New York Mets-2018

I grew up in Atlanta, so I'm probably the only Braves fan here. I really enjoyed the rivalry during the late 90s. The crazy John Rocker era haha. Unfortunately, ever since then the teams have never been competitive during the same year. I went to a game at Citi earlier this year vs the Braves, and it seemed the rivalry was back. Now it's looking unlikely, but I want to see the Mets return to form. I prefer the Mets rivalry to the others. Good luck to the Mets, aside from when they play the Braves.
Interesting that Nimmo met with batting coach, Roessler, on his off day. They discovered he was swinging underneath the ball. Well a few days earlier Keith Hernandez claimed that Nimmo was dropping his back shoulder and swinging underneath the ball. Is it me or do you think both Hernandez and DArling could take over as hitting and pitching coaches.?
I think that at this point in his life Keith wouldn't want to commit to the daily grind of February till October of coaching. I also think he is old school in every way, and would have a hard time tolerating behaviors and work ethic of today's players. I think he wold be a terrific coach and manager, except that he'd probably also be pretty damned cantankerous.

Favorite Hernandez story from eons ago, maybe 1984 or so. Darling was either a rookie or second year, and on the mound. He had shaken off the catcher for or 5 times in a row who was calling for breaking balls or sliders. Hernandez called time out, jogged to the mound, and said to Darling, "If you shake him off one more time, or throw a fastball, I'm coming back to the mound and will beat the shit out of you right here." Darling read Keith as serious and complied.

Hernandez taught that team how to win. Carter made them championship caliber. But it was Keith's team, Best fielding first basemen I've ever seen, and despite not having massive offensive numbers to me belongs in the HOF and by far is the best position player ever to play for the Mets.

The rivalry where the Braves won like 14 straight division titles?

In the post game interview last night Callaway came up with another doosie(sp) of a comment -"We are starting to come out of it." Say what? 16 runs scored in 104 innings. Got to believe Bautista won't be around much longer. Hopefully Alderson and the Wilpons will follow. Unfortunately I will be going to Chase Field on Sunday. I know say it, all my friends have, I'm a glutton for punishment.

This team has become completely irrelevant. Keep signing old washed up retreads. Yeah that'll do it!

I thought they would revive and make some kind of a 'run'.
There's still 'time', but it looks very bleak.
I was wrong.
It's impossible to field a consistently viable 'big market' team on the cheap, with a 'minor league' outlook.
The Mets ownership and F/O don't 'get it'.

The story I remember involved Jesse Orosco and Hernandez. It was the bottom of the 16th, game 6 of the NL championship series and Kevin Bass was up, with the winning runs on base. Orosco was gassed, and Hernandez told Orosco he would hurt him if he dared throw another fastball. He threw 6 or 7 sliders to Bass before striking him out on a 3-2 pitch.

Believe it or not Im a Braves fan also. Product of growing up in the early 90s when the Braves we're good and on TBS and the Yankees and Mets were bad so I wanted to root for a good team. 1999 was one of my fondest memories of baseball with the Mets rivalry. Too bad it didn't turn out well against the other NY team in the World Series.

:eek:hmy:Thank God I stayed yesterday to the end of our win. Was ready to leave after Familia gave up the third run. All 47, 907 fans were standing and cheering as Reyes came up with two outs. Fortunately Avila fielded the bunt which was clearly rolling foul. Unlike the D'back fans to boo him throughout the game. How does Lovullo allow him to lead off the bottom of the ninth trailing 5 to 3, especially since he is hitting .110. Hello, anyone home. BTW, the D'backs were 36 and 1 with a lead after the 8th inning..
Talk about struggling Bruce was horrible with three straight strikeouts. And this was after a few days rest. Since I have criticized Reyes in the past, to be fair, he made some nice plays at shortstops and did keep us alive in the ninth. Jose, Jose, Jose. Had less Met fans at the game yesterday compared to Thursday game.

 What a pathetic performance tonight against the Dodgers. Can last place be far behind? Couldn't score that 3rd run for deGROM to get him off the hook. Convinced Conforto is not a centerfielder, real bad jumps on fly balls. Should have been given an error after dropping the flyball in the seventh.Frazier has also disappointed defensively while his lack of offense isn't surprising, especially since he had a .217 average last year And to think we could have signed Moustaukas for the same 2 year $17 million contract. Goodbye Alderson!

The following is from Sandy’s introduction to Met fans back in 2010:
http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...d-as-gm-of-new-york-mets-2010oct29-story.html

The following quote is from our fearless GM during the introduction:

"As far as the (farm) system is concerned, generally right now I think it's probably middle of the pack," Alderson said. "In our situation, we should never be in the middle of the pack." You got that perfect. The 2018 Mets have a legitimate claim to being the worst team in major league baseball.

By Sandy’s own standards, it’s time to go. His stay a Citifield has been an unmitigated disaster. Bring back Omar or anyone else.

@AnthonyDiComo

BREAKING: Sandy Alderson is taking an immediate leave of absence from his Mets general manager duties to address his personal health. John Ricco, J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya will split the role in his absence.

Cancer has returned unfortunately.

Wishing the best for Alderson. He can’t be blamed for all of our problems. The Mets cheapness goes well beyond the players payroll. You can replace the GM but without upgrading the scouting, analytical and medical staff things won’t change. And that won’t change unless ownership changes which seems like a pipe dream at this point.

Wonder if he is still giving tours of the South Bronx and daring people to knock the chip off of his shoulder.

Better get your freak on while you can, there will only be 17 more of them. Party like it's 2035!

Bonilla was a Johnny fan, saw him and Bonds at the garden.
