New York Mets-2018
Rosario
McNeil
Cespedes
Conforto
One reliable right handed hitter with some power
Lagares or Nimmo
The return of TJ Rivera at his best or a major league third baseman
A major league catcher
A bullpen
Have to put Bruce at first. Let's give him some space since he had been playing with a bad hip. Need to replace Frazier.

What if Alfonso is ready?

Bought ridiculously expensive tickets on StubHub last night for my family for tonight. Just had to be there. Here's one reason why:

My son was 9 and knew little about baseball when I bought season tix in 2008. Qe both wore Wright #5 jerseys or t shirts to the games. A few months ago, my wife cleaned out my closet, but saved my Wright T shirt, which is literally in tatters. I'm glad she did. I may haul it out tonight, symbolic of all the battles David has fought to get back on the field one more time.

What a great player and person.

Good question, however Bruce has to play with his contract. If Afonso is ready after spring training then Bruce is our right fielder. Cespedes doesn't expect to be ready for opening day. Once he returns Bruce will be our first baseman. Alonso comes off the bench, especially against left handers.

Nice job by the Mets letting Olivia Wright, David’s 2 year old daughter, throw out the first pitch to him. I also like her glittery Mets uniform, I recommend that the Mets switch to them in 2019. But, typical Mets, rumor has it she now needs Tommy John surgery.

I really like your baseball insights. You're right about Bruce having to play with that contract.

A bit of a letdown in terms of 4 innings and 2 at bats. When he left the field for the final time, my son and son in law were welled up , and I couldn't chant anything or I would have cried. Fans started chanting "we love you david" or something like that when he went to the tv booth, and I couldn't join in for same reason.

Sad day. Yesterday he was just a kid who burst onto the scene and turned out to be as good as billed, but even better as a person.

There's got to be a place for him in the organization.

There's no crying in baseball. Just kidding Beast, nice sentiments.

I cried like a baby watching my favorite Met leave the field. You are 100 % right about finding a place for him in the organization. Let's put it this way - they better!

I did the same when Ed Charles announced his retirement after the '69 miracle. Of course I was 7. ;)
what on earth were they thinking with this hire ?
As a former diehard Mets fan, I've finally learned to let go. I just don't pay attention nearly as much anymore as they fizzle out every single year with tons of routine injuries to key players. As long as the Wilpons own the team they will treat it like a small market franchise. I'll still root for them, but I just don't have the patience for them anymore. One of the most predictable franchises in all of pro sports.

To be sure, it’s an unusual move, and I preferred Chaim Bloom.
At the same time, Van Wagenen brings hands-on experience in dealing with all MLB teams, is a strong-willed, confident, guy and would not have taken the job unless he got assurances from the dreaded Wilpons that he’d be able to spend on FAs to strengthen the team.
Plus, he advocates expanding the Mets’ woeful analytics department—which apparently, will be done.
So, while the jury is out on this guy in his maiden GM spot, things might turn out well.
We shall see.

Didn't you guys hear, the Mess were relegated to Triple A next year :silly:

An odd outside the box hire, but at least he played the game (unlike moneyball Sandy). Brodie went to Stanford on a baseball scholarship and played rightfield for them for a couple of years.

Also it is kind of cool that he is the son-in-law of Astronaut Neil Armstrong.

"One small step for the Wilpons, one giant leap for....................."

Ah ha, Ohio!
You do realize you’ve now removed the curse plaguing the Mets (not the Wilpons—that’d take an Act Of God!), and they’ll win the NL Pennant and meet the Yankees in the World Series?!!!?
Lol.
