Niagara, Wed. Dec. 9, 5pm, FS1 & 970AM

I'm predicting a much better performance against Syracuse. Remember where you heard it first!

I heard it first from Lavin on the post game show. Thinks we are catching Syracuse at the right time. That's what worries me.

Being out coached tonight.

Really? Niagara stunk, they stunk a little more than we did in as ugly and poorly played game by both teams as there can be. Casey did nothing to distinguish himself, neither did Mullin because pretty much every player on the court stunk except for maybe Balamou's 1st half but he got in the spirit snd stunk in the 2nd half.

It won't happen, but if we're fortunate enough to get LoVett eligible and Ellison heals up, I'd be interested in throwing an all-freshman starting 5 of LoVett, Mussini, Ellison, Yakwe & Sima into the fire and getting them ready for next year. Durand Johnson isn't helping us stay competitive and although I appreciate Christian working hard, I value the other guys gaining experience more. I like what Mvouika has been doing but he can do it off the bench. Is starting 5 freshman crazy?

No it is not and personally I think you make a great deal of sense. Durand , Ron M and Felix are all gone after this season, Jones has one more season to play if he sticks around, Amar got Lavin nice trips to Europe but has exhibited zero on the court and Williams is injured. Let the freshmen play and bring the others off the bench. It would be a good sell for recruiting purposes too showing that the staff is prepared to experiment and play freshmen. I like it.

This game can't end soon enough.

This season can't end soon enough.

I'm actually enjoying this season. Instead of watching great athletes underachieve like the past 2 years, I am watching OK athletes eke out wins against mediocre opponents. Mullin and staff had little time, but recruited some nice floor tiles and window treatments. Next year, the foundation gets built and the roof and walls go up, and the year after the finishes are done and we go dancing. That may be a backwards way to build a house, but when you had a contractor that quit on the job just after digging the hole, somebody had to clean up his mess. And it's not always pretty.

I thought the press and the way they executed it was good. We have guys that don't know when they can move their feet on an inbound. Our guys look at each other not knowing who is going to throw the ball in. Ridiculous.

tried to think of "nice" things to say about this game. It was tough other than the three obvious: 1) W ... 2) Yakwe got some more game experience 3) ...No injuries?

It was a stinker and under some past regimes we would have found a way to lose. I'm thinking that this young crew completely fell into the trap game looking ahead to Syracuse at MSG. It is not logical for this team and they were probably told repeatedly not to look past Niagara, but it is natural. We are fortunate to just move forward and take the W that we should have gotten, and most likely take the L that everyone (Except Steve Lavin) had penciled in for Sunday. A win would be fantastic but not getting embarrassed would be a good sign.

Few things about Mullin tonight.

Right around the first TV timeout, Rohrssen said something to him ( I think it was regarding Johnson's lack of hustle getting back on a break). Chris yanked him like whiplash.

Camera on him during in bounds play or free throw at Niagara's end, not sure which.
My lips read, "Dave, What the Fuck?"

Near the end, as the team walked toward him during a time out when they couldn't in bound the ball, he got in M'Vouika's face and asked "What did I just tell you?"
As M'Vouika remained silent, Chris again yelled "What did I just tell you?"

After the handshake, he looked over toward where the team files out and gave somebody some shit.

It's fun watching my idol evolve into a college basketball coach.

It would be very hard to believe that this team to look past ANY team, they are horrible. Have no expectations so it doesn't bother me so much. It will be nice to get Lovett, but still won't expect much of a difference. Lets be patient and hopefully they will grow together as the season progresses.

Agree that the team wasn't looking past Niagara to get to Syracuse. I'm sure that Mussini, Yakwe, Sima have zero idea of what a game against Syracuse means to St. John's fans, let alone looking past Niagara to get at them.

This is an interesting point you raise about the international players.

I am going to the Syracuse game on Sunday and will be in a suite filled with Syracuse fans, I am way into deep with the amount of pre game smack talking that I have done. Not sure how I will show face again if we are no competitive which is all I ask for most of the times:).
