New York Mets-2018

Wheeler finally looks elite. They look set at 2nd and short. If bruce can transition to first an outfield of conforto, cesoedes, nimmo isnt half bad.

Agreed. invest in high quality middle kik e relief - the cheap .oldest most overlooked commodity

Just have a bad feeling with Cespedes coming back healthy and giving us anything.. I was thinking of an OF of Conforto/Nimmo/Bruce with Alonso at first (Smith prob starts the year there). If we could ever pry away Realmuto from the Marlins. Its the one player position we don't have some money invested in. Were trying to rub pennies together to assemble a team and there's talk the Phils would go after both and Harper AND Machado... ah the life of a Mets fan SMH. Its nice to say you want to build a team around the draft but when you make picks like Cecchini and Smith in the 1st rounds...

Agree re Cespedes. Harper gosh.. I see him in pinstripes. Machado's would be great for the mets

I had two tickets in section 112 row 20 to the David Wright game but unloaded them when we fell out of it for a loss. They would be worth $400 + a ticket now. The trials of being a Met fan.

I like our core of Conforto, Nimmo, McNeil and Rosario. I am hoping Alonso can play next year as well. Its a shame we have so much money tied up in Bruce, Frazier and Cespedes. We need a very strong bat to compete in lieu of Cespedes who can't be counted on and I dont even think Realmuto would do it. Someone like Machado makes sense. We also need another starter as Vargas isn't a quality starter and Oswalt isn't either and there will always be injuries. I agree that relieve pitching is a huge need and possibly the easiest to address.

You’re not the guy who handles my investments, are you?!? Joking.
I agree Andrew. The Mets have a very good, young nucleus of players, but have some ‘dead wood’ and bad contracts.
Frazier is probably ‘okay’ for next year and I’m praying Bruce bat revives (has of late), so he’s traceable sometime next season.
We have 3 elite SPs and Matz is a solid #4, if he can hold up.
Maybe Justin Dunn and Franklyn Kilome are dark horses for the 5th slot in 2019.
I think Dominic Smith should platoon with Alonzo at 1b. Both guys have potential.
The dead wood is troubling though (Bruce, Cespedes, injury conundrum, and Vargas) and blocks a quick resolution.

Bruce and frazier are symptoms of management rarely looking for top shelf free agent talent and when they do it's been George foster, vanilla, or Cespedes. They always act like a mid market team instead of top of market

What is status of TJ Rivera? Before injury I remember a strong right handed third baseman contact hitter.

I like the kid as well. Probably will be trade bait, especially since "'hitless" Frazier has another year on his contract. Hopefully Plawecki is not around.

He's a good bench guy who can play a few positions. I hope he makes a full recovery. He isn't worth much except as a throw-in in a bigger trade.

Our offense has more deadwood than that freakiing hbo show. Fraziers contract cant end soon enough for me regardless if he is a great clubhouse guy

I agree but the Jay Bruce contract is a lot worse. We owe Frazier about 8.5 million for one year but Bruce 26 million for two years.

On a brighter note the team has been 30-25 since the All Star break. Unfortunately very few people are watching at this point.

Was there tonight. Wonderful game, energetic crowd, special night. DeGrom just put a cherry on top of his season, 8 shutout innings of 10k, 2 hit ball

Two good things happened this season, DeGrom is the rightful cy young winner, and the Phillies crashed and burned so bad that we will end up with nearly the same record as them

Kids went to school outside of Philly so I interacted with their fans on occasion. Even when I tried to be gracious, they were sometimes nasty SOBs. Don't mind one bit that they tanked.

Last night was one of those rare magical nights to be at the Stadium. Crowd was pulling for Jake from the very first pitch and he didn't disappoint. For once his teammates busted their ass and performed for him. Jeff McNeil made a couple of terrific plays, including the diving snare of a line drive sure base hit, Conforto came up big and so did Dominick Smith offensively - together they carried the load. After last night I can't even fathom how we can lose deGrom to free agency. Over his first five years (career 2.65 ERA) he has rightfully earned the Seaver mantra, The Franchise. Unlike Seaver though, deGrom is an incredibly likeable and humble guy, and is always smiling (at least when he isn't beating himself up after a mistake, of which he made hardly any this year)

You are a little older then me(meant with respect), but deGrom is quickly moving up my list of favorite Mets. I loved the excitement that Strawberry and Gooden brought to a moribund franchise but deGrom plays the game like he is a chess master and then he can smile when he wins.

Rosario
McNeil
Cespedes
Conforto
One reliable right handed hitter with some power
Lagares or Nimmo
The return of TJ Rivera at his best or a major league third baseman
A major league catcher
A bullpen

10 years ago today, Shea Stadium closed. It was a dump, but it was our dump. And it was not without its charm.

To quote Todd Pratt, when returning from every road trip:

Well, there she is boys. She’s not much to look at, but she’s all ours.

I was there that very last day. I had season tix then but the plan didn't cover sundays. We had to win to make the playoffs, and did not, and the team did a pretty poor job at closing out the stadium. The Yankees by comparison did a much nicer job.

LEt's hope the Mets give David Wright the sendoff he deserves. I'm not counting on it though
