New York Mets-2018

Just amazing the way the Mets have done a complete 180 back to a team that just finds ways to lose.
It’s a very long season and a very streaky game. Catching depth imploded, the pitching ruptured, and the offense sputtered.
Hopefully, a fresh wind will bring in some reinforcements and the Mets will launch a new and extended winning streak.
Look at the Yankees.
Let’s go Mets!
True, but does not alter the fact that the Mets looked like a contender for 2 weeks and the worst team in baseball for the next two.
No argument there, but maybe--aided by injuries--that typifies why it's a 'streaky game'?
You could have led that band on the Titanic as it was listing 45 degrees. :)

Lol Paultz!
Well, at one point, the Titanic was but ‘half-full’!

Pitiful offense. So Callaway was a pitching coach, so tell me why with two outs he used Ramos to pitch to one batter in the 7th inning, then brings in loser Robles to come in the 8th inning. Think about it this homer laden pitcher is the best we have in the farm system. Again, nice job Alderson on building our minor league system. We are certainly making the opposition's pitchers look good. Cincinnati is probably licking their chops. Down, down, down we go as the Braves and Phillies have passed us in the standings.

Multiple thoughts. Although many had soured on Harvey and it was hard not to, the whole story is sad. This wasn't Tim Leary, Paul Wilson, Bill Pulsipher; Harvey had been a great pitcher and while he appears to be an ass, injuries were what ruined him and that is sad. Secondly Callaway got this job because of the hope he could fix the pitchers and that has not happend. Without a vast improvement in the starters soon, players like Cabrera, FRazier and Bruce don't make sense for the future as the young Braves and Phillies look scary.
Just my opinion; Matt Harvey was never a great pitcher. He had great stuff and about as unprofessional an attitude as there could be. He was a legend in his own mind before he did anything substantial. He has one season of double figure wins. He has one complete game in his career. Yes he had injuries, no question, but IMO he was never going to be a great pitcher because of his immaturity and Montana sized ego which is why I thought the Mets should have traded him before the injuries. Good riddance
He did start the all-star game in 2013. I thought that early on he pitched with a lot of maturity. He seemed he could go deeper into games with low pitch counts because he threw strike, then revved up his fastball in later innnings.

Recalls the great line about Sparky Lyle of the Yankees. "He went from Cy Young to sayonara"

Well there is always Kentucky. :p

Amir Garettt warming up for anyone who wants to see him pitch.

More bonehead decisions by Callaway:
Why was Nido in tonight's lineup?
Why was he allowed to hit in the 7th inning?
Why was Reyes starting in place of Flores?
Why, in heaven's name, did Nimmo bat against Garrett with Lagaras and Mesoraco on the bench?
Why is loser Robles not in the minors?
Why is Lugo not in the starting rotation?

Jack, couldn't agree more with all your points. I would add that (so far) Callaway and Eiland seem to be getting a free pass here. Mets front office sold these guys as pitching gurus. Well, so far, not so much. Just think of all that has gone wrong with this staff:
1- Harvey is gone. They both were convinced he was "fixable". Well its May and he's gone. They have had no impact here.
2-Vargas has been a disaster. Eiland was his coach in KC and wholeheartedly endorsed his signing.
3- Matz and Wheeler are still a mess. They have had no impact here.
4- Robles is so awful, 5 HR's in 10 innings. He should be cut. They have had no impact here.
5- Why exactly is Lugo in the 'pen.
6- Why do we still only have one LHP (Blevins) in our bullpen? Easy move Vargas to pen, Lugo to rotation. They are stuck with Vargas but they could try and get him some work there. After last night's game they said he will continue to start. Why?
I could go on but you get my point.
Is the catcher they got for Harvey better than the crap we have now ?
Given that MJM or I might be a better option yes. MJ, I think this guy had one good year and then got beat up by injuries. He is a good defensive catcher with some pop. Given that he has some ML pedigree I think he is worth a try and is better offensively than both scrubs they were putting on the field the last three weeks. I wouldn't get carried away though, as always, Mets don't shop from the top shelf.

I think in general, baseball is the toughest sport for a manager to have a real impact. It's been said that even a great manager (Whitey Herzog, Tony LaRussa, etc.) will only influence the outcome of games to the tune of about 5 additional wins in a season.

Baseball is also a sport where hindsight is always 20-20. Mickey was a genius and a great hire after an 11-1 start, incompetent after frittering it all away.

All of your analysis looks good after the fact, but if a couple of pitchers get hot besides deGrom and Synder, the bats come alive (still a team reliant on bombs), the team can rip off a pretty good streak again.

Beast, It is the Mets who sold the impact of the Manager. They even put him in a commercial. Of course, any "analysis" is after the fact as you say. What else is there? Yes, we talk about results.
Personally, I harped on many of the Mets moves as they were made but like every fan one has there own opinion. Sure they can put together a streak. I never said they couldn't. Not sure how you got there from what I wrote. In fact, I hope and pray they do. I just don't like what we are seeing. Pitching was suppose to be the strong suite of this team and right now it is a weakness. Team ERA is up to 4.30/WHIP 1.30. That is too many baserunners and two many runs. As always, the team is reliant on HR hitters. Sandy did that, not me.

Mets just batted out of order. Cabrera doubled and Reds Manager pointed it out and Cabrera was ruled OUT. Mickey Callaway is having a helluva a week. Keith Hernandez remarked "I haven't seen that in years"....

BTW I coach a team of 8-10 year old kids. We have 16 kids that have to play. I have to swap out 7 kids in the 4th inning. We have never batted out of order.
Pathetic

I was supposed to be at my client this week in Cincy.. good thing I didn't go. I usually get sick from the amount of coney dogs I consume. This team would have made me far sicker.

Thank you. You just gave me the laugh of the day! I remember fumbling around pieces of paper while trying to get Joe or Bob to hit 8th and play RF all while we too never batted out of order.
Today's error is completely unacceptable for a ML team. He had 12 hours to create a line-up, put on a card and copy it to the dugout wall. He didn't do his job. You blow it mid-game on a double switch, that is one thing. Not giving the correct line-up to the Ump. Just embarrassing. Then lose the game by one run....
