I. also noticed the importance they put on education. It's funny how you are where you grew. I grew up in the South Bronx. Friday night lights was stickball.

I hear you and I've met them. I pretty sure we're now ranked around 23rd in the country in education. I bring this up since I spent a good part of my life in London, where I was fortunate enough to work for a Lloyds' syndicate. They probably saw more of me than any transient American they
met as there are loads of Americans who permanently live there. They'd always ask for good stories. One of their favorites is that some kids go to school here because they are good ball players and its free.

Most schools make a conference move to get more television revenue, not less. But SMU just wanted a seat at the table. SMU's chairman of the board, David Miller, fired his metaphorical six-shooter in the air when he explained how the program could go without television revenue for nine years: The money didn't matter to them.

"It's a couple hundred million dollars," Miller told Yahoo. "I'm not losing sleep over it."
Wouldn't you love to know how much they contribute to Danny Thomas' fund.

This is the most laughs I've had on a saturday in forever. Great post Panther, nice to meet you. My son-in-law is an attorney and has been talking about this topic for weeks. ( It's the only topic in Connecticut ) and judging by today's paper, Hurley should be in LA right now . See if this sounds logical. Say the state schools go their way and lay their hand down. They play some games against non-power schools, correct? Ok, for some reason they'd like to include us, as they know it would look since we're won 5 of the last 9 titles. BC is playing Dayton today. There are probably some other rivals not coming to mind right now (you can tell i watch zero football) that have Power schools playing shitty non power schools. If not can think of quite a few that ain't getting invited to the Selfish 3. What if the Selfish 3 approach only us to save face and not piss away a boatload of money since we still have some good value.

You understand how a CBA works I assume.

NBA has a similar rule that you have to be out of High School for one year and be at least 19 to play in the NBA (different for foreign players). It is in both leagues Collective Bargaining Agreement so courts are not striking that down.

That's Pitino talk. He pumps up his good friend. No problem, that's cool.
"SJU and the basketball team needs all the money it can get.

This makes us sound destitute. I sent in by far my largest donation last year in recognition of the stances taken by the school, yet I'll bet that's a pittance compared to the donations of BEAST OF THE EAST and JERSEY SHORE JOHNNY's of this board.
I've seen numbers on endowments and other figures for the conference schools, with the highest for us being 4th.
We'll never be Georgetown nor will we aspire to be. I go back as far as when SJU was a commuter school. Take a walk around that campus now it's like walking through DisneyWorld to me.

Endowments have nothing to do with the basketball program. Our board still has many people on it who do not prioritize basketball nor do they think that it should (probably rightfully so, much to the chagrin of us on this board) be financially prioritized over academics and the programs that cultivate the bright minds of the future. Hence the campus upgrades you reference etc.

NIL wise SJU is in the top half of the Big East. Are they destitute? No. Are they flush, no. Too many people continue to believe that Repole is bank rolling the program. Just not true. He's helping for sure and we are very lucky to have him on board.

College basketball is trending (unfortunately) into a world where every year you're going to need a million dollars more than the year before. The top programs in the country right now have over $7 million in NIL budget. It's an uphill climb for SJU.

So yea the basketball program needs every dollar they can muster.

The 3 year rule in football is a good one.
The physical difference between the NFL and college is absolutely shocking.

The amount of players that come out after their junior year and have injury-shortened careers is eye-opening.

Nobody knows that better than Giants fans…David Wilson drafted in the first round didn’t make it 2 seasons. Hakeem Nicks was unbelievable early and out of the league by 27. Manninghan, Steve Smith, Reuben Randle, etc. Even Landon Collins, who was incredible early, wasn’t the same at age 25 and out the league at 27.

But what about the Rutgers charity exhibition? Not as exciting as The Real Ray's Pizza Carnesecca Arena, RFK and NIL, but we have created a whole thread for it. Have there been any announcement regarding broadcasting of the game?
