New Mexico (MSG), Sun., Nov. 17, 12 Noon, FS-1

Good win for the good guys.

Thr ball always seems extra slippery to our guys for he 1st 5 mnutes or so. Wonder why that is.

And the refs let them play a bit in the 1st half. I hate the tight officiating in the ACC and Big Ten, but maybe the BE should tighten it up a little to acclimate us to power 5 6OOC play. We always seem to get into foul trouble when we play away from home. Just a thought.

Again good decisive win.

It was a good win at MSG against a pretty good New Mexico team . They had beaten UCLA earlier in the season .

Wilcher getting 14 minutes is somewhat puzzling . Pitino mentioned he didn’t start due to Matchups . Ok, Rick . If you say so.

For a good portion of the game , Richmond did not look like the Million Dollar Man with a high amount of turnovers that let NM make a little run .
Rick might have sat him but , didn’t . I’m sure Wilcher felt that way too . A unhappy Sim isn’t a good thing , if we are looking for him to be a big contributor this year and next .

Richmond did contribute down the stretch but, he’s not a good long range shooter , which we and NBA scouts know . His handle was sloppy too yesterday .
Less this be a bash session on him , equity dictates his positive contributions on the game . Of which there were several . He’s a skilled passer and team player , without a doubt .
We will need all of his skills as the competition heats up with Baylor .

Very strong 8 though. Vince can give 6-8 minutes now. Ayo can give similar. Nobody had more than 3 fouls.

Glover and/or Lefty should able to contribute in January.
Wilcher, Dunlap, Prey and Vince should all get minutes. Agree that Ayo can be used as a defensive spark plug if needed in a suitable situation. And agree that Liotopoulos and Glover may be able to add a few minutes if needed somewhere down the road.

But I do expect more from Vince than most - mobile 7 footers do not grow on trees and I'd be surprised if Pitino does not get him minutes in some situations.

I don't think he's that mobile. He looks really clumsy and he's always a step slow. He also gets so low in his defensive stance that any good wing player can pull up and hit an uncontested shot in his face without any worry of getting blocked.

Compared to Zuby, he's Curtis Johnson. His value will be rebounding and putbacks.

Rim to Rim, he’s mobile. In traffic not so much.

Sim was having a very rough day on defense in the second half. I called it out in the game thread and Pitino quickly went to Smith. As Marillac pointed out New Mexico players were big and strong and it just wasn't Sims day. And obviously it worked out with a key win where all 5 starters played very well and stayed out of foul trouble.

Fantastic all around game from RJ and I agree with all of the praise for his defense on Dent, as well. It reminded me of when Jayden Epps was going off against us at the Garden last year and the game was too close for comfort. We put RJ on him and Epps then missed his last four shots and Luis got a big steal from him and slammed it home. Now that he is healthy and in basketball shape since he can practice full-time, sky is the limit.

I'll give him that. He's also not completely incompetent in the half court, but he's a step slow on everything and he doesn't have the shot blocking ability to make up for it...which is crazy at 7'1. He takes the longest strides I've ever seen and his angles aren't good.

Getting your shot blocked by Vince is like getting attacked by an American Crocodile....you basically have to jump into them. Compare that to the 7'2 Arkansas kid who is taking great angles to deny drivers at the rim, and it's a big difference.

Definitely not longer.
Both mid-height players with long arms. 6'6"-6'7"

Length includes wingspan. https://www.instagram.com/league.him/reel/CxHB6i1sxyo/

Figgy: https://insider.espn.com/college-sp...ing/player/evaluation/_/id/206895/lj-figueroa

Figueroa is a lanky wing with a seven-foot wingspan, big hands and broad shoulders that should fill out nicely in the coming years. He utilizes his length extremely well in his floor game. He covers the court and goes through the lane with long strides

Luis: Standing 6-foot-7 with a near 7-foot-5 wingspan and a sturdy 235-pound frame, he offers intriguing physical tools.
